Nikon users get revenge...

Not sure that this is quite as it's portrayed :suspect: I saw this ages ago and think it was more to do with a "customs / tax" thing  Could be wrong

That has got to be one of the most painful series of pics i'ver ever seen in my life...
just.... OUCH...
I'd sell my soul for just a few items from that lot!.

Some of those parts/cameras looked in fine condition. Surely canon would have them shipped back and taken apart properly so they could re use the parts? Seems like its costing them alot of money imo

Costing LOT OF MONEY? Nope.

I haven't seen the pics/clip because my computer won't allow it. Guessing at the content from other mentions above. Several possible reasons:
1. Confiscated contraband being destroyed.
2. Stolen property being destroyed (although now quite a lot gets sold off at Government auctions, including Customs sales).
3. Sunstandard items being destroyed.....which if left to get out could get into the hands of unscrupulus dealers who sell the kit as first quality....then cut and run, ruining Canon's image (I was going to put reputation, but thought image would be a better pun). What cost then? The actual cost, at manufacture, of that kit is minimal compared to retail price.
Manufacturer to wholesaler/distributor 20% margin plus shipping plus local import taxes.
Distributor to retailer/dealer = 20%.
Retailer to final consumer at the moment about 10% plus VAT (hence little discount being offered).

So, a £3000 lens at retail costs the manufacturer about £1000 to make. Not such a large sum as you might think.

That 400mm smashed up is sickening, but ah well it's only glass and plastic!

The research and development into lenses is a cost as well though. I mean the Bugatti Veyron is a relative snip at £1 million when you consider each cost £5 million in R&D costs. Think I read the large telephotos (300mm f/2.8 etc) cost $11 million in R&D. Don't know how much is made on these lenses, but optical glass isn't cheap I'd imagine.
