Olympic opening ceremony

For all the nay sayers, I like the fact that a little message was left in for them at the end of the Freddie Mercury piece, barely audible and came out mumbled, but they didn't edit it out.:lol:

you mean when he says "f*&k you"?

It might have been a lot better had it not been completely ruined by the BBC coverage. If you're on freeview you cannot cut out the idiotic commentary! Sound mix on HD was dire. The music was too quiet and the vocals way too loud. SD was adequate luckily. There were still weird echos.

Kate Bush was a con. The Bowie fashion thing was awful. The bint in the green dress was painfully bad. Spice Girls were as useless as ever.

I was impressed with the Kaiser Chiefs as normally I hate them but they made a decent effort. The Who were deservedly the bill toppers. Take that awful as usual. No better than the other boy band.

Very relieved that Jesse J didn't murder the Queen track or McCartney wasn't wheeled out. For one dreadful moment when Imagine started I thought he was going to be doing it!

Shame about Adele not being there. She can at least command a crowd. Some of her stuff is whiney but there are a few tracks that aren't. She's an excellent live performer too which is a bonus these days. George Michael wasn't bad. He's normally better though.

Highlight had to be Eric Idle. There is nothing more British than Python.

Yep he certainly did. I doubt anyone not familiar with the footage would not have known as it was at the very end and the sound was being turned down, but they kept it in.

Definately not as good as the opening ceremony, but wasnt expecting it to be any way.
my mums suggestion would have made the night though, she thinks bean should have come on when they were about to put out the cauldron and accidentally sneezed on it to make it go out :D

Is it me or does anyone else think that the Olympic closing ceremony before the paralympics started is a bit rude and offensive? Its like

"well done all the athletes you did well, don't even worry about this lot coming on after, its not like they are real athletes and nobodies bothered or cares to watch them anyway."

No, the Paralympics does its own thing and has its own traditions.

they have their own to come. as well as their own torch relay etc etc. only kick in the teeth i see is that it'll be shown on channel 4 instead of the bbc, but that might be a blessing. Less useless comentary during opening/closing ceremonies for one thing.

The two events are seperate and have their own celebrations, after all, you couldnt have just one closing ceremony for the two events when first events competitors had gone home. Channel 4 have been allowed 150 hour of coverage, I do hope they do it justice, the competitors have worked as hard if not harder to achive their place in the games and I for one will be watching and enjoying.
