No
Just bought a d700 2nd hand but only 1100 shutter movements, luckily i have a couple of lenses that will be ok on the fx body (primes only though) hopefully ill sell my other dx bodies and lenes to pay off the credit card before she notices lol and hoping she wont notice the difference between my d90 and the d700:lol:

It still says Nikon on the front, she won't notice anything. ;)

Good luck with selling the old gear and enjoy the new camera. Just try not to smile too much when using it or you'll give the game away.

She'll notice if she tries to lift it! ;)

she WILL notice- Ive just e mailed her a link to this thread :lol:

Good luck with the new camera fella

Les

I tell my missus every time I buy a new lens. Just not how much it was ;) "ah it's just a prime, doesn't zoom or anything, cheap enough" after splashing almost a grand!

And no, I'm not sexist. I do realise many women know their gear. I also know my missus does not :D

I'm a firm believer in absolute honesty and tell my wife what and how much. Hell, my last 2 body purchases have both been after comments like "If you buy the sodding thing will you shut up about it?"

Pretend it only cost you about £1K, rather than the £6K you really paid:).

went from a canon 600D to a 5D3 (2k ish) ...and she has'nt a clue... they are both black!!!!!

do yourself a favour and tell them f*** all ... or it will cost you anothe 2k in handbags, shoes, frocks etc .. ;-)

So, while purchasing this lens (you lucky sod :D), you made a conscious (or unconscious) calculation of the risk/reward involved.

You, my son, made the correct choice

I have a longing the buy a D700.

if you misses needs anyone to offload I have a wife who's been in the same boat several times.

And I'm still married :D

Enjoy.

Ill just use the line "this old thing I've had it for ages lol:)

Lol, sounds just like my house, she's even pointed out that if I mention something twice I'll probably buy it :-)

HMMMM, still havnt told my other half about the 70-200 i just bought.
I hid it up stairs, then my good mate bowz bought me a lens shaped cup for my birthday, hmmm thought i, test the water here i think.
So i took the cup home, plonks it on the table,. . . whats that she asks, new lens i replied, how much was that. . . . £800 i replied, now my girlfriend is rather small and quiet, doesnt swear or really raise her voice . . . . . . .IF YOU HAVE JUST ******* SPENT £800 ******* POUND ON A ******* LENS I WILL ******* SLAP YOU. . . . . . i then ( quickly ) showed her the lens was really a cup and everything was fine. . . . . .say nowt mate, it,s my money and my choice, BUT its really not worth the hassle and earache to tell her the truth. . . ;)

I just hope, when I die- the Mrs does sell my gear for what I told her I paid for it :lol::lol:

Les :D

Well trained other half then :D

my Mrs just said its your money when i got my 60D and 400mm f5,6

My wife is just pleased that I stopped buying cars. This is much cheaper!

Kev.

Think I'm in the same boat as you Mike, having just purchased my dream camera (a Nikon D3s), that I've been lusting over for years. Fantastic price, and for such a low mileage example, a fantastic deal.

Not sure the wife (who actually is a bank manager) will see it that way though. The game is trying to pay the CC off before she notices

I'm allowed to spend whatever I want on whatever I like - with the proviso:
Its the right kit & I'm not duplicating what I already have..
Almost had a 300mm F2.8 last month - realised I actually want a 400mm F4

Don't do what I did and ask for a camera as a birthday/Xmas present from the missus as they then know exactly what model it is!!!

I had the devils own job convincing her my upgrade was a 'necessary' purchase!

I think I could probably upgrade again to a D700 as I don't think she'd notice the missing zero on the front :D

:lol::lol::lol:

some great replies here!
I don't know how i've got away with upgrading twice, AND buying a second body without her noticing!!
She keeps thinking i'm always buying new lenses for some strange reason though!!
I too hope if i die she doesn't sell all my kit for what i told her it's worth!! :gag:

Really? Some of you lot have very strange relationships..

I would say perfectly normal ;)

I never lie to my partner about anything, I just don't tell her everything. I tell her I'm buying a lens, but just not [exactly] how much it is if it's really expensive. We're not rich, and when I splash out it could potentially mean something else has to wait, like a bill or 3 ... they'll get paid too, eventually. Not worth a screaming match, so I make little of it ;) To be fair she never asks about price, just lets me at it.

I'm sure she does similar with all that fancy make up and shoes that get delivered here. I don't ask how much, as I don't care so long as she's happy.

This ;)

Happily married for 10 years.

I was a pro when i was married & split up,her solicitor try to take me for half my gear so she could sell it and get some money.
I say never let them know what your gears worth :D

Always easier to ask for forgiveness that permission :)

Ouch, thats nasty!

It was not a happy time :(, plus i just been accepted by a good photo library for my stock photos, when she moved out she picked up the box with about 2/3 of my slides in it,then kept saying she would give them back but never did.

It was a long time ago,but still left its scars :(

I can imagine, sorry mate didn't mean to dig it back up :(

What a tangled web we weave..

The thing is, all your lovely wives know about the new cameras and lenses, they are just waiting for exactly the right moment to bring it up....

Just say what our wifes/GF's say?

"What??? This old thing??? Had it ages!"

That said...my wife didn't notice my Tamron 70-200 had transformed into the Nikon 70-200. Neither has she noticed the Tamron 28-75 become a Nikon 24-70.......despite her lifting it and there being quite a weight difference.

Bless her!

She'll notice if she looks at photos taken with it ..

I remember when i got the 135mm f2, she knew it was new never really moans at me for getting new gear but didnt know how much. I then started talking to her about something and she lost a receipt so I was trying to get the price for her, logged into my card online and like a shining beacon the very top entry was the 1k for the lens - FAIL.

So it cost me 1k and a spa day!

Or the alternative...

"Hi darling...I've decided to sell some of my lenses, the old camera and swap it for a slightly newer one cos it's a good deal. By the time I've sold everything, the cost of changing is practically nothing."

And if you get the silent treatment use it as more time to edit photos! Result!

My missus bought a horse............ this of course gave me carte blanche to buy pretty much anything I like to do with my camera (within reason) :)
