Well my last aquisition was informative, but short lived. Bought a T90, as the result of a mis-directed snipe (I had 2 ebay windows open, one for the T90 and another for a lens which I fancied. Cut and pasted the wrong auction ref. into the sniper :bonk

First thing I knew about it was when I won the darned thing. Came as advertised - untested for the EEE problem - i.e. I've tested it and it's broken, but untested might make me more money! Well - I put a lens on it, and pressed the button - click, whirrr, errrk, EEE. Quelle Surprise!. Opened the back, and there was a gunky residue on the shutter - so gave it a very gentle swab with the lighter fluid/q-tip. and re-tried.click, whirrr, errrk, EEE. Reset, repeat half a dozen times, and it sprang to life. Only problem was the lens mount was squirming like a couple of ferrets in mating season. I'm betting on the fact that a bodged repair had left the lens mount loose, and failed to free the shutter. Anyway - my half hour with a functioning T90, before returning it for a full refund (now recieved!) was enough to tell me a few things...
1) I can see why Brian considers the T90 to be a cracking camera. It feels exactly as I expected it to do - the missing link between a A-1 and a EOS. Or, put another way, an early EOS that takes full advantage of those lovely MF FD lenses, but has all the modern metering etc. It's also not particularly heavy or all that bulky - at least compared to the EOS-3 or EOS-7D that I normally shoot with.
2) The example I had, was potentially a very good camera, and if I hadn't been offered a full refund, I'd probably have stumped up for a service on it, got the lens ring securely re-mounted, and had the "leader out" modification done.
3) Nice as the camera was - far nicer than I was expecting, i'll be honest - I don't think that it's really the MF body for me. When I decide that I want to shoot with manual focus lenses, It's because I want to work with the old-school camera, with all it's foibles. When I want a camera that - appliance like - "just gets the job done" I've got the EOS-3 and the 7D. I enjoy the quirks of shooting with the A-1, or the FED-3, or the Perkeo. They may not necessarilly get perfect frames every shot, but by god I really appreciate how well
I've done when I get one that is.
I think I may have inadvertently hit upon something - the phrase "Appliance Like" - BITD cameras were sold from little enthusiasts shops, with little enthusiasts behind the counter selling them, who actually enjoyed showing the customer their wares - I swear, the guy in my local camera shop when I was 16-17 almost seemed like he didn't want to part with the cameras he stocked - he just wanted to have them to play with. Now - the bulk of cameras are sold from electrical warehouses - alongside - yes - the rest of the Domestic Appliances!.
