Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

Emperor Dragonfly. Om1 mkii and 300mm. I am starting to think the mk ii is a little bit better than the mki for dflies in flight. I took so many photos that day though and was testing out AF limiting and all sorts so im not sure what photo was taken with what settings.

Brilliant!

I think my opinion now is the OM1 Mkii AF is definitely better than the OM1. Well for things in flight anyway. (Its still maddening when trying to focus to the closest focus point and the subject is the nearest.)
This was the OM1 mkii and 300mm.

Fab!

Had a session with the OM1 and 60mm yesterday - good fun and amazingly light and portable compared to what I was used to :)

I was typically shooting at f7.1 or f8 with iso800 which gave a decent shutter speed even on a cloudy day... which kind of begs the question why would you use a flash for macro (on MFT) as I wouldn't want to stop down any further anyway due to diffraction? Thoughts welcome :)

Looks like your getting the hang of things Mike

Hi folks,

Anyone here been to the Norwegian Fjords?

I am going on a cruise with my family as my mother is severely disabled and this may be her last time to get away due to her health. Obviously, I want to take some nice pictures of us all but also the views there.

I am thinking about what cameras to take and it would seem to make sense to take the 2 OM1 bodies and the 8-25 F4, 12-40 F2.8 and 40-150 F2.8 as this covers 16 - 300 mm in FF terms. I do also have the teleconverter and digital if needed.

I recently purchased a Z8 and the image quality on that is amazing but I only have the 24-120 F4 currently.

So, just wondered if anyone had been and taken M43rds gear as March / April time when we are going could be a bit crummy weather wise.

Like the question above, anyone been to Florence Italy ? I’m trying to decide if my 20-70 F4 will suffice, or if I should take my 16-35 as well ?

I went there a while back with a wide angle and a zoom (10-20 and 18-135 on Fuji apsc) and used a pretty even mixture of both - having said that I'm all for travelling light these days so would go with the 20-70 in your situation I think. Great photography location, you'll have a blast :)

We went in 2013 at the end of May and had remarkably good weather. I used a Nikon D5100 and 16-85mm lens for nearly everything. I had a 75-300mm with me but only used it from the boat when still in Southampton and for the midnight sun shots. You can see the results at https://hurwitt.me.uk/photo_albums/Holidays/fjords 2013/index.html.

These days I'd just take my OM-5 and 12-100mm and use my phone if I needed anything wider.

Got to agree with alby to some extent Mike , is it not possible to keep the 100-400 and fund a 300 differently I.e finance or bank loan .they often come up used fairly cheaply

Well I’ll see how it pans out with the 300 - the chap is due to be up here at the end of the month, and I’ll compare the two then (unless the 100-400 is sold). Cheers

Your doing well with it Mike

Agreed that’s super Mike

Took the cameras on a little camping and fishing trip and walked around a National Trust site Shugborough Estate.

I think most of these were done with the HHHR mode / live ND mode.

A monster trip to Dorset for me (after a week working in scotland) but all has been totally worth it as a few Scarlet Darters are still hanging on. This time I managed to get a shot of one away from the ground so was very pleased with that.
