50mm Chinese M Lens

Cheap - well by Leica standards
- say under £500 - f/2 and less non-Leica M lenses - has anyone tried these, especially the ones now coming out of China?

Hi, looking back to my MF days ... (M9 - Summicron 2/35 v4, f 2 ; crop) :

One might call this a proper Medium Format camera. Others might say anything smaller than 6x9 is not. Actually, the first pics I took were with my sister's 6x9 BILORA.

In the austere 1950s, pics were only taken on important occasions: birthdays, Easter, Christmas. So, films lasted quite a long time ... ---

I still have the ROLLEI. It is a beautiful piece of machinery, however rarely used. Every now and then I think about buying a FUJI GFX, but remembering how little I used the ROLLEI and the FUJI 645, I stay with what we used to call Kleinbild (24x36mm) in Germany.

Hi, ... (M9 - Tele-Elmarit-M 2,8/90 f 2,8).

90mm is a typical portrait lens :

Used for a full body pic of my model here ... ;) :

Used my M10 for an event for the first time last week. Shot the whole thing on it with a 35mm Summicron. The quality of the files are provable some of the best I have ever edited. I love the results from it. I am not sure I can bring myself to leave my AF safety net for weddings yet but if I could manage it, I would definitely go 100% Leica (although it's an expensive system).

do you manually record the exposure settings when using your "M" cameras - I used to, some time ago, but then gave up?

Managed to grab a "mint" copy - 50mm f1.4 Version II - family "portraits" with my M8 = 66mm on the M8

Bill, thanks for posting this. Japanese Summilux.
Often looked at it when I shot my Leica film cameras, never bothered.
I found one on eBay and it's on the way to me.
Gonna adapt it to my Nikon Zf

Hi, I typically use certain settings in certain situations, which makes remembering easy.

I only used it for a couple of days, on my M240 and M8 - some of the "negatives" have appeared, (especially when using it at f1.4), but I don't see them as such, I just see them as characteristics from a 1950's lens - it seems to be a B & W lens generally, but colours have there own style - I got a couple of good, different shots, of one of my grand kids, which is what I wanted it for.

when you get an adaptor for your Zf - let me know how you get on as I have a Zf which I don't really use much

I found this review interesting Trevor - it points out what may be called "negatives" as well as the "positives"

Bill. I’ll certainly keep you informed.
Yeah. Spotted that review. Thanks

My MP came back from repair this week, so a roll went through it to test it. Thanks to the Leica Store in Manc for a very quick (4 week) turnaround. Impressive stuff.

It's an interesting lens Trevor - which I'll struggle with but LR helps - I find it has certain characteristics, (maybe negative) wide open, especially with colour, and is quite surprising - but it's what I wanted, (soft focus) - (sometimes I get what I never thought that I would get) - here's a couple of images wide open at f1.4, (focus is not easy, especially with moving kids!) - I never normally post images of my family but this is one of my grand kids - the Mini is to look at the colours, (I've played with the BG in LR), the focus was on the door mirror.
Not many shots to date - these are with my M8 for Thomas, just a quick shot inside with natural light, and the M240 for the green Mini

Considering you were using a rangefinder, that portrait is a beautiful image Bill.
