I keep going on strobist.
SB-600 was mounted on hot shoe, pointing forwards, so yes it would have hit the left side of her face.
Makes it look a bit cut and paste too, but it's not.

Yes, that's exactly what I did.
Flash was set at -1EV, although the EXIF hasn't recorded that. Is it because I did it on the flash not the camera?

Erm, you've confused me :lol:
The exposure was for the sky, had to stop right down to f/22 just so aperture priority didn't over expose the clouds. That left her face in total shadow, setting -1EV makes it fill flash, if you leave it at +/-0 then the camera tries to make the flash the primary light source and you can get unnatural results.

There is a rule somewhere that I can't remember, something like -1.7 for people and -0.7 or is it -1? for things. Wish I'd written it down, but I'd have lost it by now lol. Might be -1.7 for things and -1 for people. I think my Grandad knows it, I'll ask him, if I don't forget...

Cheers for the explanation, no more confusion. Tip about the flash comp, will come in handy, I'm second shooter at my first wedding on Saturday!!

Cheers Monkey, she was confused (lot of it around here!) couldn't work out why she had to stand so close. It was because of the 17mm :lol:

Yes it is slightly, I straightened it and it looked odd, so I went in between. Now you've pointed it out it looks odd again :lol:

Went to Alton Towers with our friends, these are they on whatever they call the waltzers these days. There are a few shots from today, but this seemed the most fun.

It was very tricky, I hate using the P&S for a start, then with all the spinning, lack of VR, need wider angle and I chopped Tom's hair off.
Just none of that seems to matter with this shot though, just works for me :D
 
Just catching up. Great shots, especially 137 and 138. This off camera flash stuff is hard isn't it? But I think you got it just right in 138 :D

I really want to carry on with the strobist stuff, just need at least one more flash and some radio triggers and then I think I can push the boat out with it all.

went for a walk in the glorious weather.
When we got to the local park, there was an old boy band playing 40's? music and people dotted about on folding chairs and blankets.
It was pretty surreal, thought I had gone back in time.

I like the chalk shot, great texture. Don't think the T&S effect works in that last shot though.
