OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

You'd have to be lucky. The 50mm f1.4 can sell for £40-80 on its own.

E2a: £60 sounds fair to good to me if the body is in good working order and cosmetically acceptable.

Huh! Oh well I get my stuff from the bootie at better prices ;)

So the fed arrived, and it appears to be in good enough condition. I have tested the shutter for pinholes by shining a torch through first one shutter then the other using B mode. The lens seems a bit scrappy, but aperture moves smoothly enough, there are a few scratches but hopefully nothing that will effect the image.

Tried running a first batch of film through it. Mis read the manual, disaster, ripped film apart. Shooting second roll today.

Now that is truly beautiful...... I may have to have one of those, one day, soon (ish), well maybe.

My latest Rollei... oh wait no, it's a bit on the expensive side, might give it a miss! :bonk:

That is quite close focussing though, the Planar/Xenotar of old only ever got to ~1.1metres.

it is close, and takes the close focussing box camera crown from the EC at 0.6
you do pay for it a bit at the infinity end though, it doesn't seem to do much during the last turn or so, I expect the Rollei will be linear throughout.
That bloke Micheal Zhang is a div though, there are lots of MF cameras still being made.

So not an exciting or very interesting buy from me, a John Major or Steve Davis of the film world :)
I wanted a really cheap 35m SLR with AF and having already got a 35-70mm and 50mm in EF fitting, this seemed a reasonable choice. Advice from a few in here was assimilated and at £8 for the body. I thought it worth a little gamble :) I could likely have found one cheaper but inhuman work hours this month handicapped me to on-line hunting.
Another £8 got me the flash.

The booty's this season round here have been pretty dry of film cameras, but i saw this one today and £5 later its mine. Just put a roll of b&w through it and all looks well..

This hit the mat yesterday... sadly the shutter is toast due to the release arm being broken off - posted a wanted ad in the appropriate section - but I fully intend to get the little beasty back up and running in the not too distant future, and yes, it is a whole lot worse than it looks in this pic

New covering on order even as I type this :D

That looks really wonderful! However I've never heard of it and know nothing about it. Can you say more? Did the seller clean it up like that, or did you have to? Hmm... looks like a f/4.5 taking lens?

Lubitel's are great fun. I had one about 20 years ago, it was new and cost about £15. I seem to recall that the images were rather soft around the edges. They seem to have had a revival with all this Lomography stuff (whatever that is).

I sold mine on that auction site for more than I had paid for it and replaced it with a Rolleiflex 2.8f.:)

Can't go wrong for a fiver :)

yeah its 4.5 75mm on the lens, cant say its the sharpest lens in the world but you can see what you took a picture of perfectly well :)

Not too sure of the hotshoe thing since its all clockwork, i guess there was some sort of accessory you could bolt on the side of it. Made in Russia. But it was as clean as that from the seller, cant see a mark on it, got a leather case with it too. It also had a roll of colour exposed inside it which looks as old as the camera itself so i will send it off and see what comes back.

Actually, for £5 you got a real bargain. I had a look at the Lomography.com site and they are selling them on there for £289. (I kid you not):)

Get the bleach out, it'll be fine

That's one hell of a lens, what is it?

Funny how Kodak likes naming its films after its old optical products, Ektar being named after their high end lenses and Portra being named after a series of close-up filters they produced for their Brownie and 8mm cameras!

Wow....love it!.................Nice new toy!

White vinegar will sort the fungus......used it many times on old camera lenses.

Legendary lens, Kodak really had it back in the day. Get it at with the white vinegar for sure!

Would vinegar remove any coatings? I've got a little fungus on the 524 and I think I could get at it while it's folded.

Never had a problem using WHITE VINEGAR on any of the lenses of the old folders and box cameras in my collection....I'm not aware of any issues with coatings but then i'm no proffessional.
Obviously it is entirely at your own risk but I offered the same advice to Freecom2 a while ago and I'm not aware he has had any problems....I certainly haven't!

Is that lens even coated at all?

I can't get into it, it's sealed up...unless I took a small chisel to the spot welds...hmm

Is that lens even coated at all?

Yep, it seems to be fully coated (and radioactive!) :runaway:

Oh also, the fungus seems to have no effect on the IQ anyway as it's such as massive image circle :)

one more thing.... I'm getting some boards of MDF Lasercut to fit the graflok back and then I'm mounting my 5D to it... so watch out for that when it's done! :)

What a a a fabulous machine, haven't seen one of those in years. Looking forward to seeing some shots from that.

Lovely speed graphic, I bought one with an Aero Ektar as well and was sad to send it back because its tripod mount came off due to weight.

That is a lovely looking camera. More LF goodness.

Hi Nick, bloody hot. The last few days were hell as we were eaten alive by Mossies, I'm glad to be back home though as 18 days away is just too long from all my toys.

Hope to shoot some film this week as I'm getting withdrawal symptoms (although it my be something left over by the mossies).

Awesome stuff, any chance of some decent pics of the lens board, I've not worked out how I'm fitting my Aero Ektar to the speed graphic yet. I thought the aero ektars did come apart, there is certainly a small grubscrew in the front of mine that looks to be securing the front element ring in.

Not so much a new toy as a rediscovered old one from my childhood. Not my Original proper trip, but it's cheapass replacement:

Contains film too loaded when last used in 2002, although I found this out by opening the back to see if the seals were OK so it's going to give interesting results!

From a charity shop for £3, needs new light seals, but apart from that all seems to be in working order..

Love the self portrait in the viewfinder :D

Looks fun, what are you going to use for seals?

The positions you get into just to snap an old camera :cuckoo:

I shall email a man where I got my Contax and OM10 seals from, hopefully he''ll be able to help. If not I shall cut some myself..

Edit: It came with a leather case too "woot"

Is that you we can see in the viewer??

Cool buy for £3 especially with it having a leather case too.

Never had that particular camera but shot many bog standard similar p&s 35mm cameras.....can sometimes throw out a surprisingly good result....lets see what comes from this sportsman once you get the seals sorted.

Demi. Couldn't resist it. Had a jammed shutter so got it dead cheap - simple enough to sort and now all-singing as it should :D
