My Panny 100-400mm is a bit stiff but TBH I've never thought it was much of a problem. It's something that needs to be tried to see if it is a problem but it wouldn't put me off buying the lens and at least it doesn't seem to creep when you're carrying it.

I have the Panasonic 100-300mm mk11 version with the 1.2 version firmware as I like to keep up with the latest. At the moment I am waiting for the 100-400mm lens which is in transit from Japan. It all depends if and how I get on with the new lens before I consider selling the 100-300mm which is dust free. I am very fussy over all my camera gear and keep it in top condition

weight is the issue , we had a look at a used panny 100-400 mk 2 today it was good price £1000 nearly bought it , but reviews say it does not perform any better than the mk1 they didn't have a g9 body the size may put her off so may look at the gx80 . Budget is around a £1000
thinking about a sony a6400/6600 and a 70/350 as well

I'm very happy with my original G9 and mark 1 100~400mm.

I came away from Nikon not because of the camera weight but that of the lens weight. at least the Pana MFT lenses are a lot lighter. As for the pana 100-400mm lens I have one in transit from Japan in "top mint" (japanses way of saying like new) for £575 +Plus import charges. took a bit of finding to meet my criteria. Hate to think of the number I rejected when looking on the interweb

If your thinking of those sony cameras remember they only have one card slot, I prefer a camera with two card slots so I have a backup. worth thinking about as well. Also your stuck with sony lenses but they do have a large range.

The G9 is large for an M43 camera, but not compared to other dSLRs.
My son took over my G80, and there is little real difference in the feel of the weight and size.

I imagine my 100-400 is a mk1, but my zoom is fine.

Using the 100-300 with the GX9 is a pleasure, but using the 100-400 with the GX9 is somewhat less comfortable, the size of the G9 makes it much better balanced and easier to use.

With your budget, I would prefer to get a G9 and a mk2 100-300, and get a 100-400 later if needed.

Remember the GX85 is 16mp and the G9 20mp

You will enjoy it. Did it come with a lens?

A 100-300 mk11 would cost 33-40% of a 100-400, and gives excellent results (FF eq of 600mm)

The 12-60 Panasonic lens gives as good results as the Leica 12-60, and the 14-140 mk11 is also a very useful and compact lens.
 
There is an Olympus 100-400 in the for sale section at a good price.
Bear in mind with the G9 you would only get the in lens stabilisation.
I regularly use an Olympus 12-100 on my G9 and have no issues using it without the IBIS.
At longer focal lengths the in body stabilisation is less effective than the in lens system.
 
Just received from Japan the 100-400mm panasonic leica lens. No wonder it is worth buying from Japan this lens looks new. It is the Mk1 verson needed the latest version update thats all. ponly Only £525 Plus import duty etc, I would be looking at £800-£900 if buying in the UK for the same quality

The 12-60 is a very useful lens. The 14-140 is almost the same size and weight.
With the 12-140 (and many other Panasonic lenses) you will want the version 2 or Power OIS versions, they need to be Power OIS not Mega OIS for the dual stabilisation to work.
One exception (there may be others) is the 45-150 which can be updated with firmware to work with dual stabilisation. The 45-150 is a hidden bargain, it is fantastic for close-ups, either with extension rings or screw on close up lenses, and is cheap (for example, a very good dealer https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/17715456...Fd4QQ+WQFbp/3279Rp4oTtArU=|tkp:Bk9SR96YxMCLZg)


One of the biggest advantages of the dual IOS and the Panasonic 100-400 is that you can get good shots at 1/15 second at maximum zoom.

Another useful lens is the old 14-42, only single OIS but small, light and cheap, under £50 sometimes

came a week later 7 days to be exact Import £147 . Total cost was about £722. Yes i know you can get them cheaper in the UK but nowhere near in this condition .Many I have looked at in the UK have an issue. either a lot of dust on the front lens- the extended foot is missing- the detachable hood is missing. Then we come on to condition , some showing signs of wear or dents . If the Japanese advertise as Mint or near mint you would not know they are not new.

First outing with the g9 , couple of questions , there is bleeping noise seem to happen when you are moving the camera think it is to do with the is , can you turn it off, cant see a way to assign back button focus can it be done

When I used Canon, I always used back button focus.
I did set it up on the G9 (you can programme all the buttons) but never used it, in fact it gets in the way of another very useful focus feature

try going to spanner setting and down to reset. There may be something needs changing in the menu and this is the best way to check. then see if itdoes it again without a lens then with a lens. this way you know if it is the camera or the lens making the noise. I don't have any noise with mine. That is what I do anyway so sort out something quickly. it doesn't take long to reinstate your settings

I just had a reasonable play with the iA on the g80. Always ignored it before. It's really very good.
 
Me and Mrs WW are in Thailand and I was amazed to see both the GX7 and GX85 on sale at a camera shop in the main shopping centre in town. I was told that they are "new" but I think maybe they are new but old stock. The prices seemed reasonable and Mrs WW asked if I wanted one, I said No as I have my GX80 with me but I was sort of tempted as if mine dies it'd be nice to have a spare without searching the UK used market.

Just bought a GX80 ( because it's compact) and waiting for the Meike macro extension tube set and a lumix 50-200mm f4-5.6 hoping to do (macro and general) photography. I absolutely love all the insect and spider photos on flowers. Completely new to none point and shoot photography. Is anyone else using this kit for this. I have watched a (millions!) of youtube vids, so hopefully will post pics.

A Meike MK320 flash also on route.

Can anyone recommend an online course for beginners to get me started
