Hi, an "old-iron" comparison (M9 - Summarit 2,5/35 f 2,5 --- OLYMPUS Pen EP-1 - Panasonic 1,7/20 f 2,5, all pics cropped)

So, there is no ceteris paribus. What to make of it ?

One can take pics with any camera, of course.

Perhaps, one could say 50% resolution differences (PEN 12MP - M9 18MP) do not matter much for an amateur like me ... ---

I prefer the colours from the M9.

but used a £300 combo versus £3,500 combo
That's as maybe but it doesn't change the fact that I prefer the colours from the M9. No doubt there are people capable of tweeking the colours in post processing software to make them the same then I wouldn't have a preference between the 2.

All I was pointing out was the difference in price, not a comment on your preference - for many the Leica M's are more enjoyable to use and will outlast the Oly, (the paint on the buttons on my EP-1 has worn off with use), but the Oly with the 17mm pancake fits into your pocket......... one of the first M4/3's which at the time was quite a step forward

I think that there are LR presets that will emulate almost anything, but I have never figured out how to use them ......... but lots of on-line reviewers and experts seem to sell them

Hi, so do I. But as you said further down, one could have tweaked the OLY colours to make them more Leica like.

@BillN_33 : Bringing used prices into play, makes things difficult. Then, the low-cost cam always wins, because no cam takes pics which are 10 times (or more) better.

Actually, my OLYs wore better over the years. No paint of buttons or any lettering came off, whereas the letters of my M9s around the display wore off somewhat.

The PEN gives me a haptic change experience. The metal body does not feel cheap, it has a nice shutter sound and it is very pocketable. So, I like using it now and then.

It's the same if you have several cars, perhaps. You can enjoy them all, in their different ways ...

M11 or Q3, which?

I know that they are completely different cameras, but I wanted to ask the question as I have been mulling it over today

I keep going around in circles and the only answer I can see is BOTH

If you don't suffer from FLA (Focal Length Anxiety), can live with EVF only and want AF and weather sealing - then there is only one answer, but if none of those are important to you then your options are open.

I love my Q3, but although I could live with it as my only camera, I don't want to so I have an ILC system as well.

My recommendation is the Q3. Everything on one camera. An M11 with 35lux and 75lux would work though, but be massively more expensive.

I gave on on M’s with 1.4 lenses as it’s so difficult for me to use them at 1.4 with accuracy reliably. It got to the point where there was no point having summilux lenses (I had 24, 50 and 90 AA cron) as it’s very fiddly using them at their widest aperture, which is why you buy them in the first place.

With the Q3 you’ll get 28/35/50 and also decent 75mm in one camera with no need to change lenses, with stellar image quality and autofocus.

Get the Q3 and spend the money you “saved” on going somewhere nice to take pictures.

I agree, especially after using the Q on a short holiday in Venice - and I do crop a lot ........... so I need to sell my Q and buy a Q3 ......... and maybe upgrade my 2020 iMac which has only a 3.8 GHz plus 64GB of memory, (the max for this iMac).
But I have been offered a "mint" M11 for £5k and I still have 3 x M lens

Somewhat different equation if you have 3 M lenses. However, you could sell those 3 M lenses and use the money to go to the Faroe Islands and Lofoten business class :-)

It’s probably my fault (sorry :ROFLMAO: ), Had a chat with @trevorbray and might have pointed out where a Q3 was in stock :D Bit of man maths later and suddenly it’s not in stock!!!

I have to admit I told him to get an M10 last year purely because I thought if I made him skinter than skint he would settle down…….I know I know I’m talking bollards, if he was a dog he’d be classed as “red zone”

Not listening to you anymore. Too expensive…lol..

Good to have somewhere to lay the blame though.
