Hi all,

I have finally done it!
I have processed my very first film at home.

Ilford Delta Professional 400 using Ilford chemistry.

It has taken me a while to gather all the equipment, lots of research and a whole lot of talk, much to my wifes consternation but the ball has now started to roll.

To tell you the truth I was extremely nervous about it all before I started. I was checking, double checking and triple checking that everything was in place.

The main concern for me was getting the roll onto the spiral to start with but that went like a dream.

I had all the chemistry ready and at the required 20˚C and in went the ID-11.

This part of the process seemed the longest 9.5mins ever.

Anyway after all said and done, I am very, very happy with the results.

Only the last 4 frames of the roll are bad, which with my camera are the first 4 shots that were taken, so could have been an issue with loading or something.
3 of the four look like they have wishy washy bands vertically down them and the last frame has 4 horizontal dots, like pin wheel damage.

Having said all this the film was essentially a practice film and I got 32 out of 36 very good exposures.

All I need now is to get a scanner, (Epson V500), and upload a few to my flickr account.

One question I do have is how do I stop the sections of 6 negs from curling?

I have placed them in an archive and placed a large selection of heavy books on them for the moment to try to take the curl out.

Regards.

a very happy Kirk :woot:

well done ,,welcome to the world of film .

oh and of course Steves quite right ,, you NEED an enlarger ,,,in fact its the law

No.

Now you need an enlarger!

Steve.

I would love to but haven't got the room for a full on darkroom unfortunately.

Usually just hanging them up to dry does it.

I have a set of paterson film clips. The red one goes at the top and hangs on something convenient, the black one is weighted and clips on the bottom keeping the film straight.

If you don't have clips, a few clothes pegs will work.

Steve.

Yeah, I have Paterson clips, maybe I didn't hang the film long enough, newbie 'n all.

well done ,,welcome to the world of film .

It feels great!

Regards

Kirk :)

It is. It was passed yesterday:

Enlarger In The Home Act 2009

Every citizen of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland who processes their own film must own or have access to a fully working enlarger.

My drying process is to run the showing during the fix stage, turn it off, hang hooks over the shower rail, bulldog clips in the hooks and bulldog clips on the bottom of the film.

The shower introduces water particles into the air which binds with dust and helps it settle.

I leave the film hanging for a couple of hours. It normally comes out flat!

Oh, and congratulations! Good feeling isn't it?

Well done KJ welcome to the world of film

Don't worry about El' Presedente Steve Smith :p, there are few of us on here who use scanners.

Mind you scanners :suspect: do bring a whole new world of fun/pain

Cheers for informing me of the new law Steve, I am considering putting a darkroom conversion down on my expenses right after I get my moat cleaned out! lol.

The bathroom is the place I chose to hang the film, cool and damp, to keep the dust down.
And yes, it is a great feeling, I can't wait to do more.

Yeah, each to their own.
When I have the space and finances I will get round to printing, although I will still use a scanner for uploading and sharing though, the best of both worlds maybe.
:)

Lets see them then!

As soon as I can.

Great feeling isn't it? :)

I use our utility room since it's in the cellar and nice and dark (so long as himself does not forget and put the bloomin' light on)

Not done it for a couple of months now and I feel the urge....................................................I may be some time....................................................................

Further to my first film processing, today I tried two films at once in the same tank.

I thought I would bite the bullet and go for it.

Absolutely amazing outcome, I am so chuffed.

I will get some images up as soon as possible as I have one of those big birthdays coming up soon and have asked family for money only so I can buy a scanner.

I feel like I am walking on a cloud at the moment.

My brother who is getting married in July has asked me to take some non-posed/off the cuff photos at his wedding, black & white, of course. He is having the standard wedding photographer but just wants more informal pictures also, I can't wait.

Cheers. :woot:
