Since deciding to get an 18-105 lens I've also been looking to get a D90 kit as once I've sold my current kit the full kit is only a fraction more than the lens itself. I know the D90 is due for replacement soon and no details are known but can anyone hazard a guess at a rough launch price?

I can get the D90 kit new now for £680 with cashback, if the replacement isn't likely to be much more I'll wait if not I'll get the D90 now. I guess it will be similar to the D90's launch price but I have no idea what that was!

I'm in no rush but dont want to wait only to find that the new model is out of my range and the D90 is hard to get hold of.

Spot on Mike

I wouldnt worry too much about waiting the D90 is such a capable camera any improvements they make are likely to be marginal at best.....and for certain the price will rise.

There might be something coming this year but the D90 and D700 are not planned on being replaced ;)

How about a D90 with a 3 inch!!! animated screen?????

£749 on launch day, thats what I paid. I would rather see a FF D300 style camera, unlikely I know. If a new D90 was launched what would it have?

More MP, probably. Better ISO performance too. Aside from that I cant think of anything else... even if fps increased it would make little difference to Joe Bloggs.

lol three hits in one :)

only cos i read slow

Nikon's new continuous autofocus in video mode (as detailed here), and I'd like to see a better microphone or support for external microphones. I'm guessing they will include the air-flow dust system which now seems standard (it's in the D5000 and the D3000, but not the D90). Possible 1080p video that you can record for more than five minutes? That'd be a winner for me.

They could call it the....... D700 maybe :D

Brain not working today!!!

What I would like, is a FF camera around the D300 price band (I know, thats a SH D700 !). Just cos I cant stretch to a D700!

The problem is that the sensor is 2.5 times the area so if you get a circle and draw these rectangles onto it you might get 3 times as many crop sensors as full frame sensors per silicon slice. So maybe 8 against 24. NOW we randomly drop 1-2 faults per slice and instead of 6 we might get 6 or 7 full frame sensors against 22-23 crop sensors {sorry I have not got the exact figures but this gives you an idea}.

This gives you an idea of WHY they are rather more expensive and that is only the sensor.

sounds like a dream ! I would have it instant if I had the funds. I want a sony slr with a good a/f video, but when will that come ? :| :runaway:

Its Nikon RUMOURS as in DONT KNOW BUT LETS MAKE SOMETHING UP!

Nikon are NOT replacing the D90 this year and this is from the stable boy's mouth. (rather than the horse!)

The NR performance of the D700 comes from it being FF which the D90 replacement WILL NOT HAVE when it comes out next year!!

Even the D300s and D700 do not have 8fps unless you attach the grip!

Its just a general wish list.

I know what is happening but have been sworn to secrecy..... The Nikon range will still include the D90, D300s and D700 in January but another camera will join them BEFORE THEN (but I don't know WHEN).

Thats just not going to wash on here Darren, so spill the beans now :D

This thread is a little amusing in light of recent (and upcoming!) announcements.

Still asking myself the OP's question. Can't wait to see solid details on the new beast.

There is no current replacement for D90, so get out there and buy one :)

The D7000 was announced today which sits between the D90 and the D300s in terms of functionality.

16.3MP, magnesium alloy body, 39 point AF with Auto Tune, ISO6400 + 2 stops, HD Video and all the other gumph you would expect of a new DSLR these days.

About £1000 though which is a whole lot more than a 2nd hand D90 body.

The reality of the situation is this, the D90 will sell out and be discontinued soon and a replacement for the D300s and D700 will come out next year probably called the D400 and D800 (or whatever). These will probably sit above the D7000 and below the D3s in price giving us 7 different models to chose from with 3 consumer models Dx000, 2 pro models Dx00 and 2 large pro models D3x/s

The top consumer model already has a lot of D300s beating specs!

Guess it all comes down to your budget, D90 is a lot cheaper than D7000. Doubt the quaity would be much better when it comes down to the images, do you require the video mode, 39 point AF is impressive though. Are these things worth almost £400 more to you?

The only thing I wish I had from the D7000 is AF fine tune. My 35mm and 11-16mm are both spot on, whereas my 50mm and 18-200 both backfocus slightly

Whoops, looks like you were wrong sir !
D7000 anyone?

Nope, just re-read that and it's all correct. Which bit do you think is wrong?

Edit: I even said the new camera coming out would be called the D7000 in another thread and that it would sit along side the D90 for a short time before that body was dropped. I did however say that they might change their mind and drop the D90 after all but that I did not have that information.

Exactly, I watch stories on Nikon Rumours and Apple Rumours sites with much amusement. If you read stories from a year ago about imminent releases you will see how wildly inaccurate they are. It is even more amusing when you actually know what is going to happen 3 months before it does and watch people making wild speculations. What I stated above was all correct although when I did say it Nikon still had chance to change their minds on stuff. It's all about the market. The D7000 is a cracking camera and should pretty much kill off any D90 market other than a few things which the D90 has like the focus motor (unless my information about that was wrong - I haven't read the full review yet just glanced down the specs to check I was not given duff info which I wasn't). Anyway it all points to some pretty impressive new kit coming 2011/12 with the D400, D800 and eventually D4

This is the post you denied. 4/6 things on this list are true. Just face it, mate. You got it wrong. Everyone gets it wrong now and then. It's just funny how angry you seemed to be about people believing the rumours might come true.

Can anyone confirm the D7000 doesn't have a built-in focus motor? I can't see that info anywhere...
