According to the maths if appears at f7.999 on the D800 and on the D3200 (higher pixel density) at f6.3.

All a theoretical exercise as far as I am concerned. Not a worry in practical terms.

If you mean the crop factor, Michael, remember that you can set the D800 crop factor to 1.2 or 1.5 (same as D7100) or a 5:4 ratio. You'll still have that focal length "multiplier" effect when you want it. If you assign a button + thumbwheel to the command to change the crop factor you can do just without taking the camera from your eye.
 
Outside John Lewis right now and finger itching to pull the trigger and by the D800, they could have it for me tomorrow but i never spend so much money on s camera before.

Invest in a very few extra quid and buy, David Busch's Nikon D800/D800E book and learn things about the camera that the manual does not come near to.
 
A book!! to work out your camera!!! ... never. Don't even ever open the manual!
 
I dont get this whole book *******s either. The principals are the same if you are taking a photograph on a D700/D800 or any other camera with ASM controls.

Not rocket science but hey if you get something out of it, great
 
The same way you're talking about your cameras features etc in this thread and people read with interest is the same thing the book offers. I think everyone who buys a 2k camera knows how to turn a mode dial and frame a photo but its still interesting to read about things you don't know.

Ah, but you're getting a broader range of tips, suggestions and opinion here. In those books, you're just going on one usually.

But I'm like that with just about everything, I'd rather look up a quick youtube clip if I'm stuck on how to work/fix/get the best out of something, than read a bloated manual.

I agree but the book tells me all of that without trawling through web pages or having to be online. You dont need to read the entire book (PDF) for a piece of info, there is a contents page with hotlinks so you can instantly pick out information.

I used the D800 for an engagement shoot on Sunday. We got absolutely soaked. What's the official line on the weather sealing on the D800?

Oh and I used the pixel battery grip that was previously recommended and was very pleased with it.

I've read his D300 book and it was very good. He tells you what things do, how they work, and gives suggested settings and the reason for making that choice. I found the AF section in particular very good. :thumbs:

I supposed it depends how in depth someone wants to get with all the camera settings. :shrug: Some stick it in Manual, stick it on the highest image quality setting and that's it. :shrug: Others like to delve a bit deeper. :shrug:
 
What quality of files do you use normally , this is one my confusing thing with the setting, i shoot raw normally but this camera as a lots of different raw format.
I use Aperture on a 2012 Mac27inch and bought skandisk ultra fast 40mb/s SD card.:thinking:
 
I use 14bit uncompressed RAW
As I'm not bothered to much about size, why not use it in full. From what ive read though theres no difference except the right speed is slower with losses compressed and compressed due to compressing them.. how true that is im not sure as ive never tested it.

Do the files are that much smaller compressed?

What spec are your machines you are using to edit on?? :)
 
I run a 15" 2011 mac book pro i7 2.5ghz with 8gb ram.

lightroom 4 runs a bit sluggish but did so using my d700 i think after reading reports its a lightroom issue, more so that d800.

Ive still to try NX2..anyone use that?
