Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

Rather than camera specific forums, maybe we should have one dedicated to 720nm IR photography? I feel I might drive some ppl away from this forum if I keep posting my IR pics on here, which I wouldn’t want to do.
You're using an Olympus camera. It's a perfectly valid contribution to the thread and broadens our knowledge. Please keep posting.

I agree. Personally I have no interest in IR photos, but that doesn’t mean that I want to see any Olympus user ostracised. Keep on posting.

Any idea why my flickr links are showing the way they are?
I can’t see any issues with Flickr posts showing on here, but for some reason some of my posts on Flickr are hidden and I can only seem to access them by clicking on the links I’ve posted on here. … very strange.

I post the links the same way but only two images show and then just the links below to the other two images.
.... I don't know if this might help but do you click the Share icon and then Copy the BBCode and Paste that into your post here on TP? This method works for me.

Just copying and posting the link is where it doesn't deliver what you want.

Yes I just click on share and copy and paste as I've always done.

Actually I noticed that the first time I posted some images, so I assumed it was just a limitation of this website

How many of my fellow OM / OLY owners use just M43s ? Anyone here also have FF?

I’m so torn on selling all my LUMIX FF gear.
.... I exclusively use my Olympus OM gear but there have been odd moments when I would have liked what FF has to offer again. It was Canon FF for many years and Nikon before that.

There is no such things as the perfect camera! :D

I am wholly m4/3, having sold my FF and APSC Nikons in March. No regrets. But do what YOU want to do - don't do what anyone else does just to "conform". It's YOUR camera, YOUR hobby, and YOUR money!

I have the S5II and about 7 lumix lenses. I just don’t use it that often since moving back to M43rds (originally a G9 and GX9 shooter but Canon DLsR before that).

I’m sat here with a pile of camera gear that I could part ex or sell that isn’t being used. I won’t get back what it cost me and I’m not in need of the money so part of me says keep it as if you need it you have it. But then the longer I keep it the less it will be worth in 6/12/18 months time.

I was thinking of just trading it at wex and grabbing the 8-25 and 17mm 1.2 and being done with it all.

I used Oly 4/3 DSLR and Oly/OM M4/3 now. I have no desire for more expensive heavier gear.

Your images are gorgeous. How long have you been into photography?

I stated in 1985 with an Olympus OM10 but sort of quit in the early 90's when family life and mountain bike racing got in the way.
I got back into when I bought an Olympus E-410 DSLR to take photos for my other hobby around 2009. I never really quit though with the family compact camera it wasn't just snaps.

The kit is less important than many think. To quote Ansel Adams "The most important part of the camera is the 12 inches behind it".

There are better photographers than me on here.

I used to work in a camera shop a few years back and ran photography experience days/workshops. I played with a huge range of different cameras and had to learn how to use them all, but I never felt the urge to purchase full frame for myself. MFT and APS-C have always been good enough for my needs. I’ve also met professional travel and wedding photographers who use solely MFT and I can’t fault their work. The only thing that may draw me away from MFT is Fujifilm XF and it has done a couple of times. I’m always back and forth between the two. I currently don’t own any Fuji gear though with the intention this time of sticking with mft, but I’m in the market for a new camera atm and considering e-m5 iii or or lumix gx9. I might end up with something completely different though… we’ll see

Well I have about £3k of kit sat here doing nothing. I haven't touched it in months. I am not a pro tog. I like my macro and close up photography and take holiday images and pictures of my dog. I only post here occasionally and that is about it.

If I sell the Lumix stuff, I can get the 8-25 and the 17mm and still have money in the bank. If I then feel like I NEED to explore FF again then I would more than likely get something like the R6ii or something better for animal / macro photography. The Lumix system is good but its not a sport and wildlife camera.

Yesterday I sat with the S5ii and 24-105 set at 100mm and the OM1 and 40-150 set the same. I set the cameras up in manual mode, mirrored the settings and took some images of the dog. I couldn't tell a difference and neither could the wife. The Oly also was faster focusing and locked on better than the Lumix did.

