Received the Pentax Z-1 bought on here from
@welshwizard645. First impression on opening it: this is a beast, a monster, huge! Does look in extremely good nick though. I've not even noticed the cracked base plate yet.
Apparently Peter put a new battery in for me, thanks Peter.
Second impression... where's the shutter speed dial? Indeed, where are ANY controls? Happily he included a manual... RTFM, Chris...
Some time later... I'm beginning to doubt whether this will be a keeper for me, though I'll give it a go (my problem, not Peter's). Lots of modes and dials and displays and things that go beep beep beep when you focus. It's obviously meant for autofocus lenses, and I've none down where I'm staying, and only one overall (Pentax-F 24-50, IIRC). No microprisms etc for focusing aids, but as mentioned there are beeps and green focus indicators instead. It's an entirely different experience, much more like a digital camera with film inside than the sort of conventional, basic manual camera I'm used to.
