What a difference a diopter makes!

Maybe it’s my old age, but just picked up a +1 diopter for my M10 - I can see now :ROFLMAO:

Usual Leica tax but delivered super fast.

Do you need glasses anyway?

There's something magical about having a camera in your pocket when the spectacular occurs (Panasonic TZ70 / Leica DC Vario Elmar)...

M9 and cron 35

I've been using the M9 a lot this past week or so, I mean I never didn't use it, but now I'm using it more! Also fairly recently GAS broke out and I acquired a 35 'cron (the new type with the mahousive hood) and I realised that I have several lenses that I've scarcely used with the M9, so I'm aiming to resolve that!

Hi, having 32 M mount lenses (at present) there are a few I use rarely. But I cannot see this as a reason for selling them. Maybe, a use case will present itself ... ---

(I have the feeling that the pics are less crisp with the ND filter. There are three possible explanations : optical (filter effects), mechanical (longer shutter speed),
psychological (my imagination ( :D).)

I have two brands of ND filter (B+W and Urth or Gobe, whatever they’re called)

I actually compared them the other day!

good about BW

feel better made
fit under the hood of 35 cron/rit
actually stop light by the box speed (eg 2 stops makes a two stop SS drop)

bad about BW

yellow cast to the pictures (needs custom WB or about 400k drop from as shot wb in post)

good about urth

zero yellow cast (matches camera set wb)
lighter
Coated glass (BW have this too, but not at my filter budget!!!)

bad about urth

DON’T fit under the hood of 35 cron/rit
actually about 1.6 stops on a 2 stop filter
filter ring feels a bit cheap.
…….

I tend to use the urth ones as colour casts are really annoying!

……….

as I get older I’m starting to be more f8 and vaguely there and shooting less wide open and caring less about using filters. Although I did spend a lot of yesterday with my M9, and 50lux wide open!

Hi, I use a B&W X5-PRO Digital ND 0.9 on the Distagon. - Maybe, I shall remove it in future, and use the lens as open as possible when the sun allows ... ---

Another lens I rarely use ... (M9 - VOIGTLÄNDER Nokton 1,2/35 V1 f 1,2 ; crop) :

L1008973_DxO-v35-12-c.jpg

Why do I keep it? It is my fastest M mount lens and I like its looks (not its bulk and weight). And keeping it keeps me from buying another 35mm lens ... ---

From the day I went out with the M9 and the 50 lux ASPH and just left it wide open!

I got the Lux when I only had the M9, but I didn't really like it, it seemed to need to be stopped down to 2.8 to be razor sharp at any sort of subject distance (say + 3m)

I ended up getting a 240, then an M10 - but my opinion of the 50 Lux didn't change much...

anyway... turns out that the Lux was damaged and after it went on a trip to Wetzlar it came back and finally I saw what the 50 Lux ASPH was really like!

Well that was just before Christmas... and just last week it occurred to me that I've hardly ever taken a photo with an M9 and working lux!

So i'm trying to catch that up a bit...

(not that shooting everything wide open is actually a great idea, but what the h€ll !!)

Quite pleased the pegs are in focus... the 50 Lux doesn't have a flat field like a 50 cron, focus and recompose is a bit of a lottery!

It's probably a hotel.. I think..

When taking car pics, I use my lenses wide open only for details. In other cases, I close down somewhat to achieve sharpness of the whole vehicle.

Always maximally open does not make much sense, to me. It can become l'art pour l'art ... ---

(Quite impressive performance for a lens I have since 1988 (it was introduced in 1979) ... - A proto-typical Leica lens: compact and powerful.)
