OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

So if that's true (?) the native resolution of such a scanner is less than that of an average dslr ... in which case one might be better off digitally photographing the film images?

Alternatively, if one knew the scanner's native resolution and could choose that for the scan (so that no interpolation occurred), any upsizing could be done post-scan using Photoshop's engine, and the results compared.

At what point do camera lens and film grain respectively become the limiters?

The native resolution is lower (on consumer models) but the recording area is much larger in the case of medium or large format. A good drum scan can still get 12mp of actual detail out of 35mm.

this is worth a read.

The Pentax MX is small enough for carrying around, takes readily available LR44 batteries, a motor drive is available and there are several on eBay for around £75

nah, it wouldn't wind on, the button in the indent on the bottom that releases the film transport cog was stuffed right in, with the bottom off it was clearly buggered, it was full of loose wobbly cogs, bits of plastic and springs, any normal idiot would have noticed.........nay, tried to prove function before re-sealing it...gah

right that's it......I've moved on...:)

Ah! sniff...you can have mine for free, it worked last time I used it a few years ago....for me if I ever wanted to use a compact would get a digi.
I can post it or if you know anyone going to Whipsnade, that lives near you, then I can pass it to them.

@excalibur2

I don't care what anybody say's about you, you'll do for me Bri..:D

Well thanks but I have the F90x maybe someone else would like to swop for that, also have a Nikon RF2 you can have (much bulkier) anyway it's up to you. My computer find system has let me down as I was going to post some shots taken about 4 years ago using the XAII (it also has detachable flash) anyway hope everything still works....Before Asda and Tesco I used to cut a strip of old FP4 bulk film and dev myself to check cameras out.
Well send me an email for your address and I'll post one or the two for basic second class.

Doesn't that need to be a T90 for our Brian........Fs will be too complicated:p:D

:D get the T90 plus 300TL flash and you'll never be bored in the toilet again trying to absorb\remember what they can do :D

Darnit, i'm still on with figuring out how to operate a Brownie ( a box one, not a female one ...they're beyond my abilities!:D:D )

Well thanks but I have the F90x.......

I know, I thought it'd be a spare or for parts to keep the X going, no matter, its in my stuff pile if you need it, it works perfectly besides squeaky af.

Got me a battery grip for the F100 and I must say she looks damned sexy in it!

Takes 6xAA batteries whereas the camera only takes 4. Seems odd that!

I would imagine most peeps buy a grip for the extended shooting the extra batterys allow, s'why I bought mine.....not that I need it anymore

anyway, you gets an extra half frame p/s with the grip...lol

makes it 5f p/s instead of 4.5..:D

Found the shots from the XA2...the flash works and what I don't like about any camera that is a non slr...well you can see my attempt to take a shot of some roses

You should have a chat with @simon ess he seems to have cracked the focus on the XA2... :)

Cheers Chris, but I can't take any credit.

The XA2 is a device used by pan-dimensional beings from the distant future that was accidently dropped into a temporal / spatial wormhole and ended up here.

All you need is the power of the secret number code sequence.

3 (4) 6, 6 (9) 16, 16 (38) infinity.

Now I've revealed it I shall have to destroy the internet.

Well I should be knowledgeable about compacts (erm but I'm not) as I've picked up so many from the bootie over the years just to pass them to my wife as a sorta joke to hear her say "Oh no not another camera".....I test them usually with half a roll of film and had some favourites and produced the shots here over the years e.g. Nikon AF210 for 50p with 10p Kodak colorplus...and another thing I don't like about non SLRs is in this shot I got my finger in the way on the right side.

Yeah finger over the lens is a b****r!

You'll need to bring your car one day and sell all those compacts make your car boot fund back.

That's easiest to do in DOS.

I've given all range finders and most compacts a way, my wife has probably a few more in her drawer as my sons were traitors and bought her a compact digi
But I bought seven films cheap at the bootie today and two were b\w Kodak 400 CN exp 2009 well one was 36exp for £5.99 and the other £4.99...well if anyone wants them, I'll bring them to Whipsnade on the saturday...all free but maybe a toss up to who gets the 36exp :D BTW they are C41.
Come to think of it about Whipsnade- I sent my name etc and asked how to pay, to the email provided, and no one has bothered to reply...so if I don't get an answer will just turn up and pay on the day

Brian, PM @Yv about that, it'll save you enough money to buy a few more cameras ;)

Pentax MX would suit you down to the ground, you can certainly get one and a 50mm f/1.7 lens for well under £150, probably under £100. It has one of the best viewfinders in the business, decent meter, manual only. Pentax-M primes are all lovely (the zooms are a whole different kettle of something or other) and not too expensive apart from a couple (eg the 85mm f/2 will set you back £200-ish).

Agree totally ! I bought one new in 1981 and it has served me well for many years. It hasn't been used for over ten though and I have just sent it off to Harrow Technical for a full service and overhaul. Looking forward to getting it back and shooting film again. I love my D700 but feel like a touch of 35mm nostalgia

Excellent Colin, do please come back and share some of the results with us. I need more Pentaxian friends as most here seem to be unreconstructed Nikonians, if they're not Olympians!

Well I occasionally use a S3 and the lovely M42 35mm, 50mm and 135mm lenses...in fact in my entry for old and new it was shot with M42 35mm Tak
