No
This is to carry on from my attempt at being sugar free.

14 Days since the full frontal assault against Sugar and I have to report a loss of 8LBS, proper sleep and a better well being ( I did hit the wall around day 8)

It has been pointed out on the previous thread about the pros and cons of my madness.

This is what I have discovered/ decided on.....

It is extremely hard to avoid all sugar ie fruit, honey etc but this is good sugar to an extent ....Moderation

It is impossible to live totally sugar free so therefore certain foods are being allowed such as wholemeal breads

The big NO-NO is processed food, crisps and sweets...... such as the cheap packets of chicken breast etc.......

I do have 2 nights a week that I allow wine and a treat. I have found it very acceptable now that I have found my feet. Long may it last (y)

:) started the no carbs/sugar diet 2 weeks ago, living off veg, salad, spinach and chicken, lots of water......weight loss of 1st 2lb to date, the 1st week was murder.

I've done 10 days with no sugar before and felt great, actually went vegan, had no sugar, alcohol, caffeine for 10 days! Was like total abstinence but blood sugar levels were very stable.

You should watch the horizon programme about sugar and fat. Medical effects of no carbs at all seem to be quite serious.

Avoiding processed crap is always a good idea though!

I did watch horizon.....post of the reason I decided that you cannot be totally sugar free..... I think the secret is not eating processed stuff, food full of preservative or cheap food as it seems to have more sugar than more expensive food....

Diet and low fat alternatives are also full of sugar too.

I got myself a soup maker. Its brilliant. Chuck in lots of veg and get hot soup in half an hour.

Last word on line five of the OP is the important one - moderation!

Not burnt anything onto your soup maker yet, Suz? Renders them u.s. and not a warranty problem... Saucepan and stick blender works for me.

I've got one of them, it's called a pan :)

Nope. Put some stock in the bottom before adding ingredients. Doesn't stick or burn on then. I always soak it straight away so nothing stays stuck if it ever does stick.

I used to use a pan and then liquidise it as I don't have a stick blender and its awkward carrying a heavy pan of soup about. Onion I'd still do in a pan as it needs to be done slowly.

The Jelly I use as only 0.15g of sugar per serving and I only eat it on cheat night... (y)

Saucepan for Mediterranean Tomato and Garlic soup

Some people can have problems with some of the metabolites from Aspartame but some people can have problems with almost anything! Sugar free Haribo gummy bears spring to mind (although their effect seems fairly universal...)

The Horizon programme stated as fact several things which are far from settled science. They fully bought into the lipid philosophy (fat causes heart disease), dismissed Lustig and Yudkin's research on sugar (and speaking as a cyclist, their cycling test was a joke). The conclusion was good (don't eat processed foods), but the science was questionable in about every other area. I'd recommend doing your own research before deciding on amount of sugar to eat.

There are lots of critiques around, the below is just one.

Horizon Sugar vs. Fat - bad science!

Well done to all those that are sticking to this - I think the OP has it right though - I am 3 days in and struggling like mad this time around - I think my addiction has been re-established over Christmas.......

Keep on going....

Flap jacks, chocolate, porridge with syrup, home made Victoria sponge, various puddings, 1/4 teaspoon sugar in tea, Cappuccino, I eat all these things in moderation although not every day. :)
I have lost nearly 4 stone since last April plateaued for over the last 6 weeks-ish. renewed efforts have just kicked in this last week to reach my 13.5 stone target hopefully by April, I did this by following a two day fasting diet that has also re configured my thinking about food in general. Can't think of one food I have given up totally just EAT LESS IT WORKS. No idea what my blood sugar level is but the periodic body shakes have ceased. I chose this diet as only two days in seven have any impact on my will power, and therefore less chance of giving up. I and select my food with more thought and is now second nature not over eat but still enjoy all my favorites to some degree.

My aim was to lose weight, the added bonus was it re-wired automaticly my brain to check what I was actually eating, never ever believe any of the low fat..diet...low cal claims etc always read the labels on the food to see what is in it.
I realise this digresses from the op just giving my experiences an airing, it has not been a dramatic weight loss but I'm sure the longer timespan has been the main factor in changing my eating style as crash diet's are for the iron willed.
Personal facts at age 30 I weighed 13.5 stone...at 55 I weighed nearly 18 stone, now 60 years of age 14.5 stone and a lot more active.
Good luck to you all, now where is that freshly baked Victoria sponge?

Adendum :- put some money aside for new clothes as you will look a a duffer in your old "too big" clothes. :)

The sugar free jelly is a life saver....when I am struggling for a "fix" I eat a couple of spoonfuls to act like a placebo and fool my taste buds.....also I keep proper extra strong mints in my glove compartment for when jelly not available.....they have sugar I know but as a stop gap in an emergency they are a God send'....:D
