Official Olympus E-PL5 thread. (other m4/3 are welcome too!) Show off your pics!

I used it with the 17/2.8, Sigma 30/2.8 and finally Panny 20/1.7. I just bought an X-E1 and can't justify having four cameras :D
That's a reasonable justification to not need the EPM-1 as well I would say! Not played with my 20mm Panny much yet, but it's made a few nice images so far. I think the EPM-1 when it comes, will be with the 17mm pancake or 14mm pancake. I love pancakes!

It's so cheap, you'd be able to sell it on for not much loss at all. Just got to pick up a lens - kit lenses going for ten a penny!
Where? WHERE?

The 14-42mm R II? Given trade-in is £25-£35 maximum, I see them around for not much more second hand. Often below £50 - but then I am not certain that's what you meant - apologies if I was misleading you!
Should have put a smilie at the end of my post! :》

How are you finding the XE1 against MFT. I have just sold my Xpro-1 and I am thinking of getting the OMD -E5 particularly for the extra reach with a 300mm zoom and for the 5 axis for my disabilities.

I find the touch screen of the E-PL5 amazing and the sensor is very good indeed. The camera is tiny as well.

Downsides are somewhat unresponsive buttons at times and whilst very good, the high ISO performance isn't as great as the that of the Fujis (when shooting the same scene at the same shutter speed). The lenses for the MFT system are high quality and small :)

Thanks for the reply.

I love the Fuji colours and IQ, the main reason for me changing, is that currently I cant capture photos of small birds in my garden as the zoom's are to short. I initially had the 55-200 then the 50-230 but they were to short even with cropping on the 55-200. I have since tried some 300mm manual lenses but I am struggling with focus with the XP1. How have you found manual lenses on the Olympus, assuming youv'e used them with your user name.???

Apologies if I am taking the thread of track.

No problem, interesting reading.

Focusing long lenses handheld with the Oly is a challenge due to the crop factor. Seems fine on a tripod though. I find with birds on a feeder it's more about getting the tripod etc.set up in advance, and the lens pre focused in or abouts the right area.

I find it's okay but I use the 40-150 kit lens. Sharp, but lots of chromatic aberration sadly.

Was playing football at Old Trafford today and will post one or two here that I snapped before my games.

Oooooh, anyone famous?
Did you win?

well I have been undecided all week but the epl5 has been high on the shortlist, but with the Pana G5 being £249 I was struggling to justify the extra £70 for the Oly..

well.... I have been Currys this morning for a fondle of the Pana, quite nice well worth £249 for the kit, looks around for the Oly and find it in the glass cabinet section... FOR £219.97:banana::olympus::woot:

errr touch screen to shoot, how blooming fast....... WOW

anyhoo just a heads up in case you didn't know, extra 6 months warranty when you register and subscribe to Oly newsletter.. just registered mine and .

Already done it! Very handy.

hell fire, that's cheap! Is that with lens and flash?

yep single lens kit with flash.. I am pretty chuffed, they had the EPM1 kits aswell @ £149.97
Dam, dam, dam! Just paid £309 from Amazon.
Wish you hadn't told me now! :p

A couple more from our hike on Wednesday in Lathkill Dale this time.

Getting the hang of the camera now, but a little way to go yet!
Need a longer lens definitely! Got a wanted add on here though!

I've found the touch screen so useful on the E-PL5 that I don't really use my Pen Mini any more :( It's in the classifieds if anyone is interested in my leatherette clad beauty.
The elusive classifieds...

I'm quite pleased with mine (Pen Mini). It slips into the rear pocket of my MTB shirts just nicely (with 14mm Panny attached) :) Mostly gentle riding around here at the moment, which means I can avoid messing about with my rucksack and all that lark. E-PL5 touch is superb though, can't deny that!

few tests from me out in the garden, all jpg sooc untouched with 40-150 R attached.

one thing tests have shown is the video, its not as good as teh Nikon 1 J1 IMO but that is mainly why I wanted the Nikon in the first place so not too unhappy, I was expecting better tho from the Oly video wise.

Pretty sharp at the long end that lens! Impressive. Only had a brief stab at movie on the E-PL5, but I was quite pleased with the quality with the kit lens.
I have a 75-300 on the way, so looking forward to trying that on still and movie.

Correct; and it (BLS-1) works 100% perfectly fine. I swear to the gods!

Extra contact is for additional safety shut-off of some sort; it's more to do with charging than in the camera - operationally it's 100% identical.

Ended up getting the batteries from Amazon, I won a gift voucher so actually got them for free!
Thanks for the compatibility confirmation though!
