That's a nice shot of your dog Peter.(y)

"It's a breed of dog I've always wanted but unfortunately with so much travelling I have to do it just wouldn't be right to keep any pets".

I've been playing around with some new "Low Powered" studio lighting as our normal stuff is just far too powerful to use for close-upish product type of shots without using ND filters etc which I don't want to use. These were lit just using an overhead Softbox, with a Silver Reflective umbrella (just off camera axis) to give a tad more sparkle and bring out a bit of texture.

Ok, on the PC now. I guess if the difference between getting a shot and not getting a shot was having to use 6400 then fair enough, but in all honesty it's had a lot of PP work done. The branch looks terrible and some mega sharpening has been done on the bird... :exit:

Glad you like it :)

Just a dusted off Macro/Close-up shot that I thought might be worth an airing.

I like that George, the reflection adds to the photo.

D800 is a beast of a camera still ! Much prefer it over the D750 cameras I had (3 of them)

That's very nice Anthony, well composed with some great light.(y)

George.

Thanks George

I think the other photographers thought I was crazy, drone in the sky with controller over one shoulder and a D800 over the other shoulder haha. Beautiful location

:D:D Whatever works for you then go for it. That's my philosophy.

Where is the location? Looks great

Mussenden temple, Northern Ireland (Downhill Demense)

Amazing spot but always got quite a few togs up during the golden hour

Will be making a journey up again soon as my filters for the drone only just arrived earlier today !

Loving that image Alastair, but I think a lot more space above the left horse, if you went to enlarge that image you'd be cropping the top off the head etc...
Only my tuppence worth input.

Regards;
Pete

ill have to nip back down again ,,, pain staking to edit thou

So there I was just photographing a few eggs, you know the way we do at Easter Time, when the warmth from the modeling lights must have caused one of them to hatch.:D:D. So I called it "The Great Escape".

That's cracking George.

Bet your getting bored with all the eggy comments on the other thread from clowns like me. Seriously though, a good photo for this time of year.

In other news, Wex phoned me earlier to say they have processed my D750 and lens and will issue my credit. Will order the D810 in the morning, as it may be cheaper;), thinking of adding a Peak Design Slide Summit strap as a treat to myself. Anyone use this version on their D8xx bodies, if so any thoughts?

Link to strap, is it the same as the normal slide strap?

Edit: Right link to strap. http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-peak-design-slide-summit-edition-camera-strap-lassen/p1579539

Many thanks Simon, always appreciate your comments.(y)

"I love all the banter, particularly on a bit of a nonsense fun shot like this".

Excellent news!

I couldn't get your link to work, but I have the slide and like it very much, very versatile.

Thanks for that Dave, appreciated.(y)

So a question for any fashion/wedding/portrait photographers within the group. When I brought my D800 I wanted to continue to shoot landscape/cityscape shots but I also wanted to learn more about street photography and portrait work. For me thought this is 100% new and something I want to learn more about. My first main question is more about settings with the D800.

At the moment I will shoot and play with the settings a little for a shot as its normally stationary and affords me the time to "play" but when shooting people or moments this isn't possible. What focus modes do people find works best with this camera? Is it best to leave it in 3D tracking mode or 53 point autofocus? ( cant remember the actual amount of focus points so excuse if thats wrong ) Also would you suggest to use spot metering or matrix metering?

Thanks for any help all.

Spot/Matrix metering. Doesn't matter. As long as you understand how it works and use the exposure compensation accordingly.

For portraits of people I use single point focus with back button focussing.
