I've just had a play with my kit, and the 20mm doesn't focus with the G2 (as expected), or the GF2 (which I hadn't tried the 20 on).clicktor said:I got my new G2 out for a play yesterday and immediately noticed that when I put my 20mm f/1.7 on to it it won't do continuous auto focus (AFC). If I put it into that mode the camera will say not supported and to put into AFS mode instead. I then googled and was shocked to find that the 20mm is "so slow to auto focus that it won't do continuous AF on anything". Wow. £280 for this lens starts to now look even more concerning. I feel like I wasted my money on this lens to be honest.
I can't believe I have never seen anyone mention this. This lens only ever gets praise. Are there any other lenses that will not do AFC that I should be aware about? Is it really that slow so as not to be able to do this function? When I focus with it, it seems ok.
One of the main reasons I jumped onto m43rds was the 20mm prime but I'm sort of a bit miffed I never spotted this before. The extra speed benefit of the lens you can't even use for any moving focus shots as it doesn't support it. I've never heard of a lens not doing this.
I would assume the 25mm does do AFC, but for £500 I'd expect that.
Ah! I see!!!
In your original post I thought that by "menu" you meant the menus you see on the screen but I see now that you mean the modes accessed via the mode dial like Manual, Aperture priority and Shutter Priority etc...? Yes?
If that's the case as you are (like me) using a manual lens you can't use the modes which need to control the lens, like shutter priority. You will be able to use Aperture priority or Manual.
Personally I use Aperture priority most of the time with auto ISO set. I find that this works very well especially with the on screen histogram. I use Manual mode when I need the additional control.
I *think* there are two ways to set the 'without lens' option, one is in the custom menu, the other in the general menu under MY, which should allow you to use the manual modes, once set there you should be ok.

Why so many bodies?
Does that mean it doesnt focus at all with the G2 or only with a certain setting?
From what's been said, the 20mm won't AF-C on most (if not all) m4/3rds bodies.

Anyone with the 45mm. Can you comment on the close focus ability?
Am going to keep my current D3100, 18-55mm & 35mm 1.8 prime just in case I ever really need an optical finder
Looking forward to some M43 goodness shortly![]()
I would say the specs are about right as the quoted 0.5m, this is to the focal plane not the front of the lens. So around 43cm from the front glass. It is defo not a macro lens as max repro is only 0.11x!
Anyone with the 45mm. Can you comment on the close focus ability?
Picked up my new G2 from Tesco today!! £189 with a voucher!!!!!!!! Awesome price.
Any pointers for using the camera people? Any hints and tips?
Make sure you fully despose the lens capometer
I don't quite get what you mean, could you explain a bit more.
