Nikon D7xxx owners thread

I bought a lens recently. But it was patently obvious that it was grey because of the price. That alone should start alarm bells ringing.
Trouble with grey market on Amazon is the retailers don't always pass on the grey price difference to the consumer so it's not always obvious from pricing.

Exactly. The price elsewhere (wex etc) was 759, we paid 739. I just thought it was just a good price since its Amazon, which is usually cheaper. I wouldn't have considered a £20 saving enough to have made me think it was an import.

Not enough pictures in this thread :) Woke up super early (for me on a Saturday) with a view of catching a sunrise. However, the weather didn't play ball and all I got was wet, and knackered from walking up to the view point.

Anyway, this is looking over Cooper's Edge in Gloucester, perched on top of WWII pill box (the area below was used to manufacture planes) - I wasn't going to come away with no shots at all!

Is that up by the viewpoint? Never knew there was a pillbox there - must investigate:)

I think you're thinking of Shab Hill? There's a view point up there... If you are, then that's off to the right of where I took this shot from. This is Nut Hill, which is near Upton St. Leonards.

For info, my profile pic was taken from Shab Hill (the one with the view point) :)

Thanks - yeah I know the one up at Nut Hill. I'm not originally from Gloucester so get some of my areas a bit mixed up at times.
Shab Hill - whereabouts is that? I was thinking it was taken from the top of Crickley Hill near the Air Balloon pub

Shab Hill is near the Air Balloon pub too! ;)

Shab Hill is a bit further down the A417 (just after it goes to one lane - turn right and head towards Birdlip, then right again) - you can see Crickley to the right, from Shab Hill. Too many hills!

Aah - I thought that whole area was Crickley hill:) so the viewpoint with the car park is Shab hill - thanks - at least I'll sound like I know where I'm talking about know;)

Its
Any update, Chris?

It's for work so bought through our work account. Any email the seller sends will go to our work email which I can't access over the weekend so will have to see tomorrow. I'm not holding out any hope whatsoever that it'll be UK stock.

Get the eye bleach ready!...:D

Was bored this afternoon so took a drive over to Witcombe Reservoir. The light was pretty poor so figured I'd use it as an excuse to fart about with some of the Nik plugins I'm trialling - I know HDR/heavy PP is like Marmite, so I apologise in advance!

I'm not a fan of marmitr but I'm a fan of these! The b&w ones work much better than colour though imo.

Got both the 16-85 and 70-300 now (from MPB), managed to use the 16-85 last week indoors as it's not really conducive to photography outside recently :P

Good detail, handles well and is pretty small, perfect little general purpose lens. Yet to use the 70-300, hopefully this weekend!

got my Nikon grip through yesterday, it took under a week from when I registered for the promotion, feels well balanced

I've begun to learn what all the new menus do, it's a HUGE upgrade from my D90. I still need to figure out how to ensure I have control over the 'centre weighting' and read the manual. This was just walking about with the stock 18-140mm:

I was also pretty surprised how clear this snap, fully zoomed in, (with 18-140mm again) came out:

OK so I got my D7200 and took some photos in RAW. Try to open them in Nikon's View NX2 and whenever I try to edit/export anything, I get "unsupported file type". I have the latest version which I would assume supports the camera...anybody else had any issues?

*edit* realised View NX2 has been discontinued and replaced with Capture NX-D.

Just got mine under a week and i applied by post, not bad going.

Oh! Thanks I didn't know abut that! I tried using NX-D and found it really slow compared to View NX2. Started to use Lightroom instead but not getting on with it yet so will try NX-i out.

I really like that second one. Might inspire me to get up early on a weekend.

Might :D

Do you mean Playback Menu > Playback display options> top tick box?

Just trying to get things straight, are you trying to move the focus point when you're shooting, or see where the focus was on playback?

what I am after doing is to put the focus area viewed through viewfinder, on the screen on back of camera so I have both,
being able to alter focus without putting camera to the eye, altering it on screen

You mean in live view? I don't think the live view uses the same AF, the main 51 point module can only be used with the viewfinder.

I would imagine he means he wants to see which focus points are in use on the back of the camera. As in they show up when you press the 'info' button along with all the other stuff shown there.

It does tell you which mode you're on and how many focus points are in use but doesn't visually show them to you, if that's what you're after, Walter. I'm not sure you can do that but tbh I haven't tried to find that before as I always do it in the viewfinder.

yes that is what I want to do, I cant seem to find out anywhere if it can be done, I found it so useful on my 5200,

The top LCD is very limited in what it shows you in comparison to the older D7100 and D7000 but I find the other functions it has more than make up for it.
Agree though that it would be good not to have to look through the viewfinder to check AF selection point.

Just to clear it up just in case it can be done, it's not the top LCD, it's the back screen where I want to put focus points.

It's not - tried all menus and all buttons and Google. Even thought about reading the manual but couldn't bring myself to go that far;)

Having said that, you ARE shown the type of focus mode you have and the number of points being used. But just not where the point is (if using a single point for example). I guess you know that already though.

Speaking of the top LCD, I think it's great, less info there yes but it's clear and easy to read. Personally I think it's an improvement.

Oh yeah - don't get me wrong - I much prefer the D7200 top screen - much less confusing as I always found the 7000/7100 screens too cluttered - less is definitely more in this case :)
