Got my freebies from Panasonic today for buying my G2, Adobe Photoshop and Premier Elements 9 and a £35 voucher for Going Digital. Has anybody used their vouchers yet and what for?

Allan

I have not received my cheque from the GF1 promo last summer. Received the extended guarantee ages ago though. Does anyone have a number to contact panasonic?

Many thanks

You could try Panasonic Customer Comms Centre on 0844 844 3852. Ifd its not them, they should point you in the right direction. Open 9-5:30
My cheque came after about 4 weeks.

You should have been offered the gift pack leaflet. It is a promotion from Panasonic as here.... * Free Photography Gift Pack worth £150* / €195* when you purchase a LUMIX G2, G10 OR GF1 digital camera between the 8th of October 2010 and the 31st of January 2011. Terms and conditions apply. Please click here for full instructions.*

You are still eligible for the offer so i should get to a proper camera shop that sells G series cameras and pick up an offer leaflet. Fill in the details and send it off. You dont need anything from Currys, just the receipt.

If you havent opened your PSE9 you could get a refund otherwise you get a spare copy that you could sell.

You don't need to go to the shops, you can download the form by clicking Here and printing it off, but you better not hang about or you will miss it, Takes about 6 weeks to arrive.

I sent my form off yesterday so I'll update when it gets here. They will have Elements 10 out by the time it arrives! :whistling:

Well, thats just technology overtaking me, I didnt even think it would be available online!
I sent mine in on 20th December and the goodies came on 24th Jan. Not bad, 5 weeks and over Christmas too.
Now, I need a bit of peace and quiet, got a wireless sd card to get my head around!

Thanks for the replys. I'm not sure if it is compatible with the GF1:shrug:

It was more aimed at AndyWest than you really :P
;)

And i totally agree with your earlier comment. If only we had some decent weather!!

I'm going to clear out the garage and make a small studio for indoor close up shots, flowers 'n' stuff. Need to sell my mini 1st. That should sort poor weather shooting! :D

I believe the firmware hacking software developed for the GH1 can also be used to alter the GF1 firmware for 3rd party battery compatibility?

I hacked my GH1 before I could est it with my cheapy cheap ebay battery. I got a 1300mAH one, was the cheapest UK one, an dworks fine, though the ad does imply that it's a genuine battery, it definitely is not. The box claims 100% extra capacity over OEM too!

Took delivery of a nice low mileage 45-200 today, so it's not sharp at 200mm eh? My backside it's not!

Shot in very non-optimal conditions, ISO 3200 in the shade. Plenty sharp enough for me, although as a fast bird lens it's not going to win any awards!

Nice tit! It shows how good the GH1 is at high iso too. Not sure the GF1 or G1/2 would be that clear. I'll have to take a few shots with my 45-200 and compare them. So far, I am pretty pleased with it, it seems sharper at 200mm than my Nikon 18-200 was but it's had little use because of the rotten weather we have had lately. It's raining and misty here now and quite dull. Not a camera day!

That does look good. None of the NR packages I've used produce anything but a horrible result.

I'd be very happy if I could produce a result that looked anything like that.

If only my PC could run Lightroom!

Still, just tried it in PSP and it ame out fairly similar, but certainly wouldn't stand up to a detailed inspection.

What's PSP?

What do you guys think is a good NR package?

At the mo I use Rawshooter Essentials, CS2, Silkipix, Neat Image and the simply awful Canon DPP but to be honest none of them give me results I'm happy with for any of my cameras.

I've only really used the one in Lightroom and Imagenomic Noiseware - both good but the function in LR3 is superb imo - very fast and powerful.

Alan I think a smallish print of the cleaned up version would look pretty good probably.

Paint Shop Pro, version X2 to be precise, which is not the most recent.

Does everything I need it to, with less hassle than Photoshop.

