Nikon D800......

Nice and sharp Peter [emoji106]

There's quite a lot of distortion on this lens even at 20mm which is odd ( May not be odd as I've never used the 16-35 [emoji38]). Has in gone through LR? If so have you ticked the lens adjustment box?

Yes, processed in LR5, where do you tick the lens adjustment box....?.....I haven't noticed that tick box.

Edit: Now found the box and noticed it was ticked automatically for the 16-35mm.

Thanx

Good. Sometimes if the auto adjustments don't cut it I go into the manual section of that adjustment panel to sort it [emoji106]

I'm closely looking at the Samyang 135 f2 for the D810, I've owned a few Samyang's in the past and for the money they're decent (manual) glass.

Do any D800 shooters here have experience with the Samyang 135mm f2 please...?...love to hear your views and maybe look at a few images.

Thanks;
Peter

How much better would this be than a 70-200 f2.8 vr2 @ 135mm?

I still think that the D800 is probably the best camera I have ever used (along with a D3, but the D3 more for family type photos). Some great photos in this thread too, allow me to bring the standard down.

That's nice Neil, lovely light, colour, and detail.(y)

I agree, great shot Nguss, amazing colours and depth [emoji106][emoji106]

No experience with the samyang, but as a dedicated user of manual focus lenses, I will say that it takes some practice to get it down pat. The DK-17M eye piece magnifier is particularly useful. I have little trouble focusing and shooting wide open with my 50 f1.2, 80 f1.9, 150 f2.8 and 300 f2.8 but I've had years of practice. On low contrast subjects, it is easier to either bracket focus or use magnified live view.

Some examples off an old nikkor 300mm f2.8 ED AI-s, both shot wide open. A 135 f2 is much easier to focus. (provided the throw is decent)

Lovely night captures (again) Gregg, you could have a photographic exhibition with these images.....!

As much as the Zeiss 21mm f2.8 is a superb piece of quality glass, it's well over twice the cost of the Nikkor 20mm f1.8G.

Unless you can get a used copy that is! Mine was not much more than the 20mm however I bought it a long time before the 20mm came out. I imagine that autofocus of the 20mm would be very handy, which is something the Zeiss lacks. I do think that the Zeiss is an awesome lens though it is very difficult (for me) to use such a wide lens to any real effect, so it is nice to see these ones, which don't look like they are super wide even though of course they are.

Yes it's my favourite lens, I know some don't like the plastic construction of the g's but they're cracking lenses. Oh and the 20 does brilliant light bursts...

I take my hat off to people who can be bothered to manual focus [emoji106][emoji106]

One from last night with the 20mm g..

Two very nice shots Gregg, nice comp' & detail, and both showing a very good dynamic range.(y)

That's one of the attributes I also love about it. Even stopped down just a tiny bit at f2.2 you get nice 14 point bursts. (In addition to the incredible sharpness)

The 20mm f1.8G is also remarkably good at close up work too.

Lovely colours Pete and a great subject. The 50mm is a little cracker isn't it [emoji3]

Thanks Gregg.

Yes, for the money the 50/1.8G is a must have, although I've hardly used it due to night shifts/dreadful weather etc. I think a 135mm lens length is next on the agenda.........or the 85mm.

;)

Nearly joined your club.
Agreed to buy a 2nd hand d800 off a fb group last night. Only to get a message this morning to say it's now been sold elsewhere.

INMO a s/h D800 is one of the best value cameras you can buy at the minute.

I've had the d810 before and it was/is incredible.
Stumbled across a very cheap d800 last night along with a flash. Agreed to deal with the condition of me paying this morning. Woke up with a message saying he'd accepted from someone else. Toe rag.

At 24mm how does the 24mm ART compared to the 24-70f2.8 or 16=35 at 24mm say at F8 and F11?

Steve - I need to make these tests. I haven't got the 24-70 but when it comes to the 16-35 that comes out with the sunshine ~ the 24mm comes out when the sun goes in! Actually, I bought it for Star-scapes and I've yet to try it. Bad I know, but I've been so busy lately and then we had Autumn/Winter. (I have to admit to hating the cold and it's easier to stay indoors in the warm).

Certainly been impressed with it under low-light levels though :)
