Official Talk Leica thread

Hi, ... (M9 - Elmarit 2,8/24 asph. f 2,8 ; crops) :

The 2nd crop shows smooth circles without onion rings. - Some people think that aspheric lenses always show onion rings. This is wrong. There are differences in quality
of the aspheric lenses, how fine they are polished.

Woe is me  as many of you know I have 3 M9s in various conditions but all with 2nd gen replaced sensors. The one that cost me most was like new when I got it 3 years ago and up until yesterday still looked like it.

003 M9 Red.JPG

Yesterday whilst sorting my kit after a photowalk I dropped a tripod onto that camera now it looks like this. :puke:

008 M9 Red Dented 02.JPG

How stupid and angry do I feel, not only is there now a dent and scrape on the top plate it has knocked the verticle alignment out and maybe the focus alignment (won't know until the weather allows me to shoot at infinity). Ahrgggggggg............ :headbang:

BTW I can adjust both myself I just hate that I will have to do it and have to wait until I can focus on something far enough away to qualify as infinity.

Ouch! Hope you get it sorted mate!

Update, now I can see far enough the infinity focus was out too. Anyway today I have sorted both focus and vertical alignments and all is now well. Whew........

Ouch !! I’d be really ticked off if that was me..

Well done! Fair play to you, not sure I’d want to adjust that.

You were lucky, I think. - After your post yesterday I checked M9 prices on ebay ... ---

Hi, fog on the autobahn ... (M9 - LEITZ Summicron 2/35 v4 ; f 4) :

(In fog, there are typically two kinds of idiots here : one at 100 mph, no lights, the other at 120 mph, but with fog lights on ... --- )

Hi, a non-elusive, patient butterfly ... (M9 - ZEISS Sonnar 1,5/50 ; crops) :

f 1,5 :

f 8 :

(The full pic helps assessing the IQ. Focus shift can be compensated with patience and leaning a little forward ... But with a live view M the Sonnar should be more fun. )

Thought I would post a couple of photos from my Leica M 240 using Canon LTM lenses.

^^ 50mm f/1.4

^^35mm f/2 that one was a bit of a pain in camera and Photo Shop, the low afternoon sun was just above the building, IIRC it was underexposed by a stop trying to keep detail in the sky, the foreground needed to be pulled from the shadow detail.

^^ again 35mm f/2 but much easier to expose for.
I am pretty new to digital RF photography and still use my 1965 M2 when I feel the need to shoot film.

Hi, Schwetzingen Classic Gala ... (M9 - VOIGTLÄNDER Apo Lanthar 2/50)

f 2,8, crop :

f 2 :

L1006573_DxO-v50.jpg

Very smooth bokeh on the M9. - VOIGTLÄNDER can make - or use - higher quality aspherical lenses now. (My 1,2/35 NOKTON v1 shows onion rings.) ...

The Apo Lanthar is my best 50mm M mount lens. I would like using it more, if it were more compact ... ---

Three photos taken this spring around Smithfields Market Leica M 240 and Canon 35mm f/2 LTM.

I find the files from the old M 240 very easy to process, both to B&W and as colour, somehow I can never get the same feel from my Canon digital cameras, perhaps it is the older LTM lens look that does it for me.

Leica released a firmware update for the m10 and m11.
Cant seem to find what it actually does apart from the newer electronic viewfinder...
Hi, on the Fred Miranda forum live view functionality issues with the M10-R were reported:

These may be corrected now,.

I would wait with any firmware upgrade for a while, and do it only if I get something out of it ...
