Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

Not sure I need it but could be useful to have something in the bag. I'm off to Marrakech I'm August so thought it might come in handy in the Medina

I'm not too worried about the bokeh as I'm currently tossing up canon Vs Sony for my return to FF
The 17mm f/1.8 is considerably smaller and lighter for travel (and cheaper!). It easily slips into a pocket. Also the 45mm f/1.8 though mine isn't as sharp as my 17mm f/1.8. I know others have differing opinions on which is sharper.

I have the 17mm f/1.2 as well which I mainly bought for gig photography but this was just before covid, and I've slipped out of doing that these days so it hasn't seen much use. It's really quite big and heavy for a M43 lens.

Here are a couple of old shots taken with the 17mm f/1.8 - taken on my Em5ii and Pen F - so old cameras and sensors - and downsized of course, but I am happy with how sharp it is. .

I'm not too worried about size of kit. It's all smaller than my old FF stuff to a degree.

The new 17 mm F1.8 is about £430 but you can get the F1.2 Pro for not a lot more grey market.
Your money, your choice. But you did ask for opinions …

The big ones are weatherproof, and the small ones aren’t. But the big ones are big, and the small ones aren’t.

Super shots Phil

Trapped in by the TT races today so had a mooch around the garden. I should do it more as there's so many tiny insects that I would never have seen if I wasnt addicted to trying to take macro photos. :)

Very nice of a difficult subject

Just back from visiting relatives in Moray, and whilst I was there thought it would be rude not to visit Bow Fiddle. This is a hand-held high res. shot, OM3 and 12-45 f4 Pro. More shots to follow.

That’s a superb set .love the muskets

Anyone else looking forward to the OM5 ii?

I tried the OM3 and didn’t gel with it. Wasn’t much smaller than my OM1 and didn’t like the lack of grip.

I’ve been hankering after another smallish camera and keep looking at the GX9 (which I had years ago & wish I’d kept). Thinking the new OM5 could fill that gap depending on price and spec.

I have a grip on my OM-3, which makes all the difference. I have owned most of the Oly EM cameras, and the OM-5, and the 3 feels the best built one of them all.

You can always wait for the latest and greatest camera - but you'd be waiting forever as there's always a Mk3/Mk4/Mk5 et al round the corner - in any make. Live for the moment, not on rumours.

Oh I have two OM1 cameras so not in a rush. Just waiting to see if this new OM5 can be my holiday / travel camera. If not, I will stick with what I have and as and when the next OM1 mark 3 or whatever comes out I will grab that, then relegate one of the current OM1 cameras to the holiday bag
