OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

If anyone else is interested, there is a Canon A1 with lenses on ebay for £300 !!!! It is shown as eye-controlled, so that must account for its huge price. It must be a one-off, being eye controlled - must have been a prototype for the EOS 5. I think the seller means you look through the viewfinder, then focus manually, then click.

He also says it's a 'point and shoot' camera.

As Rob points out, not necessarily accurate at all. A lot of eBay sellers can be very economical with the truth. There was an old M42 Pentax body a while back which the eBay seller was selling as a 'special brass edition, sold only to dealers and collectors' or words to that effect, and I was convinced (as were many others - I believe it was posted on APUG) that it was simply a body that had a fair amount of brassing, so the owner/seller decided to use something to completely strip the rest of the body down to the bare brass.

Yes, Deckard, I agree with you - over-priced ? But there is also an aluminium case with it, and also a blower brush. Looks like a Jessop's brush, so that must be worth at least £150. And I wish certain people would stop posting re the Fed rangefinders. I remember them being advertised in the national papers here in the late 50s. Just starting work and I longed for a proper camera. They looked like the 'real deal'.

I might have believed that later on in the 80's as Pentax did do a very rare (and expensive!!) gold plated LX with matching 50mm f1.2 to celebrate being the first company to make 10,000,000 SLR's (the 10,000,000th one being the first gold plated one and presented to the chief designer who was also the chairman of Pentax at the time).

I can't quite believe that there would be an M42 camera with just brass though, unless it was a special request or something. You used to be able to ask for a motor drive connection and/or mirror lock up with the Spotmatic series but you had to have a dealer order it directly from Japan and wait 3 months so who knows...http://www.mir.SPAM/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/pentaxlx/Pentax_LX_Gold/PentaxLX_gold_Xa.jpg

It certainly wasn't an LX, and it certainly wasn't that polished - thus why I personally thought it was a fake.

Just dug up the thread, turns out it's still being peddled on eBay, it's a H3v:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200619410147

p.s. that's a revision, "The brass body exterior may NOT have been an original manufacture option, the original black finish may have been removed." was NOT in the original listing, not that I remember anyway - it still states about special edition...

I'm pretty sure thats a fake, it looks like someones buffed it so much that the paints come off, its no even uniform 'brightness' anywhere, you can even see marks on the pentaprism where someones been rubbing at it. The easy way to know would be to simply ask Pentax if they ever made a camera like that, seeing as he's been kind enough to give the serial number.

Besides I could not brass being used unprotected on a camera, its a fairly soft metal and would just wear away easily if it was not painted.

Yeah, that's why I thought it was a fake as well. I'd like to think that Pentax would've done a pretty good job of it if they were ever going to release a special brassy edition, because surely they could just pick a body from the production line pre-painting and use that. Far better than that unofficial job, I'm glad that no one has wasted their money buying it, because basically it's an extra tatty 'rough' rated camera really.

There's a very large whiff of bovine excrement over that "special edition" Pentax. Unless you count paint stripper and elbow grease necessary to make something special...

Yesterday I received a Minolta X-300 with a 1.7 50mm prime and a Miranda 70-210mm zoom :) It's bloody lovely and works like a charm. Put a test roll through it including a quick portrait of the lovely significant other and I am very impressed with the results!

If you are impressed, lets have a look then :)

Just need a 28mm lens and away ya go...maybe a Vivitar 28mm close focus if you can get it cheaper than a Rokkor MD 28mm.

The missus doesn't like the photo (she is mental!) so I daren't put it on Flickr!

Will have a look for a 28mm lens, I am on a strict budget at the moment though :(

*edit* but nobody (not even me) checks my photobucket!

I've amassed a few things over the past few months!...

Two box cameras, ( the Brownie seems to be working, the Conway's shutter is broken) Got them both for next to nothing in a boot sale and charity shop.

browniesw.jpg

The two bottom cameras were given to me by a charity shop worker was was going to bin them, very basic, but the rapid film camera had a nice empty canister in it! My beloved EF is not new, but the 851.8 is my latest Ebay acquisition.

