I stand corrected, Olympus site states

"Enjoy peace of mind in any shooting environment with the same high level of splash and dust proof performance as the M.Zuiko PRO series."

Strange they don't actually specify an IP rating however.....the 12-40Pro does and states clearly "IP53 and -10°C low temperature resistance construction"
 
Long shot - Any ideas on where i could get a replacement battery door for my OM-D E-M10 mark II?

Luton cameras are out of stock, forever.
Nothing sensible on eBay
£25+ for a knock off on AliExpress
OMSystems have yet to respond to my enquiry.

Mine fell apart and while I've managed to glue it back together I'd like to replace it properly.
There is another user over at AVForums in the same boat if anyone has a lead.

It depends on how much the AF matters too as a 40-150 f2.8 and MC14 will be better than the 12-200 but not as portable.
I have shot m4/3 since 2014 and I am happy with my images.

Providing the AF is reasonable I'm happy - I don't want to go backwards in AF from what I can get on the X-S10, but everything I've read so far suggests it'll be plenty good enough for me.

Thats some serious positive reinforcement of the weather sealing Robin! Never heard of anyone rinsing their gear before! :LOL:

Thanks Stephen. That sounds like a good combo - I'm not sure I need the f2.8, especially given the positive feedback about the 12-45 Pro.

This is a shot taken on a boat approaching Niagara falls 8 years ago

Neither the E-M1 or the 12-40 f2.8 skipped a beat that day and both are still in use now. The front of the lens was cleaned and a little time in the sun dried the rest off.

Had my OM-1 and a few pro lenses on a yacht last month. Wouldn’t have thought twice about rinsing them if they got seawater on them.

Fab images Phil! excellent shots and just what ticks my boxes subject wise.

I'm still deliberating, and nearly pulled the trigger yesterday, but have been re-evaluating, and I think for the moment, I’m going to hang on to my Fuji gear, and see what happens in the next couple of months, but these certainly reinforce how good the EM-5 and 12-45 are.
 
A butterfly (I think) taken yesterday with the om5 mk3 and Panasonic 100-300ii.
I’ve no idea what type of butterfly it is though.

BBF. For years I have used BBF but with the continuous tracking of modern cameras, in my case the OM1 I am wondering if if is still necessary. Before I reassign the AF on button I would be keen on others users thoughts.

I’m like you. I’ve been a BBF diehard. But, I’ve changed. Yep it’s all on the shutter button now. I often shoot one handed. Holding the camera down low. Trusting the AF to do its job. Flip screen out, sorta aim and fire away. (Running dog scenario)

BBF separates focusing from the shutter which is useful in certain situations.... but my explanation would be brand specific and I am not sure if it applies to OM.

On my Sony I have three buttons at the back set to override each and focus differently. I normally have the camera set to tracking starting with centre point (but can point can be moved with joystick or touchscreen).
I have another button programmed to do the same i.e. track but override the centre point with wide area which is basically the entire frame. So this can help with situations to quickly find the subject in the entire frame rather than trying to find it with just the centre point (which is lot easier for static birds or humans)
then I have yet another button on the back set to DMF (Sony speak for "single focus with manual focus override"). It will AF-S where ever I have set the focus point in the frame. So with landscapes etc, I can move the focus point with the joystick and use this button to quick focus on whatever I want to be in focus/sharp. I also have to manually alter focus if needed.
Also unlike tracking focus, the single focus uses contrast detection to confirm focus which makes it dead accurate.

So basically now thanks to BBF (back buttonS focus) I almost never need to dive into menus or change settings, I just push buttons depending on the situation and trust the camera to do keep the subject in focus.

Has anyone ever had dealing with UK Digital ? It must have been some months ago but I put in a reminder if they ever got stock of the big white 150-400 F4.5 TC Pro lens, and then promptly forgot about it. Just had an email from them to say the lens in now in stock, but to put down £6.5k to a company I've never dealt with does worry me somewhat ?

I bought mine from them last year, no problems.

ETA - if you have concerns, use a credit card for S75 protection.

I have bought multiple Laowa lenses from them (because they used to be the only "official" UK importer I could find with anything in stock)
On one occasion I received a laowa 10-18mm lens with a loose front cap (not a clip-on cap). It was a lens with bulbous front element so it was one of those caps that slipped onto the front element on top of the built in hood.
The cap was rather loose and basically gravity was enough to make it fall off which I regarded as not good enough for a new lens.
I asked to get it fixed/replaced under warranty and they argued with me that it was within manufacturing tolerances because it had clearly passed the manufacturers quality control.
In the end after a bit of back and forth, they agreed to send me the cap from the same lens they had on display in their shop. They also agreed to send the cap first. The "new" cap worked fine so I sent the "faulty" cap back to them which they said worked just fine for the lens they had on display.

Make of that what you will but that is the extent of my dealings with them.

I bought a Panasonic lens from them a couple of years ago - everthing was fine, no problems at all. As they were about an hours drive from me I went to their shop to collect. They also gave a 5 year warranty.
