Official Fuji X-Pro 2 thread

Do any of you X-Pro2 owners use the OVF for regular shooting in preference to the EVF, and I don't mean for just street shooting, but everything - landscape, stills, architecture, portraits etc?

Apart from the fact that you wouldn't be blinded on a sunny day, any other advantages?

I rarely use the OVF, I much prefer the EVF. Battery life should improve using the OVF and you have the advantage of seeing what is about to appear in frame.

I don't really do landscape, but I use the OVF a lot, as good as the evf is (and it is) the ovf is a real time, zero lag view of the real world, I like this for portraits or if I want to capture the exact moment that something happens

This is probably just me, but I have a "gift" (sic) with architecture whereby I can make any building look wonky, SOMETIMES the ovf helps me to try and get the perspective right... (EVFs are ultimately a 2D representation of a 3d object)

I'm a big OVF fan, to me it's the draw of the x-pro range, the beauty of the XP2 (imo) is that in EVF mode, it's perfectly workable, so you get the best of both worlds.

FWIW the XP2 evf may not be as big as the XT1, but it's hardly illegible and the refresh rate is better. That said EVF fans are probably better served by the XT2.

I'm not a fan of flash, but on the rare occasions I use my i40 on the Pro2 it's on Auto, so the EVF is very dark. I can never be bothered switching off the preview pic mode, so the OVF is invaluable for framing.

Do you find it ok without stabilization? People make a big deal about the 16-55 not having it. I don't see that as an issue but with the 90mm i'm not sure?

Coming from a Sony a7rii everything seemed a bit shaky to start with. Ibis was one of the reasons I stuck with Sony and didn't make the Fuji switch earlier.

I think it's just a case of getting used to it and using it in the right situation. I now use this lens for most of my portraits - unless the light is low and I'll the grab the 56.

But the 90 is my most used Fuji lens. I love how close you can focus with it. And it's fast.
As for the 16-55 - I have that too and it's great.

I don't know if any of you folk can answer this for me, but I'm considering adding an X-Pro2 unit to my Fuji equipment. I just wondered if when using the OVF is it possible to change the frame lines manually. ie if I were to put say a 35mm Nikkor manual lens on via an adapter which obviously wouldn't have any electronic information passing to the camera, would I be able to adjust the OVF frame manually to the same coverage as if the 35mm Fuji lens were mounted on the camera ie approximately 50ish mm field of view.

Appreciate it if anyone could answer this for me.(y)

George.

You just have to change the mount adapter setting to the focal length of the lens you are using, worth doing anyway to record the focal length in the Exif. This will change the bright frame to match your lens.

:agree: Like wot he says.

Anyone on the Fuji threads from Settle or nearby? We're hoping to move back up in November and it would be good to meet up.

Tried some street recently in Barcelona, I don't think I'm cut out for it. Anyway I quite liked this one, it's a 50% crop, I used my 18-135mm on my X Pro2 the whole time. Converted to mono with Silver Efex Pro2. I took so many shots in 3 days, it'll take me an age to sort and PP them. The jpegs look good but I can't shot a straight shot to save my life !
