OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

This could well be my latest purchase. One of the bosses in work collared me, knowing I have an interest in vintage cameras, and asked me about a 'small, tiny little camera' he had been given to sell by his son's father-in-law. Anyway, he brought it into work today so I could take a look at it and it's a Mycro IIIa. He's let me bring it home to give it a clean up but it's practically mint. The leather ERC is a little worn but it's an awesome little collectors piece!!

Deal is done, the Mycro IIIa is now mine and added to the collection! :D

'twas me... I had a pair of doc' martins as lad at school, that were all but held together with the stuff - used to wear the leather to bits on the gear lever of MX bikes

ha .. the cobblers was a wee shop tucked away in Strathaven - about 50 years behind the times with massive machines driven by belts for doing ''stuff'' to shoes - even had the old 'upside-down' metal shoe lasts [?] for nailing on new soles

thinks i need some serious chat up and a few candid B&W......:D

Still have a old iron last we use as a doorstop in the back kitchen. My grandad used to be the unofficial cobbler at the local pit - back in the days before free issue protective clothing, when all the miners used to work in clogs or heavy leather soled boots. He was always big on "proper" shoes - ones with leather soles - used to say "Spend Good money on your Bed and your Boots - 'cause if you're not in one, you're in the other"

My new toy ? A lovely Minolta Dynax 9 + VC-9 grip for the sum of £175. And that is not all, more importantly, I also received the manual, and even
more importantly ....... a MINOLTA strap.

Indeed you can't, Sigma 70-210mm for my Pentax a whopping £12.49 delivered! :D

Or Teleplus Minolta 2x Macro teleconverter £0.01 for the converter and a fiver for postage!

You Welsh are tighter than the Scots. I hope you all vote for independence and then you will not be able to bid on eebygum non-u.k.

Damn you, just came in here for a 'quick look' and now i'm considering spending money i don't have on things i don't need ;)

Then again, my ST605n could do with a clean up/new prism&light seal. Probably works out cheaper to get a new camera... i've increasingly found that 36 exposures is just far too many, especially when my developing has only had a 51% success rate. Hmm.

New seals available from a guy called John, Interslice on ebay. About £6 posted, with full instructions, easy to do, quick delivery and cheaper than a new camera, even an ST605n

Yeah, only problem then being that when checking it out a piece of light seal fell off onto the prism and left a mark that doesn't come out with isopropyl, so a new prism probably just means a new camera, but then you don't often get to check the prism first. It doesn't actually effect the images taken though, hence why i haven't bothered to do anything about it thus far.

A little more than I usually spend at a car boot sale, but this morning I spotted an EOS 650 with a 50mm f/1.8 Mk1 and Cobra 440 AFC flash. The guy was asking £30 for the lot, so I offered him the last £25 I had on me and walked away with them. :)

All seems to be in working order.

Nice price! The 650 is a nice camera and the 50mm is probably worth ~£120!

Quite. It was the lens that swung it for me. Must admit I hadn't realised until I got home that the 650 was the first EOS camera Canon made. It'll make a nice backup body for my EOS 3.

I had a 650 for a while and got some nice photo but ended up selling as most of my lenses are crop for the 7d.

Just got myself a Canon T90 with the standard 50mm lens. But if anyone is interested there are some more T90s going on ebay today. One has just gone at 2pm for £50 (without a lens)and it looked a beauty. Go on, get some housekeeping money spent and make the wife damned miserable, - that what they were born for, or at least aspire to - Miserableness.

I had a £49 bid on that one :(

Musicman, That is very hard to bear, being so near. Last Thursday I was interested in one and was following the bidding, and hoping to get it. I had to go out at 3.40pm and the auction ended at 4.10pm. I got back in with about 4 mins to spare. I did not have time to settle down and get my thoughts together, and although I went to about £70, the camera + 50mm 1.4 lens went for £98. The same thing happened today as I settled down to keep an eye on the bids, I then had to go out at 1.50pm. The T90 looked a beauty, and was boxed. I got in with 38 secs remaining and £50 bid. Again I could not get settled down and get things worked out mentally, and it went for that.

I have got to stop hoarding gear - just won a Pentax ME with SMC-M 40mm f2.8 for £42.

Was outbid on a Kiron 24mm F2 - that went for an eye watering £93, from a seller with 0 feedback who had the lens listed as Monolta fit (although image showed a lens marked PK!) - I hate Sunday ebay madness (except when selling!)