These two lenses were given to me yesterday by a charity shop worker, I think she paid a fiver to the charity for them, the KOMURA (M42 mount)? Seems to only focus down to 7M before getting stuck. The FD mount 135 f2.8 works fine though!

Voigtländer VITO B, A beautiful camera which I don't think had ever been used when it was given to me by a family friend clearing out a relatives house. I've ran a roll of HP5 through it, but can't dev it till September!

The Twins, Two Rollei 35B's. The right one kindly given to me by John (Joxby) after I dropped the other down the stairs. :bonk: The film advance, frame counter, film door and shutter are all not quite right on the dropped one, but I don't have the heart to throw it out, it served me well for some fun street shots!

I bought the ONLY camera on show at the local car boot sale this morning! It's called Halina 1000. Little thing with a plastic lens. Not much on it to check as it's just a shutter release button and a cute little focus ring with rain, clouds and sun! Opened the back and the shutter opened and closed like it should.

Cost me 50p! When I asked the lady how much she kind of laughed at me! Put a roll of pound shop film through it at the beach today. Will see how it comes out tomorrow!

Seems like there is a lack of any sort of information about this camera online, although one did sell on Ebay for thirteen pounds!

You are picking on me again, TheBigYin, here and in private. I am off to bed in the huff. But as General McArthur said, " I will return." and probably tomorrow, if not sooner.!!!

Hell, I don't even know if the b****r works! Test roll is finished though. It could end up being a waste of my precious 50p

That won't be focus, it'll be either aperture or shutter speed or a combination of both.

Not exactly new, but i gave this beauty it's first proper clean and lube today:

The focus ring jumped after getting sand stuck in it on a trip to the beach, smooth as you like now (bike chain grease? why not :p ). I would have done the aperture ring too but i couldn't find any guides on how to do it and i didn't really want to guess. Needless to say it's a great lens, proper Soviet workmanship - a must have for M42 :D

My latest purchase, purely so I can use my Rokkor 45mm on film:

P1080480.jpg

It's actually got some rather nice features, the touch activated metering circuit is nice, the viewfinder is massive, bright and clear! (better than any other camera I've looked through!) but it is rather large and weighty.

It's sat on my windowsill with the MX airing out the smell of Tobacco from the film compartment!

I'm genuinely surprised that my cameras don't smell of fags, considering they are all 1950s-1970s cameras, I can't smell a trace on them. That said, maybe it's because I believe (maybe naively?) that everyone who owns a camera must've smoked right next to it at some point, like this advert

p.s. I love old camera adverts

I have just got this mint condition 90mm for my crown graphic from these guys. They let it go for £120 which is half the price they seem to go on ebay and the service was brilliant. Time for some sunrise minimalism...

:D

That's an intriguing poster - seems a wee bit random!

The MX must have been stored with the back open to have absorbed so much odour, I gave up waiting and dosed it with Oust! (Not sure how wise that was but it's still working shatever!) :nono:

1908 Kodal A1 in working condition. $60

Haven't played with it yet. Supposed to take the long obsolete 116 film but with a little care and attention it'll use 120.

(The pic is not mine, by the way, I haven't got round to taking any yet.

Here's my latest bits, which were given to me for free ;)

Just love how you choose to shoot a pile of Leica kit on the lid of a flaming wheelybin!

Classy

Just trying to get up to date on this page, and here we have AB22 Easy Tiger. A MACKEM -'living in Texas.' God help the Texans.!!! Mind the Texans would not know a Mackem from a Toonie. But AB22 can't be all that bad if he is a camera nut, like the rest of us.

I wonder if the Texans know what a pityacka is.

Ive just been given a pentax p30 in non working condition. No idea what the problem is but there seems to be hair inside the lens :-S
At worst, something to tinker with :-)
