You don't have to open carry to be a "cowboy".

But cowboys by tradition come with a navy colt or a S&W 686 (type) worn as a side arm
Most carry's these days would be a colt .45 acp or even one of them there plastic Glock 17's 9x19

( I never did trust them things! Much preferring a colt .45 acp or even a double stack Para-ordenance,.45 acp. But they are bit heavy in a shoulder holster)