So, I think the sensible thing would be to release the cash and park it in the bank to see if I NEED anything else. I may be absolutely fine with the 12-40 F2.8 Pro V2, 40-150 F2.8 and the 90mm macro. I have the 2x teleconverter already so perhaps just get the 1.4 x also.

But I can leave the money in the bank and see how I get on. There is no rush for me to get the 8-25 or 17 mm 1.2. I can save up for those if needed.

I could even wait and see what if anything changes with an OM 1 mk3 or whatever they release next.

OM Systems came really close with OM-3 for me. Although, I would like a pen f ii. I made the mistake of selling my pen f for £450 a few years back and I miss it, but they’re not worth what people are charging for them secondhand atm. If they released another with weather sealing, I’ll more than likely be sold depending on asking price. It would need to be a similar construction though. One off putting factor for em5 iii and OM 5 is the plastic construction. And I do like rangefinder style cameras. EM5 iii has the weather sealing which the lumix gx9 doesn’t have. Hence why I’m torn. Either OM Systems need to release a pen f ii with weather sealing, or Panasonic need to release a gx9 ii with the weather sealing and viewfinder of the gx8. No such thing as my perfect camera.., yet

I had a G9 and GX9 originally. Sold them both a while ago and moved to FF.

I'd jump at a GX9 mkii.

I've held the OM3 but don't like the way it is flat across the front, it needs a grip. I used to hate that about GX9 also.

I'm happy with my OM1 (I have two) they feel nice and comfortable. I won't bother with the OM1 MK2 as it doesn't really offer me anything extra. But I will see what the next version is like.

I think it depends on if you will still need it and how much you have invested. When did you last use it? Do you need it? I have kept my Canon R5. I occasionally did work which needed good low light capability - night time football matches with appalling floodlights, or events where I needed a decent flash, so I ran two systems. I also have quite a few Canon lenses although I have now sold my 100-500mm. I could probably sell it all now, but a little part of me regrets selling my 100-500, It does feel chunky compared to M43 though.

@Petey - interesting about your Pen F. I still have mine and it feels a bit of a luxury as I know it is not as capable as my other cameras and I don't use it much, but there is something about it that I just love. It is fun to use. The OM3 is tempting as a replacement. Is it not of the same build quality as the Pen F?

I have owned the Pen F, and now have the OM-3, which indeed is built like a sturdy carthorse, but without the emissions.

I have invested more than I would get back that is for certain.

Last time I used it properly would have to last year some time, I have just been using my OM1.

Other than the odd light trail or some star trails most of the time I am doing macro or close up stuff. I have three flashes and the macro godox kit with the MF12 flashes and triggers. So lighting is sorted.

I think I will get it out this weekend and see if I fall in love with it again....

Always the way sadly. Photography is a great big black hole to throw your money into but we have to remember the joy we've had. It's a great idea to see if you can fall in love with it again.

I've only ever had the small flash for Olympus/OM, but I discovered that my Canon Godox trigger works well manually on the OM kit for my studio lights.

It's interesting that you haven't used the OM kit for your light trails etc. especially with it having the star AF or whatever it is called. It's some years since I've played with some of these features, but I enjoyed playing with Olympus kit for lightning. Both times I vaguely remember fumbling in the dark online or with the manual to try and work out what I was doing :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

There were with the Em1 Mkii and Mkiii - I've probably shared them before....

I wish I’d never sold it. I didn’t realise they would value up as much as they did. It’s a sale I had to make at the time as money was tight. I liked the camera a lot. Nowadays I have more cash available, but I’m not going to splurge £800 or so on a secondhand camera that I once sold for almost half that amount. I bought mine secondhand for £450 and sold it only a few weeks later for the same amount.
I probably would’ve bought an OM3 if it was rangefinder styled like the pen f. They both seem solid. If a pen f ii is ever released though for a similar price, then it would have to be weather sealed. I think that’s one reason why pen f’s weren’t successful initially as it was expensive considering there was no weather sealing. But they’ve now become a desired camera. I think it took time for people to realise this and was only when it became discontinued that people raved about them.

Three excellent captures. I've never even seen such a good view of a Cuckoo, and whilst I've seen Spotted Flycatchers and Choughs, I've never managed a photo as close as these.
Yes. Cuckoos are always heard, but never seen!
