"Panasonic G series" Owners Thread

Just bought G3, posted the form off today for the Light room.

David,

How does the G3 compare to the G1?

I've been thinking of getting a G3 but it would only make sense if I'd see an improvement in RAW files. I think I'm off to Kazakhstan again soon so might buy a G3 to take if there's an improvement in higher ISO RAW.

Don't understand RAW never used it

The G3 is smaller, it only arrived 5.30pm yesterday so just had a little time to play with it, certainly lighter in weight, what I have seen so far I like it !

More news pehaps after the weekend when I hope to play more with it.

Saturday AM Update: Love the small basic manual, but better still it is all + on a provided disk, so I have been sitting at the pc and reading instructions with camera in my hand, so much easier than trying to balance the instruction manual and read it and work the camera.
Off out later to try it all out, bet I've forgotten more than half of it !! .....watch this space for results or no results !!.......so far looks and feels a great camera.

G3 delivered on 13/7. Sent the forms in after a few days.

5 year gtee was delivered in about 10 days and LR3 received second week of August.

Bought GH2 17 July, form sent approx 9 August, heard or received nothing yet.

I was the same so I rang Panasonic who said that it can take up to 40 days,

Yes, cashbacks can take ages. I remember the Canon ones took a couple of months. Patience is a virtue! Forget about it then it pops through the door like a nice surprise!!

Yes I remember my Panasonic GF1 cashback took a long while to come, but I am so impatient to get my new version of Lightroom. Must think about improving my virtues.:D

Why not just download the trial version and use that until you get the disk, then just enter the code to validate the trial version, no need to wait!

Anyone any experience with one of the Wireless remotes that are available for GH2 and can recommend a product that works ?

Julian

Lovely pics Fidsey, my G3 arrived on Friday so getting to grips with it , so far I like it, wondering whether to keep my 14-45mm lens or use the 14-42mm supplied with the camera.

Never liked touch screens but this one is easy to use, and can be switched off , so getting used to using it.

I will have to try my 20mm pancake on it and see the results from that.

Be taking some pics of Cruise liner leaving Invergordon tomorrow so will post some if they are good !! if not it will be back to the drawing board.

Bought my G3 from Amazon so got the £30 have used that towards a spare battery, that is in the post . Now waiting for my Lightroom3, ah well something else to learn

I've tried my third party battery which I had in my G1 in my G2 with latest firmware and it works fine. Battery level indicator works fine too.

Uh oh. That's interesting to know. Thanks.

I could be tempted to risk one for my G2 then.

I am using a 3rd party battery in G2 that I bought for GF1 with no problems too.

Has anyone received their free 5yr guarantee that gave with Lightroom 3 Panasonic offer yet. I keep reading on the net that the 5yr guarantee was emailed to them within a few days, separately from their copy of Lightroom which they say may take up to 40 days. As I haven't heard from them yet I am worried whether they haven't received my claim form.

I am about to submit mine after my G3 purchase :) so will time how long it takes ;)

:'( I am now GF1-less :'(

Hopefully Mr Thorton will enjoy it and use it more than i did.

Will still look in on this thread as there are some amazing pics and this thread has such laid back people.

I received my email copy after about 16 days,

Just done that now. I think the new version is pretty good. Just hope the serial number arrives now and doesn't get lost!

The G1 came to London, so I had a go at some street photography. Really enjoyed it and stuck with just my 14-45 lens which is a lot more scary then hiding behind the 45-200!!!

I planned to go out with my new G3 today but constant heavy rain showers this afternoon put me off, ahh well there's always another day.

Nice pics Sarah, by the way I'm using my old 14-45mm on my G3, cracking lens.

How come we are not a sticky when our forum has a lot more posts than others - sidelined again!!!!

I reckon we have got the record. This was a resurrected thread from the first one that was closed. How about us trying for the Guinness Book of Records.:D

]I took these with the G3 - as test shots to see what it could do, and I think it beat my 7D for actually capturing the sky and clouds - usually the 7D over exposes them !

My 100-300 arrived today but unfortunately too late in the day to give it a proper try... hopefully will give it a go in the next few days.

Will be interested to hear how you get on with it, I had never seen one when I ordered mine but was very happy with the size and build quality.

I'm trying some more motorsport with mine this weekend.

I can't really say why but comments on other parts of the forum about not being able to get shallow DoF from MFT and every other format giving better IQ annoy me :D

I wonder if anyone would know which little very low light test shot was taken with MFT, APS-C or FF without checking the info.

They were all taken with the kit lens ( 14-42mm) which came with the G3. I am pleasantly surprised by it's sharpness.

I've been using my old 14-45mm lens and and the 14-42mm, can't see any difference really, both good lenses

Must give give the big boy 100-300mm a try when the weather brightens up.

Im really pleased with the results so far overall. The indoor shots take a bit more setting up - unless its just me ! I bought the 45-200 as well but havent had an ideal moment to give that a go either. may be off to Donington on Sunday for the British Superbikes so that will be a good opportunity :)
Will be interesting to see what the 300mm is like at the long end as well eh?

Sample of our appalling weather on Monday using the 14-45mm for this pic

Superb image, with excellent sharpness. Where was it taken ( if you dont mind my asking) !

That's a cracking photo, Dave. Lovely to see you out and about.

I too use both the 14-42 & 14-45 lenses on both my G1 & Gf1 bodies & can't see any difference between them, The 14-42 always get's slagged of by people who have never compared the two lenes together, Reasons given are the plastic mount & the lack of Ois switch, No big deal, the 14-42 sits as tight on the body as the 14-45 does & i've never lost any sleep about the switch not being there.

Nice to be out and about Janice, now living up here in the Highlands and loving it, except the weather could be better.
