OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

It's funny I normally leave my films on that store. However when I asked them what was the price for 35mm (cause i was shooting with 120) they said it was 13pounds so I never actually checked the site....

But I guess it's worth it isn't it? 6 pounds for a film its a nice price

It's my 30th birthday present from my family and since I managed to track down an early enough one (1985), that makes it the same age as I am! I can't believe how nice it is, both to handle and in general condition. There is barely a mark on it!

Just got it back from a full CLA at Aperture UK and now can't wait to get out and shoot with it. Fingers crossed for a bit of sun this weekend...

Nikon F ????.......are you sure you have got the correct year Nick? .........perhaps the Coronet Midget will be more apt ......circa 19** ( i'll let you google it! ) :D:D

If you really have to have a birthday year Nikon then Grays of Westminster are likely to be able to fulfill your needs without problèm, whilst at the same time "fullemptying" your wallet !:p

Yeah I know Nick ;) but out of curiosity and considering the object of photography is to take VG photos, why buy the Nikon F? Can it take later Nikon lenses? If you say bought a good T90 it would run rings around the Nikon F with what it can do esp which the combo of the 300tl flashgun.

Well of course the T90 would run rings around an F, there's nearly 30 years of technological progress between the two cameras but despite that the Nikon F can take all the lenses I've got but that's not really the point. I'd like a Nikon F because a)It made its first appearance in the year I was born (see Mr Will's post above) and 2)The F is missing from my set of F's.

Perhaps a T90 can run rings around an F in so far as what it has to offer in shooting options ( i dont know all thé specs as never possesed one),, but i suspect it wouldn't give me a better quality result than what i can obtain from the F given that it's the lens that typically dictates IQ and of course the photographer.

I just couldn't imagine Nick shooting a T90 ( other than to kill it ! :eek: :D ), besides an F simply exudes class.....therefore suits Nick to a T but not a T 90:p

And hence forth the inevitable Canon Nikon debate erupts:eek:.......no please let's not go there!;)
 
Well Asha I've finally kept three Nikon SLRs and two Nikon compacts, but to me a camera is just a tool for the end result...same as my lawnmower. And when in 1961 had the choice between Nikon F and Pentax S3, I chose the S3 cos it was a lot cheaper....but as it turned out I'm still using the S3 occasionally for M42 lenses (esp lovely old Pentax lenses) when I can't be bothered to use adapters for other cameras, so if I had originally bought the Nikon.it would be of no use to me now., esp if using handy zooms which I can use on my later Nikons.(or erm other nameless cameras).

I need to calibrate my logic sensor, its gone a bit squiffy over the last half dozen posts..:)
 
I've finally loaded a roll of Portra 800 into the AE-1 I acquired a few weeks ago. Gonna shoot some frames today but gone with the 28mm F2.8 for a change from 50mm. Excited.
 
Well I wanted a film camera but not quite what I planned. Off on holiday in July so grabbed the family scuba bag which hasn't been used in years. I know have and sea & sea mx-10 and ys 40a strobe and an unused roll of Kodak 100... May have to try it diving :)
 
You'll have to show us the results Gaz, I've been hankering at getting my AE1 out again recently but I'm minus a lens after finding fungus on my 50 :( I've noticed Ffordes have several pages of new old stock of the 28mm though which could be a good way back in for me. There's some other new old stock on there too if you fancied something different too :)

Thanks, I will do! I got it with the 28mm, 50mm and a 70-210, but the zoom is full of fungus. :( To be fair though, I am more of a prime, one lens kind of person. I feel it makes me think a little more.

Go ahead and use your 50mm, as unless you can't see thru' the lens and it's only slight fungus on the front lens..... you wont notice much difference from a clear lens.

Ryan, knowing nothing about undersea photography, this was double dutch to me! Could you possibly elaborate, as it sounds interesting...

That makes two of us knowing nothing about underwater photography, I'll get some photos up when I get home but basically a 35mm underwater camera that wouldn't look out of place with a fisher price sticker on it :)
 
Picked up a new toy today after having some birthday money burning a hole in my pocket. It's currently taking up all the free space on my small desk :( Hopefully there will be a new bigger desk soon (which i was already buying not just to accomodate a scanner :LOL: ) I'm pretty impressed with it to be honest, got some good results with some 120, just struggling with 35mm at the moment because it won't lay flat :/ Next toys include a dev tank and all that carry on :)

As for the Canon 50mm i mentioned above, it's worse than i thought and got pretty bad. The camera body itself has some green growth on it too, although it looks like corrosion as oppose to fungus :( I don't understand it's in a cool dry place :( Will the corrosion/fungus spread if left with other gear? I fear it may be too late!

Fungal spores are in the air so potentially everything is at risk if stored / packed away for a length of time.
Sunshine kills it!
So, stick the affected gear out in the sun.:cool::cool:
Affecting other gear is always a possibilty but don't get het up over it.....it aint gunna grow a fur coat overnight.!
If you have gear badly affected then i'd recommend cleaning it up and possibly keeping it seperate to your other kit but if you're using the stuff then it's getting aired so there's not likely to be a prob.;)
I've found that fungus seems to enjoy locating itself on the nylon exterriors of camera bags..........however if it finds my long winter coat first, then it has a ball ( if given a chance!), nestling itself into the wool material. :eek:
 
I've very happily just picked up an old Calumet large format camera with Fujinon 150mm & a few double dark slides :) Am absolutely ran off my feet with work so I won't get chance to have a proper play yet & unfortunately the 645 PRO has to go but I really can't wait to get out with it :) Pics to follow soon.

@Mr Will that is a very very nice looking new toy!!

A Canon 50mm FDn can be picked up for a surprising cheap price if you keep your eyes open...I saw one in the window of cash converters (about 3 years ago) for a weird price of £2.97, of course I bought it......but you might find it's just as cheap to get another 50mm attached to a camera if bidding on the bay...maybe put a wanted post in classifieds and the digi guys might have one they don't want. as they won't fit a Canon digi SLR camera.

Fisher Price, for sure, Ryan! Instructions here apparently. Looks like a fixed focus 32mm f/4.5 lens, if I've read it correctly. Focus on 2.5m on land, 1.5m underwater. Claims the lens is actually glass!!! You should have fun. :)
