I've sold my G1, GF3 and G3 just got the G5 in addition to my Olympus bodies. Decided to cut back a bit.

Not really been out much of late with the camera :(
 
I've been out quite a bit with mine but the weather and light has been (as can be seen...) quite poor. I'd have liked just a few minutes of blue sky and sun :D My girlfriend arrives on Thursday so that'll be the end of my freedom and days out with my camera for a while :D

I've not been out with the camera much at all lately as by the time I get home from work its too dark and cold! I did manage to knock off early today though and took the dog for a nice long walk. Conveniently the Sigma 19mm arrived today as well! :D
Only managed to get a few test shots as it was a dull afternoon, but I love the feel of the lens and its a nice size on my G2 to have as a walk around lens so I expect it will get some good usage over Christmas.

These first two snaps were taken with the G2 and 19mm today. I'm pretty happy with them considering how dull it was and that puppy wouldn't stay still for more than 5 seconds. No editing done on these yet, just a bit of cropping.

Just added a GF3 to my camera bag to compliment the G2. It's a lovely little handbag camera when paired with the Sigma 19mm. :)
 
The sigma lenses seem to be getting good reviews from professionals and owners. I wonder why they are so cheap?! I guess there's nothing complex about them, just nicely made sharp lenses?

I am tempted to get the 30mm for my wife to compliment her 14mm.. that way I won't need to lend her my 20 or 45!
 
Found a GF3 for cheap and I mean very cheap! Do you think its worth the buy? I am looking for a small alternative for my SLR but would like one which is almost as good but actually portable, i.e. can stick in my pocket or keep it in the car glovebox when out and about as opposed to my SLR which needs a big bag and is pretty conspicuous. Also, just with the normal lens or also the prime? Im a big fan of primes because I love bokeh :D Is it good on this?
Also, found a G3 too which im considering, almost double the price but it looks quite good, is it much smaller than an SLR though/is it as portable as the GF3? I dont mind it being a bit bigger cus I understand most CSCs dont fit in a pocket anyway but as I say, just something light to slip into a bag or glovebox is what im after; the 14-42mm lens for the G3 looks huge.

It depends how cheap. I got my GF3 with the 14mm pancake lens new a while ago for £200 which I think is stonking good value. It's tiny - comparable with my LX5 compact - and will fit in a pocket. I can carry it in my hand on a wrist strap and almost forget it's there. It won't give the best image quality compared to newer CSC designs (especially at 800+ ISO) but it gives me better results than my 35mm film SLR gear ever did (a controversial statement but I speak from 20 years of experience and spending loads of money).

In terms of size, you won't get much smaller for the same performance. I use it with either the 14mm or 20 mm pancakes and am very happy. The G3 has better performance but is a lot bigger - check out camersize.com for some comparisons.

Actually this 30mm seems rather complex : loose internal elements which suspend themselves with tiny goblins (or electromagnets) when powered up to give very fast focus.
More complex than the Olympus 17mmF2.8 anyway.
 
I have managed to get a 25mm f1.4 from the F/S section and a used G3 turned up this morning so I now have one of my all time fave cameras back (had to sell last one as my PC blew up!) and all time fave lenses too!

GF3 is a lot smaller than the G3. I have both but the G3 + a pancake lens (20mm) only fits in my big winter down jacket pocket, the GF3 fits in almost any of my jacket pockets (but it's still obvious that it's there). I much prefer the G3 as I like using a viewfinder + it's a lot better at higher iso's and the swivel screen is useful sometimes too (or can be folded in against the body when using the evf) plus the rear thumb wheel is nice to have.

G3 shouldn't be double the price though - I got mine body only for £200 after cashback from Wilkinson cameras a few weeks ago and I got the GF3 + 14mm lens + Lightroom 3 for £200 after cashback back in around March/April I think it was. At the moment the GF3 + 14-42 and G3 + 14-42 seem to work out at around the same price given that there is cashback on the G3 and not on the GF3. Might be some bargains in the January sales though or the amazon boxing day lighting deals thing?