I use Silkypix for RAw conversions - I have the camera Noise reduction and sharpness set to 0, then in Silkypix for up to ISO 1600 all that's necessary is to play with the Noise false colour control (usually I set it to max), then noise filter is first port of call for removing noise, if that reaches max and I'm not satisfied then I start upping the Noise level slider a bit. I never ouch the noise reduction slider, it just smooths the whole image and not very well. If I really need any further noise reduction (IE ISO 3200) then it's off to PSP for eithe rselective treatment or a global noise rduction which is OK, but not as good as the lightroom example above.

I'm happy to use ISO 1600 for even very large prints, but I wouldn't want to use 3200 for anything serious.

Thanks, I'll digest what you said and have another go :)

WooHoo my remote has turned up from the states today:thumbs: £3.98 with postage. I ordered it on the 8th so did take a few weeks but at the price i really should not be complaining.

Nice picture Alan. How close were you to the bird? Was the picture cropped or full frame. I'm not sure how close I would need to get in to get this. My attempts at the black cap were a complete failure today.

Hmmm.

When playing with Silkipix I noticed that a high noise shot looks very nice until it's saved as a JPEG and then when I view it it looks horrible.

I can't see anything in development settings that could account for this and at the moment I just don't know why an image should look nice in Silkipix but horrible when I exit and view the developed image as a JPEG.

Has anyone else seen anything like this?

This was taken in the dark at ISO 1600, the first picture is a print screen in Silkipix and looks ok, the second is the developed JPEG and it's all blotchy and horrible.

Looks like the upped contrast has just made the noise more obvious to me?

How is the GH2 versus the G1 for ISO performance? My G1 + 20mm is weapon of choice for night street shooting, ISO 1600 is ok for B&W 'grainy' conversions, but would be nice to shoot 1600 that would clean up in LR3.

I used Silkypix for all of about 30 seconds. Images always looked "noisy" regardless.
LightRoom is a lot better, though there is the "cost" of it.

The settings for me at ISO 1600 would be Noise level Max, Noise cancel max and False colour control max. Turn the Noise reduction right off, it just makes a mess of things.

I always judge noise viewing a detailed section of th image at 100% so I can judge the tradeoff between noise reduction and detail.

All with a GH1 though which is good for noise up to 1600, if you're on a G1 or GF1 I'd expect that Silkypix won't be able to cope with the noise at 1600, like it can't at 3200 on the GH.

Taken on a GH1 with the Lumix 45-200mm @200mm f5.6 ISO 3200, birdy was maybe bit over a metre away outside the lounge window.

Performs just as well over distance too, altough you won't catch a bird in flight with it!

Thanks Alan. I'm just wondering whether I would be able to get a shot actually through the window glass, if I push the lens right up to the window. Unfortunately my window opens the wrong side for the bird table.

Thanks for the input.

At the mo I have no idea why developed JPEG's look so much worse than what I see on screen in Silkipix. I'm baffled.

I was out with my Panasonic G1/45-200mm the other day, this is a copy of a picture I took at 180mm:

I'm happy with the detail. However, I was thinking, I needed to take a few, this was the best of the bunch. Is the 'soft' problem reported by 200mm owners caused by the fact that the lens is actually shooting at 400mm (x2)? One wold not normally shoot hand held at that length, even with VR engaged, I certainly would think twice . . . the penny only dropped yesterday, I have put an old mono-pod in the car boot as a permanency.

Certainly, a GF1 would stand little chance of a sharp picture unless on a 'pod' of some sort . . .

The lens is 200mm and behaves like a 200mm. It just has the same field of view as a 400mm on a 35mm camera. The reason it's soft at the long end is because 1) No zoom lens is as good as a prime 2) it's been compromised to make it cheap and compact.

And given it's price and performance I'd say it's a very good lens, and that is an excellent shot you've oulled off there.

Took mine out yesterday up Parys mountain, and it performed very well indeed given the strong blustery wind and generally dark conditions making any lens a nightmare to hand hold!

Hi all, been reading the thread for a few days now. Been on TP for a while but after a fair hiatus just started using this iPhone app which is very handy :o

Anyway loads of handy info for a G2 owner like myself and some great pics. Loved the oil and bubble ***** from a few pages ago!

I'll get round to posting some and joining in a bi more when I'm back on the computer.

Cheers, Diego
