OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

just that a lot of people on TP (not in F&C so much) are gear whores and not actually taking that many photos?

Of all threads to say it on... :bonk:

I know, I know. Its just the way my brain works! ;)

Mind you I trust that most stuff here will be loved and used and the owners won't worry about boxes, shutter actuations and arguing the toss with other forum users over petty things. (I'm looking at you Talk Equipment!).

There's certainly been several long threads recently where I have wanted to just write, "anyone taken any photos recently?!". The D600 thread springs to mind, as does the one about the best 50mm - dear god, some of them are painfully dull.

This landed on my doorstep this morning...

Not sure if it constitutes 'a new toy' or 'reasonable grounds for divorce'. My wife's gonna kill me when she finds out.

I'd prefer an A model but very nice.

Not a bought new toy but a home made new toy. A darkbox so that I can work with wet plate collodion without stinking the house out. Works just fine and I'll upload some images later when the varnish has dried.

I suspect your Mrs gave a sigh of relief when you got this finished!! lol

Nice job you've done though by the looks of it!

I realise you use it in a ventilated area ( ie outside) but I would still be comcerned at having my head under those covers breathing in collodion fumes....unless of course I'm missing something here ...a mask maybe??

I've got the A with the 40mm f1.4 and I think its my favourite camera, its certainly my favourite camera to look at. Yours is in stunning nick, luvverrly.

I should hope it is. It's brand new. Like I said, she's gonna kill me when she finds out!

Thought long and hard about that. Decided fully manual was the way I wanted to go. It's going to be a serious challenge. But something I'm really looking forward to. Will still continue to use my digital cameras but will use the Bessa when I want to push myself.

Thanks Asha, actually I poor the collodion whilst not under the cover, its not light sensitive at this point and you wait until the ether has evaporated before placing in the silver bath, so it does not get that smelly in the box itself.

Cheers,

Mart

Fair enough. I had an L and just couldn't live without aperture priority. This is why if I ever succumb to the big L it's gonna be a pricey experience as I'll need an M7.

If you don't need aperture priority is there any reason to go for a newer body? Wouldn't a basic R2 do everything you need?

New toy... Local pickup only bargain from a well known auction site, which turned out to be about ten minutes walk from my house :)

It's been fairly well used (by a professional sports photographer selling up his FD film gear) but it appears mechanically and optically sound. Quick tests on digikal suggest I am going to enjoy this a lot.

Also, not exactly mine, but a company that my company has just acquired owns and uses an ICG Drum Scanner (IIRC it's a 360).

Popped over today to discuss upgrading some of their other IT gear and I've been promised lessons in using it...

They do David Bailey's retouching, amongst their other clients.

The 40mm frameline and 1.0x viewfinder swung me toward the R3. An R3 would probably have resulted in getting two lenses (35mm and 50mm) - the 40mm is a nice compromise. Quite looking forward to mastering the 'both eyes open' shooting style - one day and one roll in and I still find myself squinting through the vf with my left eye.

Supposedly the vf on the R-D1 is good for this but I find it pretty weird. Used to do it with my D3 right enough.

Jammy beggar!

I have been given yet another bag of camera goodies by a relative. I know have another Pentax Super-ME, Auto-winder 50mm, 28mm, 28-80mm and 80-200mm

I've got hundreds of relatives why don't they have bags of camera goodies? Damn them.

Andy

Bought a Nikon EM yesterday in my local Oxfam Charity Shop, couldn't resist!

I doubt I would have been able to resist either ......Nice find...Looks minty!

Yeh seems to be in near perfect condition, considering how old it is! There was a bit of dirt/dust on the lens, but a quick clean with my lens cleaning pen and it looked great again. It's come with a filter too which I was pretty happy about :)

I'm meeting someone later tonight to possibly be buying a Ricoh KR-10x with lenses too :D

Hopefully you'll get some use out of them and post in F&C......do you shoot b&w and develop at home?

I plan to eventually shoot black and white, once I have ordered some good film. I don't develop at home yet no, only just started the whole 'film' scene so I still have a lot to learn.

Well you've come to the right place for help and support...... ;)

I definitely am, still finding my way around the site, but I have already found out a lot of info which has really helped :)

Just back now from collecting my other new camera, the Ricoh KR-10x! Paid £35 for the body, a Ricoh 50mm, a Pentax 135mm, an Hanimex 80-200mm, an Hanimex Flash and also a camera bag.

Needs a little clean, but all in all another nice looking camera in great condition! :) (I think i'm already obsessed with collecting camera's!)

How come I never find deals like this?!!

Collecting cameras and photography gear can become very addictive....be warned, I know from experience! lol

Although I have a collection to be proud of, I have to confess that i'm a little envious of your two purchases.....the ricoh looks to be a stonker of a bargain....well done!

Get that film bought.......

Well that is me at 4 camera's (1 DSLR and 3 SLR's!) and 9 lenses already and I only started 'photography' in December 2011  I'm gonna have to buy something to store it all in I think :)

I seem to have been pretty lucky then. The Nikon as I have said I got from a local Charity Shop and then the Ricoh just then I got from 'Facebay' (Effectively Ebay on Facebook for my local area), I posted on it asking if anyone was looking to sell any older camera's and almost instantly a guy said he was selling his beloved kit!

The film will be ordered next Friday (On payday), for now I have Cheap Kodak rolls from Poundland.

I had that problem - it was only resolved with the purchase of a 3 bedroom house, rather than a 2

haha! Unfortunatly i'm still stuck living with the parents (Can't afford to move out, I wonder why!) so I don't have the luxury of doing that :p This is the problem when you are still at college studying and are stuck with only a part time job!

I dunno, my brother in law and uncle I have done it. I keep meaning to speak to my other halfs aunt as she has an old Ziess camera she is willing to let go of

b****r spending money

Looks like you have got hold of 2 nice cameras. Glad you did not include the DSLR in your shot. It would have sickened us all - like showing a teetotaller a glass of beer.
Storage space - buy a big tent for your parents to sleep in the garden and use their bedroom for your cameras. Once you start with the modern classics your hoard will grow and grow.

I concur, I bought an ME Super and an Olympus OM2n for nostalgic reasons, I ended up with 2x ME Supers, 2x MX, 2x LX, Super A, Super Program, 4x OM2n, OM1n, OM2SP, OM4Ti and OM4T before I decided to thin them out a bit.

Got rid of all the OM stuff and an MX and just have the Pentax stuff left now. It becomes a bit addictive this GAS.

A Jobo 1500 unitank film drum and 2 spirals, realised the one on the cpe-2 i ordered was a prints drum