I use my G3 with just the 20mm - only ever had one other lens on it briefly (45-200 to take some squirrel pics but never actually used it due to lack of squirrels) :) So every photo I have taken with my G3 is with the 20mm and 90% of the photos with my GF3 are too.

I do have another camera with a 50mm lens on it though for when I need/ want that focal length - I like the flexibility of 2 or 3 primes (14,20,45 on m43) but if I could choose one lens it would be the 20mm as it's the most versatile but also nice and compact.
 
At the moment I'd have to say its the Sigma 19mm for me, but I've not actually tried a lot of lenses. I also have the 14-45 and 45-200 in my kit bag, and have had the 14mm previously.
 
Maybe not everyday lens, but for price and performance I have to say the Olympus 45mm f/1.8 is an amazing lens
 
I think if you want a 14mm, 20mm and 35mm lens combo, the 12-35 makes more fiscal sense. I'm not really keen on primes so this lens really makes sense for me, at least now that I have paid for it.

It is between the 14-45 and 45-200 in size but feels right on the GX1.
 
I'm struggling a little - the 20mm is a perfect patrner for the GX1 as it was for the GF1 before it.

But it is not as quick at focusing as newer lenses and is also a little limiting being a prime.

The only other lens that maintains the size benefit whilst being a zoom is the 14-42 X power zoom lens - but this lens doesn't get amazing reviews - there are some soft copies floating around and it is slower at f3.5-5.6.

This is why I was looking at the RX100 - I guess my 'system/interchangeable lens' camera days are rapidly coming to an end - but to find something that has a fast zoom, decent ISO, quick AF and is pocketable is a little tough.

If I had to have just one lens, I'd sell it and buy a Sony RX100 :)
 
I always get plenty Amazon gift vouchers so im going be very tempted get the RX100 at some point today as i definitely plan on buying one myself..
I think i will list my GX1 and 20mm which is a great camera too cover most the RX100 cost and then stick that and just Canon gear.

Don't know if i'll eBay rest of my m43 stuff like ive done with the OMD and 12-35mm as i'll get more buyer interest yet more chance of a dodgy buyer and fees :thinking:
 
Gave my sister her G2 today and I'm very pleased to say she loved it. First thing she did was pinch my 19mm lens though. I know its better than the bog standard kit lens, but I'm not sure it's supposed to work like that!! Lol!
 
My missus got me a m4/3 to OM adapter for christmas so I gave it a bit of a go last night... The following was taken on my G3 with a Zuiko 50mm f/1.8 and an extension tube. The spider was about half an inch long so I reckon I've probably got a full 1:1 reproduction here (or thereabouts)!

With a bit of practice, I think this could end up being my macro set-up in future! :)

The GX1 and 20mm f/1.7 is a cracking combination. Love mine to bits. Have never found the focus speed to be a significant issue - 'a bad workman blames his tools' is an idiom that springs to mind on occasion when people begin discussing focus speed. You can spend a lot more - the Panny/Leica 25mm f/1.4 is a cracking lens as is the 14-35mm f/2.8 - but they both cost significantly more and are less 'jacketable'.
 
Has anyone given in and bought the Olympus 15mm f/8 body cap yet? Gave into post-Christmas GAS yesterday and clicked on the button that said 'I really NEED this NOW'. Arrives tomorrow. Would be interested to hear what people think of it. Charging my GF1 batteries in anticipation.
 
Interested to see how you get on with the Olympus 15mm f/8 body cap, could be useful for some discrete shots.
 
I thought about it when it first came out, but couldn't find a reputable seller that had it. Where've you ordered it from Adrian?

Hi Mandoo, I have just had a look at SRS (Watford) web site on there for £65. I'm up for one, fancy the simplicity and street photography will be so easy.
