Hardly the auction house's fault that someone wants to sell it; difficult question re. use or display, in use it will degrade and eventually stop working, at which point parts would need to be replaced thus making it less original. As it isn't a non-repeatable work of art my head says carry on using it but my heart thinks 'once it's gone it's gone, so preserve it'. Still, it's not my problem, unfortunately (said the Canon user)