That's an absolute steal, for the lens alone (which is why you bought it, I'm guessing). That's what the smart money is on, it's often cheaper to buy a 50mm f/1.7 Pentax-M connected to one of their more rubbishy bodies than by itself!

Precisely! I already have the Cosinon version, I'll be comparing and keeping the best of the 2. The ME will go straight back on the bay after I've tested it.

Here they are my new aquisitions. The 135mm turned out to be a Focal MC product, not as nice as the Vivitar, and is going back on the bay.

The ME I actually rather like, and after taking the batteries out and cleaning some oxidation off the cover, I'm pleased to report it's functioning fine, although the quirky self timer fires the shutter before it's got to the end!

The 40mm pancake, despite having some wiffs of fungus round the front element, is a lovely little lens. Compared to my Cosinon it's sharper all round and has better contrast. The Cosinon however has an extra iris blade and smoother bokeh. Tough decision to be made!

Yes, definitely a 'mouthwaterer'. And they are not coming down in price much, the Contax rangefinder, that is. I was looking at a magazine article from the 90s when the Contax G2 was up against a Leica model. The Contax lenses were classed just as good as the Leica ones, and as regards value for money, then the Contax had the uppper hand. And the mag. was not AP.

***Wow a lovely set! Hope their not just kept in a cabinet***

Indeed......for me the camera has to go (for many times) in a backpack with other gear (inc backup camera) and I just wouldn't be happy with an expensive camera bouncing around and the paint wearing off the body because of the strap rubbing.

Certainly not. The AE-1 is near the end of a roll of XP2. The A1 is a fairly new arrival too though and needs its cough sorting. Both the A1 and the Nikons could do with new seals, the FA in particular will need to be done before I consider loading it with anything as the mirror foam has completely crumbled.

No doubt you know ...but

had my original A-1 'cough' and seals done by Miles Whitehead...great chap

Nikon EM and Canon AE-1 seal and mirror damper kits from John at Interslice on eBay
excellent kit with DIY instructions...................:D

Cheers John. Yep, thumbs up for the Interslice kits, used one on the AE-1 before and have just finished doing the FA now as the kit came today.

Got a repair chap in my area who's cleaning the shutter and aperture blades on my Olympus 35 RD at present, I'm sure he'll sort my A1 out for me.

is it possible for you to scan this magazine - would love to read what it says about the two cameras.

Glad they're used, i'm really trying to stop myself buying another FD body at the moment, I love my EF, but I do like a new toy!

wblati,
I have found the article concerned. I was slightly incorrect as it was the Leica M6 v. Contax G1. The article was in the Magazine Photo Technique, April/May 1996 (It was a bi-monthly publication) It was a brilliant magazine but is no longer published.
Specifications & Value for money Leica M6 *** Contax G1 ****
Handling & Viewfinder Information Both ****
Performance & Pictures Leica M6 ***** Contax G1 **** and a half.
The article was written by Joel Lacey, and that if money was no object then he would go for the Leica, but he gave the Contax a glowing report.
I am new to all this computer technology, etc., but I do have a flatbed scanner which can do photos and articles, so I will have a go at scanning the 6 page article.
However, in the meantime, perhaps if you google 'Photo Technique' and/or Joel Lacey, you may get details.

My Canon 17-85mm Is Usm packed up while in Scarborough & york early last week for 4 days, so i popped into jessops and used this excuse to buy the 24-70mm F2.8L i have been dreaming of for so long.

I did ask the guy if they could do me a better price that the £1159.00 is was marked up at. He came back and knocked of £130 just for asking, i am glad i did as it was a great saving that he wasn't coming forward in offering me before i asked for it.... i later found out he matched their online price.

I usually stay away from jessops as they have always seemed pretty uninterested, unhelpful and far more expensive that online stores, on this occasion they guy in the shop was brilliant, he answered all my question with ease and seemed interested and knowledgeable.

I was put off buying this lens when i bought my 7D middle of last year from Wilkinson cameras, it isn't the right lens for that camera i was told.

I do realise that i have lost a fair bit from the wide angle end of the range but i still think is an awesome bit of kit that i am chuffed to bits with.

Lovely lens  Would love one for my EOS-3, but budgetary constraints meant that I had to go for the F4 trinity
