Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

@jerry12953

Your tryptich works are indeed inspiring....food for thought :)

.... Aha, the correct term is 'tryptich' and not 'trilogy' as I had written - Thanks Box! [Robin goes off to edit his earlier post accordingly]

We each learn something new every day.

Yes please do Robin, they are inspirational and very good!

.... Thank you Chris! I don't need much encouragement so be careful what you wish for! :D

I like to both inspire, if I can, and be inspired by other photographers.

Unfortunately like robin while I espouse over my camera and lenses ,unfortunately my reason to own and use them is mainly for wildlife . But seeing a few responses I won’t throw my toys out of the pram and just keep on posting and as it was a nice sunny morning for a change and a high tide I might have a few good ones later

I had to look up what espouse meant

Keep posting away, it's easy enough for people to skip past photos if they're not interested (y).

Does anyone use the HighRes function on the Olympus compatible cameras? How do you find it?

Pretty good if your subject is completely still, and I mean completely.

If you're using flash with HiRes mode be aware you must use a shutter speed of 1/20th second or slower which is a bit pants.

Otherwise you'll get banding or a black image.

.... Also, if shot RAW not JPEG, don't you have to process the file in Olympus Workspace because the file format isn't supported yet in other RAW editors? Or am I mixing it up with one of the other Oly E-M1 features?

I haven't tried it yet but may do for a landscape when I'm with landscape (and wildlife) professional Guy Edwardes in The Balkan Mountains in January. He shoots Canon D-SLR, often the 50Mp full-frame body, and is extremely experienced and will doubtless tease me by asking why I have bought a toy on our trip and not a proper camera but he'll still give me landscape advice. Although HiRes can be shot on the E-M1X handheld I plan to use a tripod if only to set and maintain the composition I want. I'll report about Olympus HiRes here of course.

Thanks @GreenNinja67 and @RedRobin

I keep forgetting it's there.

I also remembered the other night about live composite which I'd like to try again for light trails.

Does anyone have any lesser used features they think are great?

.... I had to look up "espouse" too - Just in case Jeff had ideas that I would become his spouse (wifey or husband)! In which case I would suddenly become unavailable to visit him in the remote wilds of Wales!

Jeff, why do you say "Unfortunately my reason...is mainly for wildlife"?

It's only by seeing photos birds or other work we can Gage what is possible with the gear used this is what makes forums so usefull.

I've just got myself a cheap adapter so I can play with my Canon EF lenses on my Oly. It hadn't occurred to me I wouldn't be able to set the aperture :banghead: yes, stupid, I know. Presumably I'm stuck with the widest aperture of whichever lens I use?

Having used a manual lens (lensbaby) on the Canon R and had focus peaking working, I thought it would work on the Oly but it doesn't.... or am I missing something? Is it because my dumb adapter is extremely dumb?

Never really given this much thought but I see Metabones adapter, mentioned on the MFT sub-fora @ DP Review, as being a much complemented make!

If set a programmable button to the settings you need including MF assist wen pushed the MF assist should work.

Al
I often forget but I am remembering more often I have created panoramic stitches with hi res shots

.... Very nice indeed. It's an image which for me works well in both colour and mono. I think I slightly prefer the mono because it's more abstract. Usually I prefer colour images of nature and wildlife but that's just a personal preference.

It's good to see what can be done with stitching and hi res - Thanks for posting this.

My spiritual home would be the Pedants Corner column in Private Eye........
I hope there is another seat at that table.......I will edit my post soon ;)

Yes I have it set to MF assist ON and peaking to ON, red - this is on the Em1ii. Maybe I'll try a different lens. I thought it should work, but wasn't sure.

I thought I'd post a few shots from yesterdays visit to Brandon Marsh Nature Reserve.
All are with the EM1 ii and Oly 300mm f4 Pro.
The Nuthatch was with the 1.4 converter.
There has been no noise reduction applied to these images, and I think the first one at ISO 5000 is pretty impressive.

Yeah for some situations you need to assign a button and switch it on so it starts working I found

I think some people on here use and like Topaz - there is a thread in the Talk Processing saying it's 25% over now, and someone has posted a code for an extra 15% off that.

Topaz Link

This isn't a stitch but I couldn't remember which one I had done

another one from yesterday never seen so many cormorants in one place
lots of flying cormor-ants by jeff and jan cohen, on Flickr

This is a snap from my local RSPB reserve, jam packed with Cormorants and Little Egrets
Quite often a dozen or more of the oily Black critters on one of the many islands.
Little Egrets tend to sit in the trees on the lake edge, upwards of twenty around one lake is very common

That is a lot Jeff, most I've seen is about fifty flying in from Graffham Water.
Saying that we are about as far from the coast that you can be and I believe they are primarily a sea bird
