Cable Release?

I have a OMD 5 MkII and thinking about getting a cable release, what does anyone on here use?

(rant)The price of these things is silly when all most of them do is the same as the old cable release, press the damn shutter release(/rant)
I use one of these, very good. I also have one for the NIkon

It's a bit cheaper from this seller and looks like the same one, although it doesn't say specifically for the Em5-II (or the EM1 for that matter), but the previous one states that one works with the EM5, Em1, Em5-II etc so assume that one that works with the EM5 will also work with the EM5-II

I don't think £2.66 is too bad for a cable release.

Couple from Bamford Edge yesterday evening.

Toby, you used you d750 as well, how did you feel the shots compared?
TBH the ones from the D750 are better, but then the 18-35mm is a really sharp lens. However, when viewed at normal size there's not an awful lot of difference, which is testament to how far these smaller sensors have come imo. What surprised me though is how much noise is present at base ISO. Again you can't see it at normal viewing size, but when I zoomed in to edit it's quite apparent. I actually went back and checked my old EM10 and EM5-II files to see how they compared and they're pretty much the same tbh, I guess I've just bee spoilt with how clean the D750 files are ;)

The base noise annoys me a bit but then I was scrolling through my Flickr today and looking at normal sized shots on my iPad and if I didn't know, I'd probably not tell what was with a x30, rx100 or em1

It's only because it's our nature to examine things in microscopic detail that we notice.

Im surprised at that as its gets a slating on photozone. To me the Nikon shots look a little flat compared to the Oly shots :)
I processed the Nikon ones for more subdued look, I can't decide which I prefer tbh. Are you sure you've been looking at the right 18-35mm as the G lens is generally highly regarded, and is actually sharper than the much more expensive 16-35mm f4.

Wasnt looking at the G as not stated on Flickr.- it seems to show more texture/depth compared to the OLY, however processing could match things up i guess

I took a few versions of that photo as I was using a slow shutter speed and wanted to make sure I got a sharp one. In some i focussed on the stump just past the tree, but I might have focussed on the copper leaves to the right of the tree in this one, but I am really not sure. The tree does seem to be in sharp focus. I am never quite sure where to focus to get sharp front to back focus. Luckily M4/3 has good depth of field.

There is only one person in the world that looks at your photos at 100% - you ;)

This is true, and why I made the comments about viewing sizes and how far these cameras have come :p But when you're processing them the difference is noticeable and so I was just trying to give an honest answer (y)

I use a cheap "Shoot" branded RM-UC1. It cost around £2 for one from eBay if you import from China

I've had an E-M5 (now sold) but no such problems. If it's under warranty send it to Olympus service, who are very good in my experience.

Its not in warranty unfortunately. I bought it from someone on here a while ago. I hoped someone had experienced it and knew a simple solution. I think its on its way to the camera graveyard

Olympus service might be able to fix it for about £120. I'd get in touch with them and get them to give you a quote. When fixed, the camera is still worth more than £200 I think. I dropped my E-M5 last year, broke the screen and had to pay for the repair. I was concerned about having to pay more for the repair than the value of the camera but it was in the region of £110-£120 to get it fixed.

Been looking at getting the Meike M320 flash for the EM1 as I was impressed with it for the Fuji for such a small cheap flash and emailed Meike to find out whether it works with HSS. Their reply says it has HSS master control but what does this mean? Does this mean it can fire other flashes that have HSS, or that it has HSS itself?

Afternoon - looking into cameras again after an extended stint with just my iPhone - is the E-M5Mk2 still getting love? or is everyone now lusting after the new E-M1 ?
Thoughts/opinions please?

Yes and yes :D

But the latter costs about four times as much as the former so it depends on how much you will value the speed and AF of the new camera.

If you want 20mp and can forego weather sealing then you could look at the Pen-F.

Dont ignore the EM10MK11 its a great buy with the twin lens deal.

All of the OMD range are great, the Mark II's are a marked improvement over the Mark I's. The EM5-II is a great camera, the only thing to be aware of is that when using the bigger lenses the EM1 is better balanced and easier to hold with the grip. Of course you can get the grip for the Em5-II. Whether the Em1-II is worth the huge amount of extra cash over the EM5-II or even EM1 is up to the individual. It's a hall of a lot of money to shell out though.

The E-M5 Mkii is an excellent camera, with a small lens it's almost pocketable. The only thing I didn't like it doing was continuous auto focus, I never had much success with it on that body.
Other than that I found it to be a brilliant camera and s/h is excellent value for money right now.

I've now got the E-M1 Mkii and I'm keeping the Mki as spare/backup rather than the E-M5ii simply because of it's better CAF.

Still have my E-M5 MkII and use it a fair bit with my primes and occasionally gripped with the 12-40 but I also have a E-M1 MkII on order which will replace my MkI :)

The EM5mk2 still wins on size. Being 1cm smaller than the EM1. OMD wise, that is. I'm hoping the EM5 mk3, one day, will add improved CAF focussing in a small body. (some EM1 owners don't want that though)

Thanks for the reply - hadn't spotted the PEN.

Also hadn't considered that - not owned an EM10 previously either so thanks.

Agreed, they are magical cameras - I've owned an EM5, EM5-2 and an EM1. I had the 12-40 on both the 1 and 5-2 and can understand why people say that.

Yes, continuous focus still has a ways to go on most of the m43 (and mirrorless) bodies IMHO.

Are you solely m43 now Huw ?

Always the way with multiple models in a range - one is never perfect.

That's not just a range, it's cameras full stop ;)

Thanks both.
LR CC luminance 40 detail 90 or thereabouts. It's a real picky little sensor, if I don't nail exposure more or less I may as well go home. I was shooting with a mate on similar settings, he had a 5D Mkiii, his ISO was half mine.

.

About to be, the SD Quattro (about to go) great output that it has it just too big a bulky for me.
I'm sticking with m4/3rds for the most reasonable balance of size and output quality.

I still have mine but am using it less and less over the winter ( I guess we all are ).

Am thinking of selling my sigma 30mm f1.4 and samyang FE to fund a x100T as a walkabout but not sure if its madness..

It probably is :-)
If you have mft lenses, have you considered a Pen F or GX80 instead?

yes but the Pen F + 17 f1.8 is larger and more expensive than the x100T as i don't have either. Not looked at the GX80

This is a "take everywhere" camera as opposed to a replacement for m43

Is it really larger? Anyway, I find it too expensive too.
