Olympus OM-D E-M5, E-M1, E-M10 - Mk1, Mk2 & Mk3 Owners Thread

First high res handheld shot from the OM-1. Little Moreton Hall in east Cheshire

.... Very nice indeed and a great choice of subject.

I have been doing many more High res Handheld (HRHH) out here in Portugal than I expected to do - All on the 150-400mm TC Pro. I have only inspected them on OM Workspace and shan't process any of my RAW images until back in England in another week. It's really convenient having the HRHH toggled On/Off via the red button by default. Capture One 22 supports the OM-1 files.

I spotted on Flickr that you were heading to Nazarre - would be good if a storm came through ;)
Hope you're seeing lots of great birds too!

Black Magic, Pro Cap that is.
I was actually focusing on the perched bird when this flew into shot.
Wasn't expecting anything..bloody hell..
Needs a bit of proper post processing of course.(Tips welcome)
soo happy to have the OM-1

wOw Trevor, that’s a mega collection of old/iconic machinery - some money’s worth there. Simply amazing condition, brilliant to see it…!!

I’d my VStrom out an enjoyable seventy mile run today in this superb spell of weather.

Cheers;
Pete

Zero artistic merit, just seeing how close I could get with the 8-25mm. Minifigs are 42mm tall and this is the whole frame. I had to take the lens hood off to make sure the on-camera flash wasn't blocked....

Revisit of a Nuthatch through DG taken with the E-M1 mkii and the 40-150 f2.8 pro lens.
Images show differently on here then on flickr for some reason. Maybe Im linking incorrectly. Maybe the bbcode resizing is making it show differently.

The full size shot on flickr is amazing - so sharp!

To say TP is a photography forum it renders photos very badly, loads complain about how soft it makes photos.

Nice pic btw.

I've been playing with the in-camera focus bracketing/stacking - with mixed results so far.

I'd like to manually set the start position and then let it do its thing. As far as I can tell, the camera autofocuses for the first frame, then moves back a bit before proceeding away.

Here is the result of this evening's experiment (EM1 MkIII, 12-40mm F2.8 at 12mm. (I'll move up to 40mm when I have figured it out properly)P3290042_8bit_20220329222822.jpg

Yes, I can't remember which way round it is, but the one that does it in camera (stacking?), the focus moves forward a bit and then back, but if you do it the other way where it needs to be processed on the computer (bracketing?), then it only moves back from the focus starting point.

Edit: When I say forward, I mean towards the camera, and back is away from the camera... just to confuse things :)

Yes, the focus moves toward the camera after the first exposure, then it moves away.

I'm hoping to avoid doing the focus stacking on the computer if I can. However, the jury is out at the moment, and I'm not sure I'm doing it correctly yet.
I tried a couple of test shots indoors last night, and the camera consistently made some mistakes. Some parts that were pin sharp in the individual frames were coming out blurry in the composite. However, I will do some tests at different exposure hifts to see if that helps. I also need to experiment with different focus differential settings.

if your using in camera bracketing then you aim at your target point and it moves backwards ..... if however your using focus stacking then you have to aim at a mid-way point on the subject as it will move forward first then back to the far end to build the image . depending on the amount of stacks you have input it will give you i.e ten raw files and a finished j.peg the j.peg will have a white frame around it showing the actual finished area which is smaller that the subject area in the viewfinder ..I think it shows the finished white square area as you compose the shot .

its just the way olympus does things

I have only recently had time to play with my OM-1...............when the weather was decent I had no time at all, so I am stuck with flat overcast skies ~ c'est la vie.

But yesterday I had a little go at the local Wood Pigeons around the neighbours roof and one took off so gave the chance to see how BiF went (oh, so out or practice) of the 40 images a quick look showed nearly all were in focus(though query critical sharpness on the head & eye?), so here is one I have processed from the jpeg (raws kept until DxO catch up :( )

_3290802_DxO_Wood PigeonWEB.jpg

Nothing special....I should have added about +2/3 EV but did not act quickly enough. NB ISO 500, f5.6, 1/2500s and cropped from 600mm equiv FL (40-150mm & x2 TC) and SH2 @25fps

C-AF & Tr with Bird AI the 'box' was nice & sticky around the bird

Just want better light and more time to 'test' myself again with BiF

Note ~ PP'ed the jpeg in DxO PL5 and finalised in PS 6.12

PS as reference here is the full frame and other than size reduction it is un PP'ed

Thanks. I'll keep playing with it, and I am sure that the results will improve.

OK, so I tried the OM-1 with eye af on my Grandaughter
worked so much better than my previous Olympus (EM-1 mk3)
No noise reduction, I ran one of them through topaz but not happy with the results.

.... Nice one! I have been practicing on Black-backed Gulls and a pair of Kestrels all in flight with the OM-1 + 150-400mm Pro, also like you on C-AF(M) + TR + AI Birds and nailing lots of shots. But you won't like me telling you that the light is perfect in Portugal, even on a cloudy day.

I am not getting on too well with the 'sticky' front dial though, how about you?

Just spoke to Wex re free OM-1 battery with the pre orders and they have had some in apparently but for some reason a battery had not been reserved for my pre order, should now get one when next batch comes in. Took a while on the phone as with their system it is difficult to place an order with no charge- understandable I guess.
They have the new OM 40-150 F4 in stock now

Oh, rub it in do ;) You jammy b***er :sneaky::D:sulk::LOL:

I am looking forward to seeing the results from your trip in the sun :)

Received a rather pointless e-mai from OM System re 'Key Accessories for Your OM-1'.
Rubbing it in a bit.
Please just deliver the items I have on order since the camera was announced!

Yes, I had the same email.................I think they need to get their marketing a tad more coordinated ;)
