OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

GAS can be seriously bad for your financial health. I'm on an FD prime mission at present with 24, 28, 50 and 135s arriving in recent weeks...

Got myself an FE2. I bought an FE a while back to dabble in what Nikon aperture priority film bodies had to offer, and found myself absolutely loving it. Quick, unobtrusive, reliable metering and buttery smooth film advance. Liked it so much I got it CLA'd (only my favourite cameras get that treatment!).

So decided that the evolution of the FE must be worth a try, so an FE2 on its way to me. Hoping its as good as I'm led to believe it is, based on the FE. Will probably sell the FE if the FE2 does live up to the hype.

I know the feeling all to well. Mind you, I've been on an FD prime mission for quite some time. Nearly getting to the point where I'm filling in gaps. :naughty:

Edit: though the chances of my finding an affordable 85 f/1.2L are looking quite slim.

I had that problem - it was only resolved with the purchase of a 3 bedroom house, rather than a 2

tut...

forethought Mark.....forethought man..

I just did a 1 1/2 to a 4 cos I need a darkroom, our lass thinks its a guest room...:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

an then she woke up..

Another F-mount item, this time the Nikon 75-150 f/3.5 Series E. A "budget"/"consumer" lens with a very professional reputation - constant f/3.5 aperture, and it's long but very compact (I think it's a 52mm filter thread). Handles nicely on both my digital and film bodies - I rarely use a tele but when I need it, it's nice to have.

Isn't that the one that was made by Kiron for Nikon? I've got the Kiron version, which is labelled as f/4 and it's a lovely lens.

I've also just bought an FE2 that should arrive tomorrow after discovering that Ffordes accept PayPal now - saves me paying fees to take my money out of PP following the sale of some old bike bits on t'bay. :D

That's the one, it's definitely no Nikkor in terms of build quality but more than adequate IMO, especially in these modern days of plastic lenses.

FE2 for me as well :)

Set of bay 1 rolleinars (1,2 and 3) in leather case with instructions for £30! Very happy bunny with that one.

A nice box of film sat waiting for me when I finally got home tonight. 6 20 sheet boxes of 5x4 Astia (3 for Woodsy though, not all mine), 1 10 sheet box of Provia 160, and some ATP1.1 120 rolls

Happy days :D

It is not in the same league as some of your beauties but it was £4 in the charity shop. Couldn't resist!!

That's a handsome looking... Minolta :D

Just kidding, you'll have great fun with it - and make sure you post some pictures from your first roll through it in the Show Us Your Film Shots thread!

Thanks,
It's bit heavy and will need time to get used to it and learn to handle it properly due to weight ....unless I find some kind of leather case for it that makes edges softer...
And need to learn to focus manually :)

Time to get out to the city again to take some photos

This was waiting on me getting home from holiday today.

I'll bet that weighs a fair bit, bit of cleaning and restoration and that would look rather minty :D

Nick,
what cameras you've got ? not really want to go and search this whole thread ;)

I only have the one large format camera, it's a Toyo

Due to the logistics of using it it's only had one outing so far, going to be using it more this summer though.

I reckoned I might strip it down and give it a wee paintjob, it's about the only camera I own which looks straight-forward enough to do this to. Not sure if painting it would devalue it though, to be honest I don't think it could be devalued from what I paid for it much!

Everything appears to work on it, the ground glass is actually ground plastic though and is dull to say the least! Fastest shutter speed on the lens is a 1/10th which seems pretty slow. Might invest in a new, wider lens soon anyway.

A few more purchases like this from members and we can ask for a large format sub forum

Sounds like a good idea!

Mixed news, I received my FE2 and it looked minty-fresh but on closer inspection the mirror buffer has broken down and left a residue on the mirror plus the light seals on the film door feel sticky so they're on the way out too.

To be fair to Ffordes, they told me to return it for fixing under warranty straight away but I'm a bit miffed as the sun's out today for the first time in a while so I was looking forward to going out to play. :(

To be clear, this experience wouldn't put me off buying from Ffordes, I've never had a problem with anything from them in the past so I'll put this down as a one-off and leave it at that.

Liking this idea!!

I will be selling my Toyo C monorail in due course which will hopefully be gratefully received by a forum member and that will add another to the list.

:D

OM 10 by hpygolucky, on Flickr

I bought three rolls of Fuji Superia 200 and the suns out...

What more could I ask for?

Don't answer that :p

There is definitely a certain excitement of getting a "new" film camera. I seem to remember buying an OM10 in the mid 80's and even got a darkroom kit to go with it but I don't seem to remember using it that much unfortunately.

I definitely seem to have caught the film bug now as just brought 2 film SLRs from ebay (Nikon FM2 & Pentax MX) and have just got received my 3rd "10 pack" of Superia 200 so hope to use this over the next couple of weeks. I'm hoping to get an OM1 or OM1n before too long but will have to try and eek out my "film photography budget" for the moment

This arrived yesterday, Bronica GS-1 complete with 60mm lens, 100mm lens, 2 6x7 backs, grip and metering prism. First film down today :)

Well, i couldn't afford any more new toys so i went and made one!
The pinhole needs a little work though, needs to be smaller. But everything else works like a dream!

Envious!.......that i don't have the practical ability ( nor patience!!) to make myself something like that.

I often surf the net for homemade shutter ideas for my old LF cameras....seen more than one that would work but need someone like you to help me build it!!!! lol

Well done to you....hope you're going to post up some results when you get the pinhole sorted and start shooting.
