Official Fuji X-Pro 2 thread

Tried some street recently in Barcelona, I don't think I'm cut out for it. Anyway I quite liked this one, it's a 50% crop, I used my 18-135mm on my X Pro2 the whole time. Converted to mono with Silver Efex Pro2. I took so many shots in 3 days, it'll take me an age to sort and PP them. The jpegs look good but I can't shot a straight shot to save my life !

Really like that one. The subject helps [emoji3]

That's a great street style shot Jim, well composed, with a good mono conversion.(y)

George.
Thanks George, I'd love to do street well, but I don't have the cojones to go up close and personal, so it's long lenses for me, which kinda defeats the point. But I played a lot of rugby in my youth so a slap on the jowlers for my troubles wouldn't be anything new o_O

Hi Jim - what's the 18-135 like on the xpro 2 sensor? I love it on the xt1 - it's sharp enough for a lot of situations. I'd hate to think it would underperform if/when I get an xt2!

For the price of an xpro2 I've got an xpro1, xe1 and xt1 + plenty of change. I know it's three bodies but it means I can keep the 27mm on the xe1, the xpro1 gets the 35 f1.4 or 18mm left on it and the xt1 finds a home with the 18-55 as well as my other primes. Each camera has a purpose and together they pretty much do everything I need and what an xpro2 can do without having to constantly mess about with lenses.

I would love an xpro2 though although I'd probably trade the xt1 in for an xt2 and the xe1 for an x100s/t before ever getting an xpro2. The way I use my xpro1 just doesn't warrant the upgrade + the way the xpro1 renders is just gorgeous!!

For the time being GAS is being held at bay but as with anything how long will that last?!

For me it was a bit of a meh lens on my X-T1 it was ok but nothing special, I was considering selling it. I was in Barcelona in June, brought the 16-55 and the 35mm F2, I used the 16-55mm most of the time, but I was on holiday( kind of) so I had a few drinks and to be honest the 16-55mm was heavy, I missed the OIS and the reach of the 18-135mm.
Last week I was back in Barca and was determined to go light so I brought the 18-135mm and my X70, the 18-135mm on the X Pro2 was a revelation, perfectly balanced, I was able to take low light shots thanks to the OIS, it's not the last word in sharpness, but it is, in my opinion the perfect travel lens.
I was surprised with the X70 but not how I expected, it was just ok during the day, but at night it was fantastic, I didn't expect the lowlight shots to look so good. I didn't use it much, I was happy to carry my X Pr0 2 with 18-135mm. Long story short, I'll not be selling the 18-135mm, I've pre-ordered the X-T2 so I'll see how the 16-55mm performs on it, but I think I may sell it on.

Does the new X-Pro2 use the same sensor as the X-Pro1 anyone know ?
It's still an X-Trans sensor, but it's 24 megapixels instead of 16, and it's an upgraded processor.

It's awful Peter, you definitely don't want one. I've seen the horrendous shots of that dreary Scottish landscape you've taken with the X Pro 1 so I can only guess at how hideous they'd look on the 24MP sensor.

It doesn't

The x-pro2 sensor is (depending on how you want to count it) 2 or 3 generations newer

The X-Trans sensor is a Sony chip.

So Fuji went, 16mp chip for X-Trans I and II, then 24mp for the X-Pro2

But Sony went 16mp, then 24mp (as per the A6000) which Fuji seem to have skipped, then a derivitive of the 24mp chip found in the A6300, now found in the X-Pro2

Im getting a XT2 do you guys think the Pro2 would make a good 2nd body, what can it offer that the xT2 cant? thank you

I currently have both, theres very little in it, the main differences are the Optical Viewfinder and the more rangefinder type body style, personally I'm intending to keep the X-Pro 2 to use with a prime as my "smaller" camera!

This is what I am planning on doing too, everything up to the 56mm will go on the X-Pro2, everything above (90/50-140/100-400) will go on the X-T2.

The X-T2 has a better EVF but I prefer the layout/handling of the X-Pro2. The X-T2, like the X-T1, can feel a bit cramped at times but for the times when you need it then the X-T2 does have more power/functionality and balances better with larger lenses, especially if you add the grip.

In terms of AF, I can't notice a huge difference in AF-S but the X-T2's AF-C modes do seem to perform well, not top-end DSLR levels in my view but good enough for most people.

I feel pretty happy owning both, especially with Fuji's track record of releasing new features via firmware updates (my Sony RX1 is still languishing on v1.00). Fuji are unlikely to replace either model for 2-3 years, maybe more, so owning both makes sense to me as I have enough lenses that running 2 bodies is very handy.

