Official Talk Leica thread

Nothing much to say, still loving the GFX output, not got enough ££££ so a Q2/Q3 stays in 'when I have enough money' camp. Gone over a year now without buying a camera/lens, and can't see anything on the horizon, thats going to want me dust any moths off!!!
Just go straight to an M. Q is the gateway for Leica M. :ROFLMAO:

Same for you @trevorbray ;-)

Replacement M11 just turned up! Vastly newer serial number and came with firmware 1.6.1 already installed vs 1.5.0 on the first one. Rangefinder calibration looks like it’s perfect for the 50 Noctilux after a few test shots but the weather is awful here so I’ll likely have to wait until tomorrow to really give it a test.

That reminds me, what are people doing with their M cameras to take them out in rain? Do you have some sort of cover for it and the lens?

I just don't take my M9s out in the rain.

FWIW I do shoot a fair bit of landscape stuff in the rain with Fuji weather sealed kit and the biggest issue is trying to keep rain spots off the front lens element they are a real pain to try to remove in post and inevitably trying to clean them off in the field leads to smears instead since my cleaning cloths are probably wet or at least damp.

I’ve got the E60 UV II filter in matching silver to protect the front element from this sort of thing but ideally I need some sort of solution to protect the rest of the setup.

M11 Noctilux 095.jpg

It's really hard to test a setup vs each other but I've just done a quick test between my Sony A1 with 50 f1.2 GM lens and my M11 with Noctilux F0.95 lens. This isn't a "which ones better" as they both have different qualities.

Firstly, the white balance interpretation between the cameras is hilariously different. The M11 and Noctilux combo are also much heavier than the Sony setup and after moving between the two systems constantly, it's the first thing I notice. The M11 makes the A1 feel like a toy in comparison, especially with how the buttons feel. This wasn't expected, especially when both of them are expensive cameras.

Both lenses wide open so you can get a sense of how sharp they actually are. Personally I don't see much in it in terms of sharpness but there's definitely a difference between the bokeh rendition of both lenses. The noctilux is just something else when it comes to creating a pop effect but the 50 GM is much better controlled for chromatic aberration and purple fringing especially which the noctilux really amplifies.

Hopefully the weather will improve a bit for tomorrow so I can get them both out in the field and really see what they can do.

Hi, I take my M9 out in light rain. I carry it in the pocket of my jacket, take it out for pics, and put it back again. I have jackets and vests with deep pockets.

Thank you for sharing your Leica and SONY experiences. (y)I use Leica, SONY and NIKON cameras, and see them as complementary.

I use to do the same with M9 and 35 cron but the noctilux is just too big to do that easily with any of the jackets I own lol. I'm thinking about what to do if I take it abroad as well with the mrs on holiday and it starts to rain and we're somewhere warm so a jacket wouldn't even be an option. I think I'll just get a small bag to pop it into if the weather turns.

I too see them as complimentary. My Sony setup will get a photo in most scenarios vastly faster than my M11 setup could outside of pre configured hip fired street photos.

Hi, I see your point. My VOIGTLÄNDER Nokton 35mm is also quite difficult to pocket ...

In summer, I use vests with deep pockets. Hunter vests are very practical ...

Now the horrible thing .. I thought I had post processed these... the majority of my last push to flickr was that they are raw -> straight out of camera ... including the little flowers pic...
Now I need to update the photos post processing or delete the lot.

Ah well...

Critique.....Laowa 90mm f2.8 2X Ultra Macro APO Lens.... L Mount

To all accounts it's the new king of 'Macro'...that's if you can actually get it on your camera.

I ordered one in 'L' mount for the SL2-S but it's a right 'cow' to get on and off.

There's nothing to get hold of, no knurled ring as can be seen from the picture.

The aperture ring and the focusing ring rotate, obviously, I found myself gripping the very top of the lens.

Not good I thought, something here is going to get dropped.......it's gone back for a refund

Very poor design IMVHO.
