Olympic opening ceremony

His speech will be something to look forward to :-). I wonder what new word he will come out with?

Wif Waf ... but this time he'll ask the wif waf to disperse and go home!

Has someone told the fencer who staged a sit down protest that it's all finished and she can come in now?

Fair play to Gary Barlow for tonight after what he's just been through.

Anyone feeling embarrased yet, considering the world is watching

No not at all, thought it was great.

I gave up watching. I can't help but feel bitterly disappointed by that :shake:

I still think the opening 20 minutes was awfull, but I will say that in the end it came together and worked, well done to the designers and lighting people, they worked wonders. It was worth watching and I'm pleased I stuck with it.

 unbelievable.

That was an incredible celebration of all that we've achieved over the last 16 day.

Ditto, and gosh, we are a cynical lot on TP :)

Loved most of it, highlight for me was the parade of Lambrettas :love:

Overall, I thought the choice of music was dismal but just about everything else was the opposite.

The set and stadium looked fantastic. That was a real masterclass in lighting - hats off to the team that put it together. Sound & camera crews - ditto.

During the closing it was really ruined by the BBC.

for example, when the who pop group was on I counted 86 camera shot changes even before they had finished their second number then I gave up. The controller couldn't have had any toys as a child and decided to play with broadcast switches instead.

Realspeed

Let's be honest, all Olympic closing ceremonies are a bit naff, don't think ours was better or worse than anyone else's.

Why totally talentless Russell Brand was in it was beyond me, Annie Lenox I have a pet hate for anyway, and a least David Beckham was nowhere to be seen.

One or two I was surprised by their omission Adele, The Rolling Stones, and bit of Led Zep maybe.

those 3 would have been great - 1d and who were poor i thought. Overall excellent ceremony, very good.

It was naff in a very British way. It's what we're good at :) These Olympics have been truly stunning from start to end and I think it's rather fitting that the closing ceremony was like bad karaoke :)

The only parts that did not sit well we're the inclusion of The WHO (where's the book Pete?) and more fawning over that lovely wife battering philanderer Lennon

Roger and Pete put on an amazing performance. They re not young bunnies anymore, but can still Rock the place.

after the debaucle of the opening ceremony thread I decided to enjoy the closing ceremony without reading all the misery guts posts on here. The result -it was much more enjoyable!!!

I didn't think it was as good as the opening ceremony but it still was better than every other closing ceremony. We really have nailed this olympics from every aspect. Good luck rest of the world doing better!

You know it's going to Rio next!

yup. I'm sure they'll be lots of samba dancing and some more samba dancing. On the strength of the guy dancing around with a broom I think it's safe to say it will not beat ours.

Unless you like samba dancing :)

I'm sure they'll do a good show, just that won't be as good as ours.

I agree, and in fairness, it's not meant to be as 'good' or 'dramatic' as the opening, it's meant to be a party and that's exactly what we we got. What got me, though it was no surprise really, was the amount of people on twitter and facebook, posting that we should use this Olympics to be more positive, to stop moaning about everything and just get on with it, be inspired, move our country forward, etc etc... and what do they do the minute they don't like the opening 10 mins... yep, sit on their arses in front of the TV moaning and griping about it. I mean just FFS! :bang: :bonk:

For all the nay sayers, I like the fact that a little message was left in for them at the end of the Freddie Mercury piece, barely audible and came out mumbled, but they didn't edit it out.:lol:
I reckon it was a great after show party for everyone to enjoy although the sound for Madness and Ray Davies could have been better. I'm even fairly sure I managed to spot my mate on his Lambretta. ( I told him to leave his Sponge Bob side panels on, it would have been so much easier to spot him if he had.)

Glad she was ommited, can't stand her dire songs or her whining voice. Would have thought The Rolling Stones would have been included or even perhaps Rod Stewart. I'd have liked to have seen at least one heavy metal band to really get the place rocking.
