Hi folks. I'm looking to get my Leica MP serviced and wondered if anyone had any places they go to to get things turned around in a reasonable time.

I contacted the UK Leica "authorised" repairer and they send it to Germany. The wait time is currently 8 months! Whilst I would like a proper job done, I feel uncomfortable sending my camera off to Germany for such a long time, not to mention being without it for so long. What if they lose it after 6 months?

Does anyone know of any Leica repairer in the UK that they've used and had good service from? I'm looking more for recommendations based on experience. There are quite a few places on an internet search, but I'm hesitant due to the value of the camera (cash and sentimental).

TIA!

Hi Ian @Harlequin565

When I wanted my M2 doing I sent it to Cameraworks-UK https://www.cameraworks-uk.com/ they did a great job at a reasonable cost but wait times were 6 months. They will talk it through with you on the phone or by email. I highly recommend them.

I haven't used them but have visited their shop, staff seemed very knowledgeable.

Thanks guys, I'll do some ringing round tomorrow. Sadly both companies failed to respond to my email query a month or so ago. Was a bit saddened by Cameraworks as I was enquiring about a repaint too. Maybe I'll just speak to someone. Go old school.

Hi, the view from the road between Mathon/CH and Wergenstein ... (M9 - ZEISS Distagon 4/18 f 5,6) :

The Distagon shows flaring. - So does my LEICA Elmarit 2,8/21 asph. Nothing to get excited about. I have only one 18mm lens. Hence, I cannot say if the 18mm LEICA flares less ... ---

Seeing these reminds me that I was going to post some images from my C/Y 18mm f/4 Distagon which I was using the other weekend, forgetting that it was on my Contax Aria at the time so irrelevant to discussions in a Leica thread. Doh!

Not sure if the link will work but I have posted it in the Show us your film shots thread North Greenwich 2023-10-01-0011edit by Keith Hudson, on Flickr

Edit #2 : Well I may as well have posted it here for all the good a link did.

If the Mods feel the need, or any one else objects the image can be removed, I won't be offended.

Hi, in VALE DI LEI/CH ... (M9 - ZEISS Distagon 1,4/35)

f 5,6 :

The Distagon is my best 35mm lens, I think. But still, there is flaring. Is the latest Leica 1,4/35 lens better in this respect ? I do not know. I have not got one ...

After the flaring experiences with the 18mm Distagon I was simply curious. And being highly satisfied with the 35mm Distagon, I thought it only fair not to keep
this flaring in certain situations to myself ... ---

Hi, ... (M9 - VOIGTLÄNDER Ultra Wide-Heliar 5,6/12 screwmount f 8) :

Some flaring around the sun in the upper left corner and on a line from the sun to the lower right corner. There seems to be no simple rule such as " the wider, the more flaring" ...

Many factors contribute ---

The compact car is "stretched". This can happen. I do not have another 18mm, which might be better or worse ...

My 12 and 15mm UWAs are worse ...---

Hi, the stretching is something I can (and have to) live with, as long as one puts important things in the middle of the frame.

The lady on the right might not like her broader figure ... ---

@justpix i have the same 4/18 Distagon. Do you find that there’s a tiny amount of play on the focus ring?§
