Oh hell.

 I think that if you don't feel that way about somebody, then you just don't . . . and no amount of rationalising it will change the way you feel.

IMO that's not something that you can force and it's better to tell him that up front, rather than lead him on because you don't want to hurt his feelings.

Things might be a bit awkward between you for a while if you turn him down, but if he's a true friend that will go away in time.
As soon as anything physical :naughty: happens between you, it makes it much more difficult to go back to being just friends if you discover that the spark still isn't there.

Yep, totally agree on this, but you need to know how you feel about him. If you don't know yourself how you feel, you need to be careful that you don't get hurt too.

Spend some time together, see how you both feel about each other, not as partners specifically but as people. There's quite a few things that you learn about someone when you spend a whole day with them - even if you thought you already knew them.

All too late now.
When you're in this situation the best thing is to immediately say something like:
"Shut-up you prat! I wouldn't shag you even if I'd lost both my arms to an alligator!"

Make a huge joke of it, thus giving him the opportunity once he realises the enormity of his error to come back with:

"Ahhh I was just feeling sorry for you, you ugly bloater - F**- it, lets get pI**ed!"

Everyone's happy, embarrassment is averted and he never mentions it again.
