Nikon users get revenge...

I just died a little inside. I realise this was the kind thing to do since it keeps us with quality items and not messing with the reputation etc. But can I just say, Canon users will not let this stand. I say we go get some shiny Nikon's and go play cricket or the like. Anyone else?

Quite the opposite for me, a feeling of euphoria :D.

That's mean. Having you now said that it now makes me happy that someone obliterated a D700 and 24-70 in the Uni studio the other week after dropping it off the top of a ladder while trying to hand it to someone. HA!

I like the comments in there

"Why did they have to destroy it? Why not sell for 1/1000 the price. Or better yet, give it for free. They could have donated it to third world countries."

right..and what are 3rd world countries going to do with a Pro DSLR?

It would be difficult for them to be able to use a pro-dslr this is true. But even harder to use broken pro-dslr's, lenses, camcorders etc. It truely is retardation at it's highest in some of those comments. I especially enjoy some of the rage some people are expressing.

that picture really hurts!!
but, the reason why theres no pix like this from Nikon, they're happy to sell on broken items to the public cos they'll never realise!

Either that or Nikon kit is rugged enough to survive being transported and stored without breaking  :exit:

See, now this is not surprising to me, i always thought canon stuff was made a bit under par :D

As a Nikon man, this doesn't make me happy. Money to shoot Nikon or free to shoot Canon, not really a tough decision.
It's just sad to me that they couldn't repair them and sell them as refurb. Or was it just cosmetic? Staff sale maybe?
I just can't imagine that smashing it all up was the best solution.

I got some extra large golf tees and a few clubs to bring along too :)

all joking aside, if i was working there, canon or not i just couldn't smash it up!!

I've got that feeling I get when I watch men get hit in the danglies by a football on you've been framed......sort of sick and sad at the same time.....:shake:

no, its absurd!! there must be a better way! surly destroying all this puts the prices up on the fit-for-sale items??

All i am going to say is i am glad i dont live in that area and i am glad i did get the nickon and not the cannon

They should sell the stuff.. like a photographic equivalent of broken biscuits. Sell a box of broken and malfunctioning DSLR's and lenses for £50 or something :D

I don't know what to make of that

Out and out madness

If you don't like Canon don't buy it or use it

I think Canon win with this anyway

Another 1/2 million dollar of sales to boast about and it gained the full attention of the Niker users

:canon::canon::canon:

If the last paragraph in the article is to be beleived, it makes perfect sence.

Why allow sub-standard stock into the market place, where it will drag down the brand name and lower prices allong with taking some sales from full price kit... the bits will be recycled and have a new lease of life anyway.

Still good though :exit:

Haha, this is why I love the brand war banter.

If that was the case I think most of my kit would be made up of 'broken biscuits'

They could also sell them off to an eBay dealer who would list them as 'spare'/'needs repair' and they would sell like hot cakes. Much more economical, but what do I know

Sometimes it's just not cost-effective to dismantle and repair stuff like that - the time it takes to do all that outweighs the unit price of the item (that's what it cost Canon to manufacture, not the price we pay for the damn stuff!).

I had to do a similar thing once with a load of film cameras and lenses - it wasn't economical to send them back to the depot after we made the final transition to digital, so the bosses issued a local destruction order and we smashed up about 200 Nikon FM2n bodies, about 100 F90x bodies and the lens 'kits' that came with them - 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 105mm, 135mm, 300mm and 600mm lenses (only five 600mm lenses though and I 'rescued two of those that were in mint condition).

Some of the kits I managed to pass on to a local college, along with some Jobo processors, a Gretag processor, eight DeVere 504 enlargers and loads of darkroom kit: dev tanks, trays, tongs etc.

At least three people on this forum benefitted from that...lol

don,t worry its all covered on the insurance, shop just orders new stock.

Even I, a hardened Nikon man thru and thru, that hurts.. :(

**** the third world I want some

good on you arkady, any more of that going on I could do with some Droom supplies

It's a bit like working at the Royal Mint and burning used banknotes (or whoever actually does it on their behalf). :'(