When you say "smaller" presumably you're comparing the X-T2 with the grip attached ? I'd forgotten how small the X-T's feel in the hand after using the X Pro 2 exclusively for several months. It feels great with the grip attached, but it kinda defeats the main raison d'etre of mirrorless i.e smaller size. When the Lens mate thumb grip is released I'll be buying one and I know from owning the X-T1 it makes a huge difference in the handling of the camera.

I guess Chris means that the X-Pro2 pairs more nicely with smaller lenses (beyond 56mm the OVF becomes somewhat unusable) whereas the X-T2's strengths lean it towards the larger ones. That's certainly my plan, the X-Pro2 w/35mm is a delicious combination, I'll probably run that most often with the X-T2 sporting either the 90mm or 50-140mm.

Obviously the X-T2 is more than capable of handling the smaller lenses too but I have severe GAS so the differing strengths help me justify owning both cameras :D

Do you think they'll ever find a cure for GAS ? Do we even want one ?

I think you're confusing cure with exacerbate

I wonder why Fuji are waiting until October to release the improved AF firmware update, should've been released same date as X-T2 release I would have thought ?

Side by side for a single shot, reasonably static subject does it make much difference?

I wouldn't have thought so, it's just not like Fuji not to be on the ball with updates. And it's an expensive camera so I'd like it to be (almost) as fast as the X-T2 in the AF department. Plus I'm an impatient grumpy old git :grumpy:

I forget the X-Pro 2 is quite big on its own, I haven't had the battery grip off the XT2 yet as I like the extra grip and it saves me having to buy a metal handgrip (never liked the "naked" XT1 handling),

How nice the X-Pro 2 is with the primes is actually not helping my lens selection, if I just had the XT2 I would probably go zoom only and keep the 23mm for when I want to go smaller, but keeping both leaves me open the flexibility to stay with primes.
Was looking for another 16-55 but might just keep the 16 and 23 and add either a 35 or 56, would really like something a little wider and that could be the 10-24.

The 16-55mm feels much better on the gripped X-T2 compared to the X Pro 2, don't you think ?. I reckon I'll move on my 35mm F2 when the 23mm version comes out, and keep it on my X Pro 2 most of the time.

I think that's what I will end up doing, too. The T2 balances really well with zooms, the Pro2 less well because with that camera you don't hold it as centrally to your face.

I've gone for a s/h xt1 as a 2nd body, I sort of regret it as the xt2 has blown me away but it is just a 2nd shooter and I only take around 10% of my shots on it!

I have sold my D750 and my other kit to go mirrorless. Main reason was to cut down on size and weight. In the camera shop I was set to go for the A7mk2 but decided to have a look at the X-Pro2, held in my hands and knew instantly this was the right camera, didn’t even bother looking at the A7mk2 (I did have an A7 so knew what to expect).

Walked out with the X-Pro2 and 35mm f2, nice small combination. Have the 56mm and 18-55mm coming next week. Intending to get the 23mm 1.4 when funds allow. Loving the camera, the jepgs are simply gorgeous, even PP in Lightroom is good.

Hopefully I’ll put it through its paces this weekend.

You'll love the 18-55. Punches way above its weight. Welcome to Fuji!

What he said  I sold mine when I bought the 16-55, I re-bought one not long after. It's a great little lens.

One from my recent trip to the Yorkshire Dales. St Michaels church at Linton Falls. An HDR, using Aurora, of 3 shots with the X-Pro2 and 14mm. Hand-held, ISO 4000

Well thats my X-Pro 2 officially gone today, I've not really picked it up since my XT2 arrived a few weeks ago but despite me knowing its better to have the money in my bank than sitting in an unused camera body I'm actually quite sad to see it go.
The X-Pro 2 got me back into photography this year, I don't think I'd still be on the forum if I hadn't bought it as I had really fallen out of enjoying taking pictures.
Its a great bit of kit to use and just feels like a very high end but of kit but ultimately for most of what I do (landscapes/travel) the XT2 is just that little bit more suited to my shooting, and with the battery grip its brilliant with the larger zooms that I tend to use when landscaping.
I've had some of my favourite ever shots out of the X-Pro 2 and while I know the XT2 is more than capable of matching it theres just something a little magic about the X-Pro and its the first camera I'd actually grown attached to in a very long time!
I think once I decide whether drone photography is for me and have a little more cash I'll probably get another one, with the 23mm f1.4 it was the perfect travel companion!

i have to say imo the pro 2 is quintessentially fuji. i find it an absolute joy use. it feels so well built, especially with the hand grip attached.
sounds likes it must have been a tough decision to let the camera go.
