
Erm, you've confused me
The exposure was for the sky, had to stop right down to f/22 just so aperture priority didn't over expose the clouds. That left her face in total shadow, setting -1EV makes it fill flash, if you leave it at +/-0 then the camera tries to make the flash the primary light source and you can get unnatural results.
There is a rule somewhere that I can't remember, something like -1.7 for people and -0.7 or is it -1? for things. Wish I'd written it down, but I'd have lost it by now lol. Might be -1.7 for things and -1 for people. I think my Grandad knows it, I'll ask him, if I don't forget...
