Nikon D800......

Wonder why it didn't score particularly well on DXO?

Not sure why, most people I've seen that have had one seem pleased with it, corners aren't brilliant but then what is? With 21mm and 36mp I can crop the corners!

I'd love a Zeiss 50mm Makro-Planar f2, uber quality (and price). I'd have no problems going fully manual mode.
:)

I didn't think I'd enjoy manual focusing through the OVF but I'm finding that the green dot confirmation is pretty accurate on the D800E, it would be better with a D810 though because you get proper 100% image review to check for sharpness/focus.

WEX have one now, £520 for secondhand, not sure if that's a good price? linky > http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-...match=&plid=&gclid=coh7jflzncscfrutgwodqkcfea

I've seen it cheaper, especially now the Milvus is out but a decent price.

I'm torn between picking up a more "normal" prime like a 28/35 or looking for a 50 a 21/35 might work well together... decisions decisions!
I sent back the Tamron 45mm, nice as it is I didn't think it was as good as a Sigma Art 50 (although a much more manageable size) and I didn't think it was that much better than the good ol' Nikon 50 f1.8G...

Just to confirm, using the 810, does the focus box turn green whenever it's locked in focus..? Just curious as my focus box has always stayed red in colour.

Is this normal...?...can anyone shed more light on this.....thanks.

Focus box? Never seen that.... I probably need to read the manual!

As far as I know, yes it needs to be green. Have you got the bleep turned on Pete?

Thought green dot would light up when focus is achieved.

The focus box doesn't change colour and only blinks red once when you either half press the shutter or press back button focus. At the bottom left of the viewfinder display there is a >o< The arrows denote the direction to turn the focus ring and the circle in the middle indicates you are in focus on the selected AF point. (on the D810 these are white, on the 800 they are green)

I find a DK-17M is very useful in helping achieve more in focus shots.

It's annoying that I own 3 zeiss lenses in contax fit and can't adapt them to my D810 as they are superb lenses. (vario sonnar 35-70 f3.4, distagon 35 f1.4 and a planar 85mm f1.4)

Nope, I hate beepy sound things.

Yes, I've noticed a round white symbol bottom left of the 810 viewfinder etc, but the focus box always keeps red in colour.

Perhaps buy a used Canon EOS 5D for the 35-70/3.4 and Planar 85/1.4? It would be a shame not to be using them, particularly the 35-70/3.4 which is so sharp :)

Edit: A Sony a7 would let you use all three with an adapter, but I don't really enjoy manual focusing lenses with an EVF.

One from inside the vaults of the "Matthias Church" in Budapest. One of the most beautiful churches I've ever been in. Not the biggest by a long way but the entire walls are painted and its stunning to look at. A little annoyed I hadn't reset my camera from a previous shot and noticed that the ISO was on auto.Matthies Church by Dave Woodyatt, on Flickr

It shows how good the D800 is in low light. In the photo its all very bright but it was a really overcast day and inside the church was very dark. There was also spot lights that Ive had to work to remove from the photo itself and the uneven light. I really like the photo but it also makes me look at it and wish I had a idea angle and a deeper DOF to capture more detail in the foreground pillar. Still love this camera and the nifty 50

I still have a 20D and a 300D which I can use them with but they're not a patch on the D810. TBH, I can't really see the point in buying another body just to use them.

I looked at it a while back as they also do one for olympus OM too. Always struck me as a bit too severe and the 35-70 is quite an involved conversion. I might do the 85 as my sample isn't worth very much vs the other two. I think I'd be better off selling the other two as the distagon 35 f1.4 is quite uncommon, particularly made in west germany with the box, boxed hood and contax skylight 1A filter.

Chris, did you calibrate yours given the tolerance of the green dot? I did on mine, made a world of difference.

Had a play creating a panorama today for the first time. Ive got what I thought was a fast laptop but wow that killed the thing. Still happy that I finally got around to learning how its done. Plenty of ideas for future images now also.

Shaheed;

Loving the shallow selected Siggy 1.4 aperture --- it gives a lovely feel to the capture, superb work.

Do you own a Siggy 35mm f1.4 also by chance ?

wow awesome Siggy 35mm f1.4 images.....! I've heard great things about both the Siggy 50mm/35mm lenses, are they both the 'Art' series.....?......whatever that means....?

Meant to be cheaper price wise compared to the Nikkor versions....(?) That Sigma 30mm f1.4 Art lens looks great for not big money.

The 35 f1.4 art is great. Well worth it IMHO. M

I haven't used the 50 f2.4 art much but feel like I need to give it a bit of a run out!

Not sure if you know, or it was a general comment?..... but the 30mm ART is for crop cameras and not FF.
