One cigarette left

I packed in last August (although I started again at Christmas). I use the inhalators, really good, and worked far better than patches alone.

Tomorrow I stop smoking..........for good anyone have any tips to pass on to make it easier for me, I very rarely use pubs so that could be a good one now smoking in public houses is banned:thinking::lol:

I've been stopped for a few years now , It will take willpower for the first few days as you will get the strongest cravings during that period, when you feel like a smoke do something to take your mind off it, it will get easier , trust me :)

try not to drink either as when you're drunk you may find you want to smoke

Another good tip...when you want a smoke, have a (soft) drink instead. Your brain gets confused with cravings, and sees cravings for food, fluid and nicotine all the same. So a lot of the time you think you need a smoke, you're just thirsty or a bit peckish

Check me out, the failed quitter giving advice :D

Just pick up an e cigarette, sit back and relax. Having said that you can only relax if the spare battery is charged, just in case you run out :)

smoke roll ups they are a massive pain in the arse and after about half a pouch you will have given in and either bought more straights or quitted ;)

nicotine lozenges did it for me.warning i got hooked on them and it took 7 years to get off them..

I've stopped, temporarily, quite a few times. The first few days were completely painless - really felt as if I'd never smoked at all - the next couple of weeks were quite easy, but I was climbing the wall after a month.

Sorry all I am enjoying one right now...............its a menthol Crafe away plastic jobbie:lol:....no nicotine just an odd minty taste:shrug:

I've never really craved since giving up, I have had one or 2 though since but only when rather drunk though and not thinking :nono:

First of all I'd like to wish everyone giving up the best of luck with it. Then I'd like to say giving up is just that - giving up - and not substitution with stuff like patches, e-cigs, gum, etc. If you feel you really need them and they truly help you then go ahead. But... the best thing to help you quit is to empty your last ashtray of dog ends into an airtight container. When you get the urge to light up just take a whiff of the open container instead. That ought to put you off.

I packed in smoking in Jan 2006, I went cold turkey as it proberly the best way to go to get completely of the craving for Nicotine.

I remember the first couple of weeks were pretty hard, but after that the craving goes.

Proberly the nasty bit but it's very good in a way, is all the black tar you start to get out of your lungs you cough it there and as the weeks go by more & more shows up takes a few months for this to clear up totally.

When i packed in i did put on a couple of stone in weight, but now lost that due to generally getting out Hiking or Cycling.

Let put it this way you feel the effects on your health after about a week, you wake up in the morning feeling much more refreshed & not as groggy.

You'll get less headaches.

You see a great improvment on your bank balance.

You'll not smell of stale smoke anymore

I think a hard 2 weeks of life after quitting is much better in the long run, on both your health & bank balance.

it takes some believing that shoving some old dead leaves in your mouth and then setting them alight can be so addictive, but I was addicted as bad as anyone else, bad health forced me to actually manage to give in over 20 years ago, its not easy, but one thing you must never do is have "just one more" as you wont ever crack it. I have friends who stopped and then were talked into having "one" for social reasons and never ever stopped again. I would like to say good luck to everyone who stops, its not easy as us ex smokers know all too well. Now am an anti smoker as to me they are a complete waste of money and dont do you any good health wise either. Everyday when you have stopped say "im a non smoker" it wont help a great deal but you will be proud that you have cracked the weed habit! GOOD LUCK

Although I'm an ex smoker I hope that I never come across as an anti smoker. When I smoked I always found the ex smokers that had that attitude just drove me round the twist. (no offence meant to anyone honestly, it's just how I felt).

I do agree absolutely with billyd601's comments about never having "just one more" though. I just know that if I had another then I wouldn't start again straight away, but probably have another in a few days, then maybe just buy a packet of 10 and so on. I reckon within a couple of months I'd be back to buying 40 a day again... NOT a good idea.

I really hope that dangermouse and hashcake manage to stop. It does get better with time. It just doesn't always feel like that it will, but it does. And if you don't make it this time... well, just try again.

How's it going anyway?

cheers

I would like to say a big THANKS for all the encouragement to everyone who has commented and yes its now getting harder, but I am determined and its been a few days now and the shakes have kicked in and the silly plastic thing is doing me a world of good...even though its not a nicotine supplement as theres no nicotine content at all but it keeps my fingers occupied, lets make it 2 weeks and see if I am still in the same frame of mind and by the way I feel worse now than when I was smoking........coughing up the odd lung slug ....euch

When you can smell "smoke" on others and around you and think "yuck", that's the moment you've really cracked it.

As for the shakes, not sure if it's viable for you, but perhaps go and brush your teeth to replace that "cigarette" moment? Otherwise perhaps pick up something like your camera manual and read a few pages of it in the time you'd normally smoke a ciggy. Just don't focus on the loss of smoking and the shakes will soon pass.

Good luck!

Bit late joining this thread but just wanted to offer you all my support. Keep it going fella's, you're doing it for the right reasons!

I've never smoked but i heard that part of it is having your hands doing something....so combat that thing and keep your hands busy when you're tempted?

If I had boobs I'd be able to stop immediately :D

I am still off the weed but the cravings have begun so try not to think or talk about it and keep myself busy as much as possible, will up date again in a weeks time.........thanks buys

Just wondering if the guys had an update for us on their progress?

Well I opted out and went for the electronic cigarettes. I did try a 'proper' cigarette again today and I'm pleased to say it did nothing for me. I didn't finish it, but I did go and have a puff on the e-cigarette to take the taste away (French Pipe Flavour). I am now happy that I don't need to smoke tobacco anymore, but my next step is to reduce the nicotene content of the liquid I use and see how I get on with that. The problem I have is that I really enjoy the different flavours you can get for these toys and I enjoy the habit more than smoking. I suppose as it's not a health risk and a fraction of the price of cigarettes there is no real reason to stop. It also has the added advantage of stopping me comfort eating. I'm just off to puff on some coffee flavoured vapour in front of the TV. Or should I go for the chocolate flavour? Or maybe a combination of the two? Now I can't decide!
