"Panasonic G series" Owners Thread

Liked the last pic of the Lone Cyclist

Liked to have been there trying my luck with my G3 + 100-300mm.

I love cycle racing, used to be my sport when I was young and fit of course.

Think I have certainly learnt something from gkaskew, now I just have to put it into practice !

I know the feeling Dave. They make them hills steeper every year.:'(

When I think back when I was a 20 year old I rode from Dagenham (east of London) to Edinburgh and back all on a weeks holiday from work, when I was unpacking here I found my Youth Hostel card stamped with the hostels stayed in.
Unfortunately did not have a camera with me, well a Brownie Box was just too big to carry.
For my 21st birthday my parents bought me an Agfa Silette 35mm camera, that was the start of my camera days. Now just can't stop spending money changing cameras!
Ah well can't take it with me !!!!

Anyway it's fun spending it.

Samyang 7.5mm Fisheye review is up at Lenstip, sounds like a peach of a lens. A good job really, as mine arrives on Wednesday.

Two nice emails today. First one to say I have been short-listed in the final of the Practical Photography Boot camp course, and the second one with my Panasonic 5 year guarantee. Now at least I know Panasonic didn't lose my application.

Well done Barbara, Lightroom next:thumbs:

Well done, I got my guarantee by email today as well :)

The little Samyang Fisheye arrived today, lovely piece of kit and feels very well put together. Will go out and take some photos at the weekend but early impressions are very positive...

Interesting, look forward to the pics. How much and where from?

Fisheye looks cool, I have a Samyang one for my Canon and I really like it.

Saw a GF3 in the flesh for the first time today, by god it's tiny! Far too small. It's good for me though, because at the moment I can easily resist upgrading - if they bring out something like the GF1 in terms of controls, but a bit smaller and with a better sensor, I might find it hard to resist.

I've seen this being advertised and I'm keen to see some pixs too. It's manual focus isn't it?

Yes manual focus, I'm generally not a fan of MF but from a quick play this afternoon it seems to be a non issue, it's very hard not to have everything in focus!

Interesting comment as I'm seriously considering changing my GF1 for a GF3, I realise that's almost heresy for many people but I tend to grab quick shots with the GF1 and the size is a constant issue as it barely fits in a pocket. It's difficult to tell how much smaller it actually is but it seems fairly cheap already.

On a different note I took the GH2 and 100-300mm to the Leuchars airshow at the weekend and pleasantly surprised by the results as I was just snapping away without paying much attention to the pictures or settings as I didn't want to miss any of the airshow. The 600mm effective reach came in extremely handy to say the least and the bonus with it being micro 4/3 is the small size, I hadn't planned to go to Leuchars but had taken the 100-300mm anyway on a trip to Edinburgh as it doesn't take up much space.

Hurrah - my copy of Lightroom arrived this morning. Yesterday at long last I managed to get a real person on the end of the Panasonic line. They said they were experiencing problems but mine was in the pipeline and should be with me in the next 14 days! Total of 51 days.

I managed to persuade the girl to see if they could find a copy and sent it out to me, she checked and said they had 1 left and so she would send it straight out to me. It arrived this morning by recorded delivery.

What I did David was install the trial version from the adobe site as Glen suggested. I was already using Lightroom 1 so had a reasonable idea how it worked. It's quite tricky to figure at first but when you get into the logic of it it's easy. You'll soon master it.
I'm quite impressed with L3 as I find it much easier to use than L1. You can do a lot more in it than with L1 so that you don't need to use Photoshop nearly as much. The noise reduction in it is very good and means that you can use much higher ISO and still get a decent picture.
It's definitely worth waiting for and the only problem that I had was I was worried that my 30 day trial would run out before my copy from Panasonic arrived. It's easy to upgrade when the copy arrives you just have to put the serial number in.
You'll enjoy using it David and if you need any help just ask.

Hi

Mine arrived in the week after a very very long wait, they sent it to wrong address, luckily the guy down the road brought it up.
Address was wrong on email warranty, so will need to change it.

I'm glad to hear you got it OK. I bet you were glad to see the guy down the road.

Hi

Yep pretty lucky, had it sent to Parents house, as post more reliable.
It helped that years ago we used to live at that house, the numbers reversed, so he maybe knew the name.
Just about to load Lightroom now.
It was my logic in buying the camera, cheap way to get lightroom, if I didnt like G3, sell camera and I've got Lightroom cheap. I'm still not convinced on the camera, its a bit too bulky for a point and shoot, so I may as well take my DSLR, but cant fault the photos its taken, its exposures are spot on everytime.

Thanks

JOhn

Thanks Barbara I probably will need help with my old brain trying to sort out Lightroom 3.........its only just managing Picassa 3 ;)

...the last Cruise Liner into Invergordon this year. Roll next year !

This was taken with my new G3 and 14-45 lens

You are blessed with ideal topics to try out the G3 on, and your images are superb :)

i am indeed :)

is there much of a difference between the default and dynamic B&W? most of those were edited in LR from the RAW files.

I preferred the look of Dynamic B&W, plus I think you can modify the settings of Dynamic B&W in camera .
I shot jpg & raw so if I didn't like the in-camera jpg processing I could break the raw file :-)
images either shot in B&W or converted look brilliant from the GF1.

If it hasn't been mentioned yet, an update for ACR (6.5.6 I think) is now available in Beta release, containing support for the G3 & GF3 RAW files.

is that difficult to do?, never done mine:help::bonk:

No it's really easy David. There are full instructions on the Panasonic Lumix website. http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/download/fts/index.html You must make sure that your battery is fully charged before doing it, that you have installed the latest firmware for your camera and the lens you want to update is attached.
You just download the file to your computer, Double click it to extract it, then copy the extracted lin file into the root directory of your camera SD card. Insert the SD card back into your camera, switch the power on and then follow the on screen instructions on your camera monitor.
